Big and Stompy Hammer Runewords in Diablo 2 Resurrected

Diablo 2 does one of the most confusing things with runewords, among other things, that it differentiates between Hammers, Maces, and Clubs - as they are different things. So Today, we go over what items are hammers, as well as what runewords fit into them.

Monster flee is not an issue in bows and crossbows, but i sure as hell don´t want it in a melee weapon. I wonder, have they never though of making an awesome gold find rune word with ElDoRalDo? Knockback is generally good on bows/crossbows, it helps the shooter to keep enemies off one´s throat.

@@Alzorath The +14 Replenish Life already makes it a good choice for pretty much any character. And you reduced the annoyance of the Monster Flee be giving it a 50% chance to proc. Issue would probably be to find a 4 socket item early, so you HAVE to use the shared stash to get it to a lower level character. Personally i´m just glad you understood the play on words i was going for, the L of Ral made this tricky, there is no Ra as far as i know the Runes.

funnily enough, that replenish life is from the Dol runes :) (as is the 50% flee) - the breakouts on runewords are oddly enough due to the runes providing different buffs on different pieces of equipment (since you have base mods, but the runes still provide their natural bonuses)

@@Alzorath I´m still new to the whole rune word thing, since those weren´t in the game back when i played. And it is hard to gauge which are useful for my character at which point. My Holy Firedin is lvl38 now and still runs around in Stealth, mostly because i haven´t gotten higher runes for better armor words, and i really want to give him a Lore head gear but have not yet found something proper as of now.

I made a Fury Cryptic Sword on Single Player in 2019, it was pretty awesome tbh

yea, it's one of those runewords that got forgotten in time because it was no longer "best in slot" - it's still really nice though.

Can you make a list for best areas to farm? Is the pit the best place in the game?

The best place really depends on what build/class you're running, whether you're in single-player or multi-player - and also what you're hunting for... looking for SoJ? Nightmare Andariel or late Nightmare Super Uniques, will be better than anything in hell - but if you're looking for high runes? you need a lot of drops from level 81+ enemies - though I could put together a small series on it to kind of address the major areas.

I have a suggestion for a Runeword Video: The best Endgame / Endgame-viable Low Budget Runewords that your char (not merc) can wear. Eg Obedience comes to my mind.

I found a 4 socket warhammer (normal) and was wondering what to put in it. Now it looks like I'll be putting gems/jewels in it if anything.

What about BotD in an ethereal ogre axe? Is it worse than on a thunder maul?

it works for some builds, but it's not super popular because there's usually better polearm options.

A Beast Thundermaul is very useable on a Werewolf Druid. A Zod'd Eth Ribcracker or Tomb Reaver will be better but in SSF you're much, much more likely to find a Ber than either of these base and a Zod rune lol.

I usually find a Tomb Reaver (or one of the other similar options) long before I find a ber unfortunately...

@@Alzorath I'm not sure a non-eth tomb reaver is better tbh. Never did the maths tho. Finding a Ber is hard but cubing up to it is doable. Specially if you play on higher player settings for SSF.

Come to think of it Tomb Reaver is very likely to be on my Holy Grail list. Don't remember ever finding one myself despite the fact the build that makes the best use of it is in my top 3 favorites.

You could get down to around 6-8 frames in LOD, you might be able to get a little lower in D2R, because they changed the calculation as werewolf making weapon ias and weapon base speed less important. However, as another character, things become even more difficult. You couldn't use fury or zeal, but with feral rage you might get about 8 frames as a werewolf barbarian.

Truth is Mauls are a very weak weapon in the game because the damage doesn't not compensate for the shield. A Maul should be 3 times more powerful than the single handed weapon you have otherwise it isn't worth using.
