When Simba laid down in the nest at Jackie's feet and screamed, it reminded me of a toddler throwing themself on the floor and having a temper tantrum! But who can resist little Simba, hissy fits and all? I'm cherishing every moment with him before he takes off on his life's adventure!

We "hoomans" must remember that Simba is only slightly over 3 months old & can't be rushed to grow. He's not "a brat," or "spoiled," or "demanding." He's still a baby who CANNOT hunt for himself yet and who will depend on his parents to help with feedings well into the first year of life (if he is to make it out there). He will eventually learn how to take care of himself by watching and copying his parents.

Simba is disappointed that Mom didn't bring him a fish. He squees to let her know. He doesn't have a big crop, so I'm guessing he is hungry. Now that he is flying about, he needs to eat more now. He can't fish for himself, so he begs Mom to get him a fish. I kinda feel sorry for him, as he is dependent on Mom & Dad to eat. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day Simba.

Ok , first thing, great job on the landing Simba but the most important thing is that we all love you but you need to cut mom some slack with the attitude. . Everything is not as crucial as you let on sometimes. . Just relax and enjoy the view and your time with your precious, loving mother. . You don't have to have a fresh meal waiting for you every time you fly into the house. .

I’ve noticed that eaglets are submissive (head down) around the moms and will almost alway attack dad. I’ve observed that after watching many nests. Definitely a matriarchal society! It’s like he says Mom, I’m starving to death! Have pity on me, poor me!! Jackie always has that ‘fierce’ look about her…..Love this family so much!

Eaglets are NOT able to catch fish until they are at least a year old and he has to learn to hunt..that is why he is relying on his parents now..is that right Lady Hawk?!

Hello Rowland Johnson - perhaps you are commenting tongue in cheek about Simba catching his own fish? But if not, eaglets are unskilled in hunting and fishing for the almost the first year after they go out on their own. They survive by eating carrion and also on stealing food from other sources. They learn to hunt through trial and error and by observing other eagles sub adults and juvies. Simba will continue to be fed by Jackie and Shadow until he leaves the Big Bear area. The 1st year of life is the most difficult for the eaglets and over 50% do not survive - starvation being one of the main causes of death. So we want Simba to learn and have as many lessons and skills as he can have before he leaves!

@@bettechic5052 Yes that is correct! In the next few weeks, Simba will be watching Shadow and Jackie fishing at the lake and will be imprinting that behavior. He may find some prey or fish along the shores himself and grab it and eat!
