Talk about how you get sub contractors or good labor. I'm getting my business started in cali and man finding good labor has been the biggest issue.

Ok.... so you quoted 20 a sq ft ... My question is : if I want to charge the same price for an area with NO CONCRETE just rocks existing on ground currently. What is the difference in how you quote the job? I'm just confused because it seems with the amount of work neccessary to lay the pavers + dirt + cost of materials + demo/ removal of existing surface area debris +profit. How you can make any money. @dirtmonkey said he charges separately for dirt install - demo- and then $x per sqft. Of paver install. Someone help me.. (I do landscaping and want to broaden my reach to have work in the winter)

How did you break up that concrete driveway? A sledgehammer and then the combo of the little ditch witch and the skid steer? Or did you need a jackhammer attachment? Just curious.
@abseedeaf5 жыл бұрын
It’s not that easy. And pricing by the square foot rarely captures you actual cost of goods sold. I realize that every company structures their budget and finances differently. Here’s my perspective using regional data (Ontario, Canada) and my experience... - The driveway 968 sq ft - An average unit paver price here is $3.75 per square foot = $3,630.00 - Granular A base @ 12” - 36 cu yds + delivery = $2,700.00 - a setting bed, whatever you use (we use concrete sand) - 3 yds = $150.00 - polymeric sand, edge restraints, misc material - $500.00 - we charge out labour at $75/hr with a 3 person crew which captures the cost of our vehicles, labour costs, insurance, and it factors in profit. Say this job takes 4 days and their working 11 hour days (we charge 11 hours because it captures morning down time and end of day unloading) = $9,900.00 - you charge for your equipment, rented or owed. Let’s say a mini ex and a skid steer are on site. = $2,400.00 - adding a %30 markup to your material cost to cover overhead costs = $3000.00 I’m at $22,280.00. I have made assumptions and I haven’t factored in all the costs. If I really sat down with proper takeoffs I would likely determine that this job would be closer to $25k So, I’m not knocking the business acumen here. My suggestion is that square foot pricing doesn’t accurately cover your costs. It doesn’t plan for consistent profit and growth. And it has the potential to backfire resulting in net losses. Price jobs based on accurate cost of goods, overhead, and profit.
