Great videos! We're new to fishing and need your advice. Going to Big Bear early September. Where's the best place to fish for trout and what type of rig should I use. Thanks!
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Comfort Kitchen TV the lake changes from year to year check out my video on fishing big bear lake where I do a commentary on how and where to fish through the year on big bear. September still good by the dam.
@xlucim11 жыл бұрын
I went yesterday. I could see schools swimming and congregating by the dam, on the south side. All are nice sized. I got there around 9 AM and left about 1 pm, they really weren't biting, I really think they are trying to spawn. One nibble on the bobber and I landed a nice 2-lber on a mini-jig. A very nice healthy fish with surprisingly big teeth for a rainbow.

How do you cast 25 feet of line if you have the bobber stop set at 25 feet? Can the stopper be reeled up into the rod?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures6 жыл бұрын
Chris Hudgins yes that's why you use bobber stops so you can reel them into your reel.

I'll be in big bear this weekend.its gonna be hotter around 87-90. I'm planning on going to the Dam. Would u recommend using rig to fish deep like an egg sinker rig in your other video or stay with something like this skip bobber for shallow?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Usually in the summer they suspend around 20 to 30 feet deep. So the slip float with 25 feet of line out usually works. You can also try fishing the bottom like other videos.

How long is the leader is this good for winter fishing for trout if not can you tell me what is best?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures6 жыл бұрын
Sure this works in the winter too. The leader is only about 12 inches from the swivel to the hook. From the hook to the float is the distance you experiment with. Usually anywhere from 8 to 15 feet deep works in the winter.

@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures hi I'm sorry but I had a couple of more question how heavy should my egg sinker be? Also I may not have or be able to get the slip bobber you showed in the video but the one I have is one where you fill it up with water and it's clear is that fine? If not if I have to make some changes what would they be?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures6 жыл бұрын
The size of the sinker depends on the float size. You want it to stand the float up, but not sink it. I'm not really sure about the float you are using if it will work as a slip float or not. You can give it a try but sounds more like a bubble castable float that you put water in to be able to cast light lures further.

Thanks for the information. I am planning on heading up to Big Bear tomorrow (6/8/13). Curious if you have been there recently. I have never been to this lake. It appears to be a good size. I am curious to which areas I should focus on, for shore fishing. Thanks again.

Will this work for winter time as well? And how deep shall I set up my end line for winter season like November time? 10 ft?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures6 жыл бұрын
It may work. Usually in the fall and winter months I would focus my efforts at the opposite shallower end of the lake around Juniper Point and the marina jetty. Usually bottom fishing in these areas with a 12 inch to 30 inch leader and power bait would work best. See some of my other videos for winter time fishing success at the East end of the lake.

I know it's been a while since you made this video but I was wondering how deep you would recommend fishing Big bear around late July and early August. Gonna do some camping over at Serrano. Thanks.
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures8 жыл бұрын
Usually in summer they are deeper... I'll usually fish anywhere from 10 feet down early AM down to 24 feet down mid day. Best depths usually 12 to 15 feet when water is cooler. When water is hot in summer 15 to 24 feet is best. Just have to try different depths. When you get the right depth you will get the fish.
@danyi21708 жыл бұрын

Nice, good info. I like to tip the hook with a small piece of Powerbait salmon egg or nugget. That way the worm can't slide down and the trout has less chance of feeling the point of the hook. I also like to use a bubble-type slip bobber because you can fill it with some water to cast further. Are those holdovers or are they still planting?

I'm heading Big Bear next week , so I decided to watch your videos again , they are priceless! , what you think is the best depth to fish in this time of year ?

How do you know how far along the line to put the bobber stop?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures5 жыл бұрын
You put it the distance up the line that you want your bait to hang below the float. So you chose a depth depentent on time of year and fish location. Sometimes 10- 15 feet in colder months when water temp down. When it heats up 15 to 25 feet may be where they are at. You just trial and error the depth. Find out what is working.

I believe these are hold overs but they are still planting as well as far as I know. Apparently they are planting triploids though now so they will no longer be spawning.
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures11 жыл бұрын
Yeah they can be tight lipped some days when in those large spawning schools. Sometimes all of a sudden they will turn on and you'll catch a few on the mini jigs, but some days nothing. Kind of frustrating.

do you ever fish this slip bobber setup with powerbait? I'd like to try it, but i'm worried that as powerbait floats, the leader will float up past the egg-weight. Any thoughts on how to make the powerbait/hook sink?
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures9 жыл бұрын
+mmhendrie yes it works just fine if you use a heavier hook and smaller clump of bait it will sink. But it's ok it it floats above weight. Especially when windy and the float is drifting then the bait will be off to the side as it drags along. Works great in the wind.

How deep is the water close to the dam? Fished there a few times and never had any luck. Hey too grassy in the summertime
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures7 жыл бұрын
Dario Banks I'm not actually sure but it is quite deep depending on water level maybe around 40 to 50 feet. At least that's what it was at the buoy line on my kayak. I mostly would fish about 8 to 15 feet under the float from February to may. Jun through August you have to go 15 to 25 feet down under the float.

I completely understand not wanting to give out the areas you are fishing at lakes such as this - but the responses for some of these comments were kinda rude. I do however massively appreciate all your videos - I have learned a lot from just watching them. I JUST started getting into slip bobber rigs and absolutely love it, my only question is where do you suggest shopping for slip bobbers out here? Should I stick to online ordering, or is there a nice tackle shop around socal with them? I went to bass pro and got a pack of them, but they're small, and not nearly anything like the ones shown in the video, and Turner's only had the wing-it bobbers, so I bought 1 of those. Haven't gotten to use them yet however. Again thanks for all the tips, maybe I'll see you out there sometime!
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures10 жыл бұрын
Thanks I get all my slip bobbers at bass pro shop. I just get their brand bobbers that come in a pack of 5 i believe, wood, painted fluorescent green and red. They are located at the back left side of the store, I think the last aisle or second to last, facing the right side of the store and near the front of the shelf last time I bought some anyways.

By the dam this time of year. I was there last weekend mid day caught absolutely nothing... just one bite. That is a rare thing for me, but I was fishing from 1pm till 4 pm, bad hours of the day, not my usual fishing hours. Fish around the North shore as well, anywhere you can find a parking spot and walk down to the shore.

I have tried setting the hook really fast which gives me 100% missed hooksets. The other option would be a slow hookset and waiting for them to completely take the hook which causes higher mortality rates... Any tips on this?

@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures7 жыл бұрын
PeUnit sure you can with braided line like dacron or some other heavier test. I've gotten used to these little rubber stops. quick and easy for me.
@johnlewitsky99157 жыл бұрын
Careful tying knots in your line, you could lose everything if your line breaks at the knot. Knots reduce the strength of Your line by creating a stress point. Your better off adding a Bondo, or resin And hardener, fiberglass... I don't recommend it though adding invasive things to the environment that can fall off and will waste your time ex electrical tape falling off 6 times a day and possibly being mistaken as a leach by fish or birds curse them, and adding resins anytime you want to change your rig you have to cut the line... You will save time and money just buying the rubber grommet it was invented as a tool to help you not gouge you! You can leave it on your line forever and it will never get in your way even if your not using a bob. Btw awesome videos Dr!
