The BB channel has a lot of really talented wordsmiths commenting here, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading today's! You gals rock! I'm trying to catch up on the videos, so I'm late posting my comment. Today's video was a hoot! I've watched quite a few eagle couples over the past 4+ yrs, but I've never heard this much vocalizing before. And, there was no intruder, which is usually when they're the loudest. Jackie and Shadow were really into it, and Shadow was really giving his two-cents worth, too! I agree with one comment that Jackie was telling Shadow to get up, but he was saying 'no, no, no!' Haha, so funny! Funny until Jackie was looming over Shadow with her feathers all puffed out. She looked very menacing, so he did the smart thing and got out of there! I'm with you on wishing I could speak eagle-ese, Lady Hawk! Thanks for a delightful video. 🙋‍♀️🌹💜 (btw the opening screen with recap on it says 1.29.20, in case you want to edit that to the 20th).

This was just one happy moment for these 2! Just look at the way they stared at their eggy’s! And just wait they hatch. Then Jackie scared us for a moment I thought she saw Shadow with a fish and was just hungry. These 2 luv each so much! This vid will be in my heart forever! Thank you so much Lady Hawk. What a wonderful dialogue between the couple!!! I would also like to know what them are talking to each other about. But I suspect that them are arguing about each other's responsibility for incubating the eggs. Any resemblance to real life is no coincidence! But even without understanding anything, I loved Jackie and Shadow's dialogical relationship. Wonderful video. ❤

Fascinating! Listening and watching them was/is such a treat! Such a gift! I’m worrying about how small this nest bowl is compared to SWFL nest; should I be? I’m new to this channel and just watching and learning... I’d truly appreciate if you folks out there who are more experienced at knowing about these sorts of things, if you’d most kindly chime in with some knowledge about this nest and whether it’s size snd construction is up to the challenge of keeping 2 active eaglets safe? I just happened to spot E14 while scrolling down YT one day a couple of weeks ago, and it was love at first sight, and now I’m here, and witness this! They just draw one in, don’t they? That’s why we all watch them! Admiration and love! How majestic! Simply breathtaking to watch! I almost feel as though I’m soaring with them! Thank you, Madame Lady Hawk!

Welcome Carolyn, I am no expert, just a huge fan of Lady Hawk & have watched these 2 majestic eagles since December 2018. Last year's nest, when Simba & Cookie were hatched, is this same nest which did have a bit more stuffing. I also follow the SWFL nest & you are correct, that bowl is larger with much more stuffing. Jackie & Shadow did add some 300+ sticks to the nest this Winter but, so far very little stuffing. It's a totally different climate, elevation & atmosphere than the SWFL nest. Much harsher conditions, but it's a beautiful setting at Big Bear lake in the San Bernardino mountains. Before the hatchings, I feel more stuffing will gradually be added. Maybe others with more knowledge can add their input.

Hello Carolyn and welcome to this BB nest! Harriet and M15's nest is quite large! The BB nest in May 2019 was 5' X 4' X 3' deep. But it is much larger now with Shadow and Jackie adding over 300 + sticks since September 2019. I would guess they added about a foot in height and width! This nest was built in 2013 by another eagle couple named Ricky and Lucy. They left the nesting area in 2016 and Jackie and her mate Mr BB came in 2017 but Jackie was too young to lay eggs. In 2018 Jackie had two eggs with Mr BB - Stormy and Triple B. Triple B (Big Bear Baby) passed away in the Spring due to Hypothermia. Stormy fledged successfully! In 2019 Jackie had a new mate Shadow who was a 4 year sub adult and supplanted Mr BB. Jackie had two eggs hatch - Simba and Cookie. Cookie passed away from hypothermia on 5/29/19 - Simba fledged. The climate here in Big Bear is most challenging for the young chicks. We are hoping that the weather will be better this year and to see two eaglets fledge!
