Great job not over RTVing the pan just enough to get a good seal, and not getting some much on that it clogs the pickup by squishing out, all the newbies should take note!

@terryhauck29822 жыл бұрын
Joe, you don't use any RTV on the top of the gasket that contacts the pan? Why not?
@JustMoparJoe2 жыл бұрын
I’ve done both ways. Glued it to pan with yellow dog, and used rtv to pan side. Or Rtv to both sides of gasket. I’ve even copper coated both sides with the spray can and butter had an issue. I think it’s personal preference. Rtv always at any gaps or joints
@terryhauck29822 жыл бұрын
@@JustMoparJoe Thanks. I also made me some studs to align the gaskets windage tray and pan for easy assembly. Great Idea. Take care
@jameswarren18716 ай бұрын
How tight do you tighten the bolts?
@JustMoparJoe6 ай бұрын
Always tightened by hand, I feel for it to start getting tight, and then watch the gasket. When the rtv begins squeezing out, I stop. If you go too much, the gasket will push out. You can see the gasket push out a slight amount, that’s normal. There is a factory torque spec in inch pounds out there, but I’ve never used it.
@jeremygood76183 жыл бұрын
Quick question how did you mark the dipstick? And did you put 5 quarts plus the filter which would be like 6 quarts? I just got my 440 with the same pan together
@JustMoparJoe3 жыл бұрын
I believe it’s a 7 quart pan. We poured oil in, whiped and stuck the stick, pulled it out and cut a line across it with a saw blade. Just enough to etch it well. An engraver would have been nice.

8 qt. pan. According to milodon.

@@proracing9025 you may can switch to the thicker biscuits like a truck would use. 72-90 model I believe. It would raise the engine 1/4-1/2”. Be sure and check the driveline angle to be sure it’s safe.

Does the rear sump make it hard to install the converter bolts?
@JustMoparJoe3 жыл бұрын
No sir. You can install through the hole where the starter would be, also the sump has the rear pan rail distance away from the bellhousing.
