I offered to pull apart BARRA 6 cylinder engines from New Zealand to show people what they were getting. Sadly I know no one in the states into cars and so my little side hustle idea from 10 years ago has never gone ahead but other people and companies throwing their shit twenty year old wrecker engines into the states

My 964 was the first LS 964 / 993 or newer 911. Started building it in 2006, got it running 2009. Scott at Renegade used my car for measurements for the newer style motor mounts. I did 170 mph in that car (taller rear tire than stock + raised limiter from 6850 rpm to 7100 rpm, 275/40/17 rear tire) many times. Big cam / ported 243 heads...2640 lbs, the car was seriously quick.

7:37 "Air does not cool your engine down... does a really bad job of transferring heat" Love it. First you stuff a good ol mericuh V8 where the IMS-made of glass M96 used to live and annoy all the water cooled Porsche guys, then you say that about air to annoy all the pre-996 ones (nevermind that they're really air/oil cooled). Can't wait to see this done. Also hope my 5.0L MGB rips as much as yours did once it's done in a few weeks.

Gotta finish watching this after some sleep, but I just can't see all of that LS fitting... I'll believe it when I see it. I owned a 911 way back, don't know if I want that much weight & power hangin' off the trans axle. Had enough problems keeping the front end down on mine. I kept a pair of log truck snow chsins, a 30 ft tow chain packed as far into every crevice of the nose, AND a 45# tool box full of tools in '77 & it'd still get squirrelly when it got down to a ¼ tank! Had to keep it down to 110. A mid engine model Porsche w/ an LS would be a delight... ful beast! 'night...

You might consider a set of Darton or similar dry sleeves in the 5.3. Naturally Aspirated it can go out to 4.185” but with a 4.165” bore with a 3.9 “ stroke and 6.2” rod from Molnar that takes it out to 425 ci with a overbore left and a good rod to stroke. It should put out over 600 hp.

Power Kraut fits like a glove. 😝. Back in the late 90's, on the streets of Austin, Tx, prowled a red 911 with a Donovan-aluminum-blocked 400ci SBC. I streetraced that guy, with my 11-sec 3rd gen Camaro, with a 422ci SBC, and we were side by side. That Porsche picked up the right-front tire when it hooked! I expect Power Kraut will do the same. The torque's twisting the frame in the opposite direction than it would in the forward-faced configuration.

And even if you have safety loops to the stock frame rails, I'm not sure if that's enough to contain significant shrapnel. And the stock frame isn't THAT tough either. Please consider my feedback here. Love your content as a longtime fan, and I just want to make sure you guys are safe (and we all keep getting entertained!).

Cut off the excess from the bottom, allows you to grind flat and get in places easy but still guards your fingers if the disk blows up.

Have you looked at an LS6 intake manifold, it’s the best flowing cathedral port manifold GM made and is pretty compact, not sure how it compares to the MSD unit though.

This project is so exciting. Literally has me looking aroud for 911s to do this with. Gives me an affordable(ish) way to get into my teenaged dream car. Anyone in the PNW see a good one LMK.

Hi Tony, with all of this work, why not make absolutly sure it has 400 hp just change the cam while its out and easy. or add some Nitrous..... too much work to settle for only 300 hp. love the project so far and cant wait to buy a PowerKrout shirt.

Ya, I went through the comments to see. I've heard head cams are cheap and 400 is easy. How would Trans hold up?

Hey Try the Old School way. To get water threw the Thermostat. Drill a 1/8" Hole at 9 o'clock and one at 3 o'clock. On Thermostat. YOU NEVER HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE Thermostat to Open. Have Done it for 40 years.

Yeah, I do that on conventional engines, the LS thermostat has this weird spring thing and it's a bit different but can probably do the same maneuver. Waiting to fill it is my least favorite always.

I'm a Porsche guy, did some SCCA at Watkins Glenn back in the day and used to bolt 912 & 914 engines into VW's, now it's all LS swaps. I've been very lucky with junkyard 5.3's, swapped them into everything from a '52 Chevy Deluxe and a slew of Mustangs to a 1994 Mazda Miata but this is wild. I've heard of the swap, never seen one. At least you don't have to swap a rear end, can't wait to see what you do for exhaust and cooling, and hear it run. Current projects are a chopped '68 C10, 5.3 w/700r4 and a '88 S10 with a 4.8 running off a carb and a T5. Big sleeper. Good luck and thanks for the video. Hope that Porsche trans last's longer than I think that T5 will.

Gen 3 iron block 4.8 had flat top pistons, 5.3 were dished. They share a block but have different crank and con rod lengths.
