GE Lady Hawk! I love when she finally got a little frustrated around the 15min mark that he just wouldn't let her allopreen him so Jackie just started vocals and more nipping lol. This is a perfect example of a Bald Eagles independence, even a trusted mate is not allowed to preen another in most cases. There are some classic moments here! Hilarious beginning and end scaps too. Hello Lady Hawk, thank you for making these videos I always enjoy watching all of them, but had a question I also watch the South West Florida Nest too and noticed that this pair stays close together at their nest at Big Bear even after Zimba Fledged do you think they will be laying eggs soon this season? They seem to be making nesterations etc ....

Hi ac dc you are welcome!! The nesting season starts in mid December here in Big Bear and runs though March. Previous eagle pair laid here on Dec 17th - Jackie laid her eggs on Jan 3rd (2018) and March 6th (2019). Ovulation of the female eagles is determined by the day's length per Dr Sharpe and the eagles have no control over it. Seeing the extent of nestorations by Jackie and Shadow plus the pre-mating vocals we are starting to hear tells me that she will most likely lay in January again this season!

Hello Mietti this nipping and beaking activity is classic courtship behavior for the eagles. She does not want him out of the nest - this is their form of communication while they engage in nestorations!
