That is the most beloved egg in North America! LOL. Spirit has an almost maternal attachment to it, so cute. It’s amazing how complex their relationships are…just like in any primate family, I never would have thought that possible in birds. Watching these nests has humbled me.

I can't believe the attachment to that egg. I think Spirit and Shadow are comforted by it but Spirit really thinks it belongs to him/her. Not only do Mom & Dad incubate, but our current Spirit appeared to be trying to get the warm the egg one time, finally laid down as colse as possible, it was really cute and a tear jerker. This proves it! I always get told in the chat rather bluntly .. when I say Sprit loves that egg .. that Spirit doesn’t claim this egg!! Some say it’s in the middle of the nest so s/he happens to lay near it due to location!! No way!! I KNEW s/he does claims and has an attachment to her/his egg!! ! It’s like it’s her/his “lovey” or “blanket”!! And here is yet another time that proves it!! It’s one of my FAVORITE things that happens in the nest with Spirit!! I agree with you. Spirit has shared space with Eggy since before she was born. Since she hatched, she's leaned against it, slept beside it, and now actively "incubates" it. I do believe it provides a sense of comfort, so she knows it's important to take care of it, which is very sweet and amazing. And perhaps it's the only item in the nest that is just for her?

Wow! At 1:55 - SPIRIT Wingslaps Shadow to make him get away from the egg - then lays on it - incubating/protecting it. Their last 2 boys - Simba+Cookie - when Cookie passed away he still stayed and slept next to Cookie's remains. Spirit is amazing at such a very young age.- Stephanie

Shadow is so funny at these outbursts. He kind of turns a deaf ear to it. Lots of practice not listening to Jackie I guess. What a shock to see how attached Spirit has become to this egg.
