I knew my great grandmother. She was, as an infant, evacuated from Atlanta ahead of Sherman's troops by horse and buggy. I told my students when I was still teaching you know me, I knew her. THAT is how close you are to the Civil War. I know history sometimes seems long ago and far away. But it isn't. My grandfather was one of the first people ever recorded on an actual record, Columbia records, in the 1920s. My mother saw the Wizard of Oz in theaters. From the balcony, her maid was black and was the person who took her. She was only allowed in the balcony in the theater. My father was of the age to serve in the Korean War but was 4F due to having had polio. He was in an iron lung for weeks. I remember the assassination of JFK, I was a young kid in school, how sad all of the adults were. And being out camping when the first men landed on the moon. I was surprised someone HAD a TV out there I did not know TVs that small existed. I worked at the hospital at the Presidio of San Francisco that identified AIDS, I worked in the lab there but not in that department. My son was born in that hospital. Some of the buildings there were turned over to Gorbachev after Presidio was closed and he left office in Russia back then known as USSR. Thank you for helping to put history and life in perspective. It is easy to think that today's problems cannot be solved. I am sure people of the past thought that many times before us. God is in control and has a plan. Shalom.

My Great-Great Grandfather served in the 39th Ohio Infantry , Company E. He fought in the West. He was mustered out at Chattanooga so it was shortly before Atlanta. My Great Grandmother was born in 1869, so if he had not survived the Civil War, I would not be here.

All three of my children (now grown with children of their own) started out with a strong dislike of history. But I got each one of them to view it in a different light. I merely pointed out how they love stories, be it a book I would read to them or a movie. Each one of them agreed at their own appointed time of having this talk with me. Once I got them to realize their love of stories, I merely pointed out that was exactly what history was - stories. The only difference was that history stories really happened, and instead of fictional characters the people in the stories of history were real people. After this talk, each one of my children loved history and received high marks. :-)

The "Oval Office" Biden uses is different from the real Oval Office, but it is exactly like a movie set in California. The real Oval Office does not have a parking lot right outside the window, you can see a truck parked just outside the window in Biden's photo-op photos. The ambulance has been standard since the Reagan Assassination. The Paddy Wagon holds 'supplies' for the Secret Service. Some of the other vehicles with funky antennas are WH communications agency vehicles to talk to the military and/or jamming vehicles to send out electronic signals (think anti-IED device).

Why did none of those vehicles in the motorcade have the presidential flag or American flag on it? 26 vehicles total, 8 were motorcycles with side cars. 1 white police suv, 1 black police suv, 1 black police suv, 1 black police suv on white line, 1 black suv police light on top front, 1 police suv with large silver plate on top, 1 black suv police lights in grill, 1 black suv lights in grill, 1 black suv police lights on white line, 1 black truck with black box on back on white line, 1 black suv police lights inside top left windshield, 1 black van, 1 black van white line, 1 black van, 1 white and red ambulance, 1 suv/van with black ball thing on top, 1 white suv police car and 1 black suv police car bringing up the rear. The ladies from DC did not think we would get so far nor do very well so they came out to see the first battle of the War between the States thinking it would also be the last and over quickly. They brought picnics. They had to flee leaving their fancy picnic stuff behind because the battle did not go as planned.

Not sure. I know they do send out a radio message on the police and maybe fire channels declaring a "road runner" which means a motorcade so maybe they route around it, but I'm sure some people get stuck in these things. They usually last about 10 minutes at most.
