Now every time I make a round-about, I have my checklist : - Priority on round-about - Pick your lane for everyone - You go threw if you're on the round-about, but not if coming in - Lane arrow are only used for one direction, never more The lane arrow thing is really important. My traffic always hovers around 80% too ... I only use Biffas tricks where traffic might get a bit heavy. But if you are aware that traffic, in this game, is always going to be a problem, then you can employ the ounce-of-prevention method, and plan/layout your roads accordingly, so that traffic issues, won't be issues. The two most helpful tips I've learned, are ... manage your lanes, either with connectors or arrows, and always have many, many ways in and out of an area.

The other thing you really lose out on is the "no despawning". Not being able to turn despawning off artificially makes you think your doing well at 70-80% traffic but half your cars are disappearing and it leads to people complaining about not enough workers and the like.

@@thelastcommander8765 Pretty much as even if you don't produce anything your city would import them. But if the trucks are tied up and despawn it just gives up after a while. Despawn is also super fast, I have seen cars not caught up in any noticeable traffic despawn just cause they hit a traffic light and this is at a fairly small city of about 20k. I don't know what the limits are but they seem insanely low to start with and in vanilla the only real solution seems to be public transit and walking paths as the pedestrian cap seems to be way higher than cars.

I never had issues with despawning until industries. It seems paradox’s fix for the performance issues was to make cars just...disappear. No mod cities just arent possible anymore. Idfk how i made a 250,000 pop vanilla city with 80+% traffic with no mods.

When you have a roundabout and i.e. a highway ends right on there, you have a separate in and out road (unlike the normal city roads). You can downgrade the little bit of road in between to create an automatic example of lane mathematics. So it's not completely useless to do it. Though the way it's been done by the creator with his roundabouts was appalling indeed

tip for industries - better use of local storage (warehouses, etc) dramatically reduces the traffic needing to leave the area. Proper use of storage will result in very little traffic in industry areas.

7:33 yeah, there was plenty of lane mathematics you've done where they were already there although done a little wonky :D I think it helped since you've added more lanes rather then less which made more sense since it was busy. 15:30 and 18:03 there were some asymmetrical roads you didn't notice when upgrading. should take more time counting the lanes before upgrading them. I guess its hard to see them clearly when there's this much traffic. for a moment I felt like watching the "Troll Roundabounds" from the other one :D I started to use a lot of asymmetrical roads recently I think it might be thanks to your vids. I was so glad you added that extra junction on the highway for the industrial area - I was think about it as well hell of a job fixing this one! that was so chock-a-blockc, cheers!

Biffa, you gotta start adding highway ramps on and off these cities (earlier and more often, I know you do it sometimes, I know you did it this video). Most of the cities that get sent to you to get fixed only have one entrance and one exit to and from a bunch of their districts. The main reason why people's cities get gridlocked is NOT because of lack of lane mathematics, or badly set up roundabouts, it's because of failure to plan and bottlenecks.

Thank you Biffa for this mesmerizing demonstration of your traffic sorting skills!!! But I would love to see you come up with an another user scenario for your videos. I'll explain : It seems to me that you always first focus on the main subject of your videos : traffic flow. What if, for another playlist, you tried to sort traffic without using traffic mods but as a last resort. That would push you to focus first on : 1) Area distribution (where's the industry, where are residential areas, is it properly connected to outside coming trains and traffic?) 2) Does it have public transportation networks, and can it be optimized ? 3) What's the goal ? > increase population from .. to ..? Decrease traffic at the max? Cashflow of the city at +100k$? I feel like you could shine with a little bit of diversification with your "Fix your city" format. Maybe something between Teaville format (the way you design and plan everything) and this current one (fixing as efficiently as possible) would be a blast! Cheers, wish you lots of sips of tee from Paris ;)

The roundabouts with lane mathematics work superb if you have multiple exits and entrances wich are used heavily. The big benefit of doing this is that the inner lanes are used more so there can get more cars through and even when the inner lane is congested there can get cars in the outer lanes switching to the inner lanes slowly so the backed up traffic gets spread more evenly. You have to finetune them, tho. Had one in an Industries-DlC- Farming region because otherwise it wouldn't had been working anymore and it would have come to an complete standstill. But after being able to purchase land and make an second connection to it it was unnecassary. So it's really great for limited space.

16:50 The moment I realized that the new police headquarters of my town was built on a highway side connection from downtown, which was then converted to two-ways, but the reverse direction is chained off for police vehicles usage only to let them go downtown without hitting the old, inefficient roundabout with traffic lights at every single junction connecting to the highway. That roundabout is just so weird though now that I think about it (great thing they thought of keeping police traffic out of it except for actual highway use). It's got 2 stages, a 2-way primary highway with very few on ramps that bypasses most connections and the bottom part is legally 1-lane each direction only, but it's so wide at many spots it goes up to 3 lanes (lane stripes are a joke in my town) and the primary highway just connects back to have 2 lanes on either end, which is fine since traffic thins out by then. There's a U-turn before the roundabout in one direction, which helps out a lot since it lessens the backlog at the roundabout. 3 lanes (or sometimes 4) on one side of the roundabout, but 2 on the other side. Oh and the intercity bus stop / main city bus depot is also connecting directly to the roundabout. What's even weirder is how rare you get crashes or gridlocks at that roundabout. And there's another one constructed the same was as this one connecting to the center of the downtown.

These videos have really gotten me interested in this game (and traffic management, your lane mathematics are haunting my mind while moving in traffic). Anyone that have the game, about how hard is it on your computer? Seeing the map i used to get my first 100k population city have 4% traffic makes me proud that with almost no tricks used like Biffa, I'm able to keep it around 75% on console lmao

First thing I noticed is the lack of road options. Road hierarchy can cause traffic problems when everyone is limited to using the same road.

Mate I'd be a much longer process, but on the highways you've still got some incorrect lane mathematics. it may look a bit weird sometimes having two lanes go of and one going on, but it will help even more by making sure you never have 4 lanes going down to 3 which is still not ideal of course. I hope you can see how you could have avoided the 2 + 2 into 3 with the intersection at 5:20, otherwise still great videos I've learned a lot! and it's fun to see how you fix the cities that, to the untrained eye, follow your exact rules. Keep it up with the awesome fixes!
