Big Bear Eagles ~ Shadow Brings In Another Huge Catfish ~ Closeups Of Mom Feeding The Kids 4.29.19

Shadow arrives early in the morning with another huge catfish! Jackie had just left for a break as Shadow arrived with his fish. He looks around to decide what to do and then leaves it and returns to brood Simba and Cookie. Later, Jackie is brooding and she gets up to feed the kids and we have an excellent zoom! She fees both Simba & Cookie. It is cold today in BB - and the kids were shivering. They are just starting to get their thermal down feathers in which will help in regulating their temperatures. The chicks are two weeks old now (Cooke just turned 2 weeks old today)! Thank you for watching!

Their fishing prowess never ceases to amaze me. And the SIZE of the fish they catch is nuts! And that doesn't even count the other fowl they catch. Wouldn't surprise me to one day see Shadow bring home a small jogger.

Shadow is just nailing it at fatherhood. What impressed me as much as the size of that delicious looking catfish (catfish acadiana at Copelands happens to be one of my fav dishes) was how Shadow was barely winded after bringing it in. Now we known that fish is heavy so the fact he wasn't very winded shows how in shape he is and why he's such an awesome hunter. Beautiful feeding Jackie performs on zoom! Loved the opening scap with Jackie feeding and end scap with Shadows delivery, thanks LH!💜

Hey Tocha! I remember watching live one day, Shadow brought food to their nest and while Jackie was preparing it for Simba and Cookie the eaglets started bonking, Shadow is standing near Jackie and watching his babies and he gently walks over to them and stops the bonking!! it was a wonderful moment, I remember that they just sat back and looked at Shadow, I live in Australia and I was thrilled I was watching live at the right time to see this, I watched this cam through IWS when IWS was still showing the live cam and I remember reading the chat and everyone watching loved that Shadow stopped their bonking!! I hope with all of my heart that season 2022 is kinder to Jackie and Shadow and they have a healthy clutch of eggs and Eaglets!! I love them so much!! They are amazing Eagles and so beautiful!!

Nope, they've routinely been left alone this past week. One stint I noticed 2 or 3 days ago was a full 30 minutes.

Cookie did not survive. Died of exposure to the cold temperatures. Cookie’s remains are part of the nest. Simba grew up to be a big eagle and flew off, like eagles do. As far as I’ve read, there hasn’t been any recent sightings of Simba. Fly high, Cookie. Watch over your sibling Simba.

@@ds_the_rn ....thank you for the info Diane. All of us can only hope that Jackie and Shadow will be more successful next year during mating season. At the moment I'm following the live feed out of Redding CA with Liberty and Guardian. All 3 of their eggs hatched and it seems all the baby chicks are being fed well. But as they get older who knows. These are wonderful birds.
