As a WVU fan just let me say this. Venables has had 2 straight 6-7 seasons. Another mediocre season and Venables will be gone. Could be simple job security. He can have a long career at WVU and also be well paid. Zac will have complete autonomy at WVU to run the defense. He did not have that at OU and the possibility looming over he might only get one more year there if Venables gets fired I believe was a contributing factor. He has ties with RichRod as well. WVU has the 15th winningest program all time to have not won a Natty. WVU is pulling all the stops out to get back where they were in 2007.
@pnut255219 күн бұрын
It may have something to do with Coach V getting all the credit at OU since he is the HC... Maybe he felt that no matter how good his defense was, it would always be the head coach that got the credit, so he goes somewhere for better money and total control of the defense... 🤔

@EL.JEFE123119 күн бұрын
John, you're off-base, really... WV didn't poach him. Rich Rod did, just like BV did to him a year ago at Jacksonville State. He will most likely be a great DC at some point, but the way the information is coming out now, he couldn't run his own defense, which is 3-5-3 BV runs a 4-man front most of the time, and let's be honest, BV is really running that DEF. Alley's DEF will be great to run in the B12 as a standalone but not in the SEC.
@matthewbeaver502619 күн бұрын

@@EL.JEFE1231 yea I played as the spur or bandit in a 3-3-5 in high school. It was a fun defense to run. Years ago big 12 I though 5 db's was a good call. Now a days. 3 dbs. With 2 hybrid almost big enough to be linebacker quick enough to be safety types in those hybrid positions (what I know as spur and bandit) should beable to compete in today's b12. With that said we still must have a 4 man front package. Not necessarily diff players. But a guy that could roll up and play the line w/o the need for substitution if it's a whole separate package. They'll get stuck on the field in bad situations when the O doesn't sub.
