Geoff had to borrow his dad's tools again like in Sixteen Tons. Said we keep sending him back to the mines. I remember the Jimmy Dean show with him singing this song and the dog Rowlf was so funny. Love these old songs that Geoff breathes new life into.

I love it. Of course, I grew up with Jimmy Dean singing it many decades ago. Geoff definitely did it justice.

I'd never heard of this song before, maybe it just wasn't as popular in the UK, but boy do I love Geoffs version. I went back to listen to the original, mostly because I like to see how Geoff has changed things to suit his own voice and abilities and I have to say I prefer Geoffs arrangement. However I love that he always pays respect to the original. Great reaction, thank you guys! 🙂👍

Bit late so you might not see this but as for recommendations, you should check out the hardcore Mozart "Der Holle Rache" as sung by Diana Damrau, from the opera The Magic Flute. (The best version is about five minutes long, recorded live at the Royal Opera House in London, and she's wearing a black dress and what looks like a slinkie on her head.) That woman can do some jaw dropping vocal gymnastics.

Geoff did a great job here, as usual! If you would like to try another mining song of a different "flavor", please react to an old song (1970) by a group called The Buoys entitled "Timothy". That song troubled me for years. Still does!

I would say if you want to hear more of Geoff's higher register listen to High and Dry.
