Alorah Brown I do, however, remember cleaning it diligently. Like the hamster always had a clean environment even though those tubes are horrendous to take apart and put back together haha. I mean, I was pretty good for what a kid could do as far as handling, floor time and cleaning but ugh... that cage! I wish I threw it out instead of sold it. It’s just the outdated care that my mother had.

Omg I love how you mention food in this video. My vet is adamant that hamsters should ONLY eat those lab blocks and that they're herbivores so they can't eat animal protein. It pisses me off, but I've stopped arguing with her. I give my hamsters a seed mix with a couple lab blocks to nibble on, and they love mealworms.

I love your videos and just jump happily when I see a new one but I do understand time pressures. I just wanted you to know how much your videos are appreciated. I have a 1 year old Djungarian hamster that is larger than the other dwarfs I see. She is easily hand held and also has a longer thinner face. I do live in Canada. She has gone from being plump to being longer now which I have to say has worried me as she is aging. However she is very active and eating and is by far the most loving hamster I have ever had. She does all sorts of antics until I pick her up and she gets her cuddles and then she goes about her merry hamster way. She is my little spark in my life. Thank you Munchie for all you do for these little ones.

I temporarily kept an injured baby mouse at my home for a couple hours and let me tell you, you are so under appreciated. The mouse was attacked by my friends cat and he was so tired we thought it was cruel to just leave him outside. I kept him for around 4 hours. He slept for two in a hamster cage I borrowed from my friend and I also bought him some mouse food and fed him milk and cheese. I was extremely stressed and worried about him and I will not be keeping any hamsters or mice in the future because of this. (For the animals sake) Thank you for your educational videos because I wouldn’t have any idea what to do in the situation if you weren’t making these!

I love your videos!! I didn't know anything abt hamsters as I have never owned owned one and really never intended to, I just ran across your page abt 3 months ago. I'm so glad I did, my friend no longer wanted her hamster because they got a puppy and she informed me that if I didnt take it they would put it on craigslist posted as FREE and I couldn't bring myself to let that happen. So I now have what is believed to be a robot dwarf hamster in my care and doing good. He was housed in a critter trail and they blocked off the wheel at night bc it was too loud. When I got him I gave him a bin cage and then checked him over and found a lump on his tummy and his front foot was raw. The cage was nasty so I believe the sore was from his urine. After he settled down and let me handle him I figured out that the lump was a nasty infection resulting from a cut from his broke wheel he had. Sorry for the long story.... but long story short I'm glad munchi is here😊.

A week and a half ago I rescued 2 dwarfs. One male Russian and one female Robo in a single crittertrail together. I saw the add on Craigslist and picked them up a couple hours later. You wouldn’t even believe how bad it was... they had zero water, no wheel, and literally SANDPAPER for bedding. It’s not bad enough two species of hamsters were together in a tiny space with nothing to do. Currently I’ve just had them both in separate 10 gallons for the week, as I had to buy another enclosure to put them in. They’re both already looking better and within the next couple of days they will be getting approximately 800 square inches, like my other dwarfs have. Dunno what I’m doing with them yet, I have a ton of animals so I wasn’t planning on keeping them but I don’t know anybody around my area that would be able to care for them like I will and they deserve the best, coming from such horrible neglect. Probably will stay with me, I’m not complaining tho! Anyways, thank you for inspiring me to save lives!!

There was a huge Russian in the adoption centre area of my local pets store. He was a reddish brown colour which I'd never seen before and not much smaller than a Syrian. Definitely a Russian though. I was very tempted to adopt him but had a house full of hamsters already at the time. He was adopted the following week anyway I was told, by a "lovely family" and was going into a converted fish tank. So I'm glad he went to a good home 😊

Your videos are informative and entertaining as is, if you never make another one you've already made a great impact for people researching hamsters. Do what's best for you and what makes you happy. If fostering or youtubing isn't that anymore, that's okay! You've made an impact on thousands of people, and that's more than the average person working in animal rescue. :)

My first hamster was a purebred djungarian and I wish the breeder still bred them because he was oh so special. He was absolutely tiny, and looked SO MUCH DIFFERENT than alleged winter whites, campbells, or russians you see on KZbin. (And no he wasn't a robo!) He had such a big head and big furry feet for a tiny little body. I wish there was a way to attach a picture. The purebred djungarians look SO MUCH DIFFERENT physically than the alleged "purebred" djungarians you see in the United States pet shops. He was a little pearl that phased to solid white by his first winter.

I would have to disagree on using them as hides. Star our foster was given a ball for a hide and she got her foot stick in the slits when she tried to climb it, causing injury. I have never had a problem in the past using the balls as intended but surprised it being used as a hide actually caused one of our hamsters injury. So don't recommend it.

The other day I was looking into pet adds on this local buying and selling page much like craigslist and ran upon this pet add selling a "mini hamster". From the pictures I saw she lived in HORRIBLE CONDITIONS and instantly felt the need to do something. For a week I kept going back to this add because I couldn't get the poor hammy out of my mind. Shr was a winter white about year old and lived in a tiny litter cage with too small of a wheel, no chew toys, ate birdseeds and they used this brightly colored bedding that feelt like cardboard basically. I don't know where they even got these supplies because we don't sell them in pets stores where I live. They had to go out pf their way to order these supplies online to torture the poor hammy. They only had her for couple months and were selling her supposedly because they didn't have time for her. I think it might have been because she's a biter. But that's only fair causr they didn't seem to be putting any effort in her. Her name is Siiri! She has the spunkiest personality I've seen a hamster have, ever! She looks me in the eye and seems to be very aware of her surroundings, very active. My plan going into this rescue mission was to foster her just so I can get her out of the situation. I paid quite a bit for her and the horrible cage with little food. To me this doesn't matter. As long as I had her out of there in my care where she is appreciated.

All pet store russians are hybrids, regardless of whether they’re sold as Campbells or Winter White/Djungarian. The two species were originally hybridised to create new patterns and colours such as Sunfire. Also unless they are in their winter coat, pure white WWs don’t exist and even most WWs in their winter coat will still have patches of grey

Hey Munchie love the vid! If you go shopping for hamster supplies maybe you could record it and bring us along? I love your old hauls. And does anyone else agree?

I can't find solid info on the safety of reptibark or natural sanitized stone. Cocoa is a dribbler when he drink so I was reccomended to put some large rock and sand under the rock to make cleaning up his water area mess easier. He has a 40 gallon tank of multiple substrates

Glad the little errr... big boy is with you now. XD Also I don't know if you know any rat owners but instead of throwing away those exercise balls they make good rat nests. For some reason my little guys just LOVE round hides.

He looks like my Russian dwarfhamster/winter white. Mine is female and is pretty big as well and 1 year old. She just got babies. The babies are 1 week old. She takes great care of them. She is bigger them the male hamster but he is a bit younger.

Munchie, let me say thank you for this video. I am currently on FB trying to teach some one in the UK that these Tiny Tales habitats (or any others) are NOT good. He keeps on telling me how right he is so I linked your video to him. He has a Syrian in these things! I am shocked and upset.
