I think another reason mid level guitars have slowed down is pricing. Just a couple of years ago, you could get a Fender Player Series in the high $600-$700 range. I bought two of them back then. Now they are pushing $1000 or more. With that kind of price hike, I will not buy the Player Series anymore.
@brooksroman29182 жыл бұрын
I believe the player series (strats and teles at least) were $649 when they came out (2018?) and are $849 now for the base models, and the vinteras are running $1100+. Crazy
@johnsmith-ug5tp2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, When they replaced the standard strats that were 499.99 they were 629.99. Thats was ok because of the upgraded pickups, trem and block. Then they jumped to 649.99, 679.99, 729.99 and now and 849.99.

Mid teir guitars are now way too expensive if you want a certain name on the headstock. Even the alternative brands are raising their prices, this has to stop at some point. Anyone who has been lucky to have bought a good collection of guitars before the prices went crazy should think themselves lucky, i do. As the future, i am sitting it out, who knows what even food will cost if things don't get resolved soon. So big sellers canceling orders makes a lot of sense.

The real story seems to be that the guitar explosion is cooling, especially in the range the manufacturers raised most dramatically. Don’t let “free money” (guitar sales exploded before there was “free money,” and it ended for most people up to a year ago) or inflation (and the record corporate profits to go with it) be a smokescreen. Inflation has happened many times in the past 50 years. So it's not the only reason for price increases. There may be shortages from parts suppliers, but that's not the real reason to raise prices either. They'd just have to wait to get their parts. They're not producing guitars any faster by raising prices and making you wait longer are they? You're not getting more by waiting longer, you're just paying more to wait. The guitar manufacturers have been riding on the this for over 2 years now. They had so many orders they couldn't keep up. Why raise prices unless their corporate investors are demanding more profits? The factory workers aren't getting any more money than they made before. The only legitimate reason to raise prices is the cost of shipping, that they can't control. A lot of people got tired of waiting for months for their guitars to come in and canceled them. The corporations shot themselves in the foot by making it things worse when they had a good thing going.

These big companies get MASSIVE discounts from UPS/FED EX because of the volume they ship. Even guitar center was able to get out of bankruptcy after this two year boom. This is especially true since 1) purchase decisions for multiple extra guitars were generally so easy (fun, accessible purchases) for previous two years, simply for something to do and 2) those excess guitars were all bought assuming they’d be easy to re-sell and 3) unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea and were also buying excess guitars. So retail will for some time be competing with a huge secondary market of new-looking guitars people have no need and are eager to move on from. The spike of gains of past years will be offset by losses and pricing adjustments. Maybe this will kill some in-store retail experience that we’ve enjoyed for many decades, since nobody wants to risk holding flukey assets and carrying overheads at a loss. No margin, no mission… less gear in fewer stores, manufacturers have to struggle for recognition.

Do you buy from companies that don't want to make money?

@@jonm1544 If he does he won’t be doing it for long. Of course, if he builds a great relationship with such a business he might get some huge discounts when that business does eventually go under.

they are mostly American made products, if you are only chasing price point of course you can always support factory workers in other countries but you are right, in this new financial landscape, not everyone can swallow , PRS , Collings , Gibson standard , fender custom shop , etc prices , everybody on the earth is chasing profit , so I'm really not sure what your beef is , you can get a fender USA for $2000 , if you are working that's not very much money , and you are supporting USA workers

Recently a family that owns Servco Toyota car dealership(s) in Honolulu purchased the majority stake in Fender. TPG private equity is the minority owner. KKR a PE firm owns Gibson. Think about how guitar center can squeeze out the local shop on guitar shipments. GC is also owned by a PE firm. Guess PE types travel in the same circles. However, at the end of the day, they are in the guitar business for profit.

Thats fine...let those of us that WANT those guitars...have them....but...realize...companies MUST make money...to continue to produce product...kinda how it works...

Mid level guitars were questionably affordable for me 3 years ago last year it was b stock now prices are sposed to rise on prs se again My income has gone up about 130 a month over those 3 years my rent is up 30 percent my utilities are about 25% percent more so i like most people have less money cause prices outpace income rise. I used to sell my old stuff on my local marketplace when i upgraded but people want stolen prices now

I find it gratifying and at the same time fascinating to watch and listen to folks complain and whine about getting EXACTLY what they marched, rioted, and Begged, Looted, and Murdered for. Harvest time is nigh. And there is much, much unhappiness about reaping what has been so carefully and coyly sown. 😏
