Over the years had 2 truck diesel engines burn antifreeze. Both cases was a hairline crack in the injector cup allowing antifreeze to enter with the fuel and creates some interesting colors on the top of the piston. Put new cups in and successfully took away the problem. I pray that Our Lord will watch over your family and your land and provide what is needed. We are living in some Interesting times and all we really have is faith in our Almighty. God Bless You All.

I remember those dry years for my grandparents on the farm, and they were really tough. During WW2 my grandfather grew potatoes and paid of the farm by the end of the war. You farm for the love of farming, there is no better life, just no guarantees for a good crop. God Bless and God Bless America!

Bob, your experience had showed when you stopped the Big Bud, I think you will find there's a fine hair crack in the cylinder head, its slowly leaking into the cylinder head, I think it will be OK until you finish seeding, then as Scott said needs to be checked, the heads have to come off, a new rebuild will fix it, you fellows are very good at fixing just about every thing, so it wont be long & you will have it up & going again, I believe you will have a wonderful harvest this season,so don't worry, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. One farmers pain is another farmers success. El Niño for you in the north, La Niña for us down in the south. There has been to much rain for Eastern Australia recently. I'm no weather expert but I assume that when we have El Niño in Australia the tables are turned and it means good rain for you. You are not wrong about how it feels to go through drought and that it's hard to put into words. Australia experienced one of the worst droughts ever from 2017-19. Just remember, every action has an equal reaction. We are proof of that here with 3 unbelievably wet years after 3 unbelievably dry years. The tables will once again turn! All the best Welkers 👍

Cummins KTA 600 . Before you tear down the upper end of that engine looking for the internal coolant leak , check the aftercooler assembly in the intake housing. I’ve had several over the years that developed a leak in the tubes of that aftercooler. The coolant leaks into the intake air and gets burned up in combustion. I’ve yet in my career to see a blown head gasket that doesn’t pressurize the cooling system. Best of luck on the search for the leak.

Thanks for another great video Welkers. It was interesting and enjoyable. The drone footage was as always just great. Beautiful reminder of farming in America. Thanks for the drone footage. Sorry to hear about the big bud 600. I am not a top notch mechanic but my guess is some how some way antifreeze is getting by the head gasket. My guess is you should pull the heads and see what has happened. Might be the head gaskets. Have they been apart lately?????? Sorry about this. That is machinery for you. Hang in there!!!!!!!! Sorry to hear about a possible drought in your area. Wow. I agree with you to cut back on seeding. No sense putting seed in the dry ground if it will not have the moisture to grow. Just smart to cut back. Agree with your decision no matter how hard that is to do. Hang in there Welkers. Keep us posted on the 600 big bud motor. You all take care and be safe. @greatnorthernn-31542 жыл бұрын
If coolant consumption is a known issue and the unit has to run it would be best to dump the antifreeze and run straight water. Antifreeze in anything but the coolant passages is a bad situation. The situation here in east central ND went from extreme drought last summer to a potential preventive plant situation due to spring flooding this season so don't put too much stock in "long range forecasts". If the acres aren't planted it's guaranteed crop failure.
@donnatalielucasheimbigner75982 жыл бұрын
Could be a head gasket. At least its not leaking into the oil or trans. That would be bad since the water & oil creates an acid that then circulates throughout that system ruining any soft bearings & bushings. Best of luck with that & the rains. Have been praying for all farmers presently with the horrible issues that are in front of you all. I heard that fertilizer is not only super expensive but also the railroad is not shipping any from the gulf area producers outward. I must say that I do reallly miss the view from the Hills area. Be blessed.
@keithreed27312 жыл бұрын
The old Cummins when they "dropped a liner" would go for a few weeks on Liebherr Excavators, you don't get water in the oil right away but there will be some whiteish smoke on startup and eventually you will have to loosen the radiator cap in order to run it. As the liner drops the head gasket goes, it was only one cylinder on the old NT-280's that usually went. If you don't crack the radiator cap you'll find out how good the heater core is in time and your hoses.
@bradpogue34482 жыл бұрын

I feel your pain with the drought. I've seen more droughts than I care to remember myself. The irony is that when the Pacific Ocean gives us a drought in Australia you have it good and vice versa. Be thankful that you have insurance and some form of subsidies however small because here we have zero help and when it goes bad it's no one else's problem but your own. And when it goes bad it's not just a little bit bad. I've learnt that droughts come and they eventually go.
@mtcelticharper2 жыл бұрын
Man, I can't imagine going through last year and this without insurance or federal aid. I don't see how farmers could make it - there are too many uncontrollable, devastating variables.
@stevenstart87282 жыл бұрын
Australian farmers are in a different situation as most of us buy our own land . That means we can farm the production and also use our capital investment as leverage. 70% of Australian ag production is sold for export so subsidized food production is pointless. Because we aren't subsidized our land prices are somewhat related to reliability of seasons and gross dollars of output per HA. When I was young I was somewhat jealous of subsidized nations but now I realize we are the lucky ones.

I'm no mechanic, but I would have tried the same thing with the radiator cap. If it isn't building pressure, it shouldn't push antifreeze into the cylinder. It isn't a solution, but it may carry you through planting. It is amazing the risks you run as a farmer. The ridiculous rise in fertilizer and fuel costs and the whims of the weather just making it hard to figure what to do. If you plant everything and it dries up more, you're cooked, but if you plant nothing and it is a decent year you are cooked because you didn't take advantage it. I think planting something is a better choice than planting nothing (in this case the barley). All the best to you. Praying for a plentiful harvest for you!!

Head gasket is another possibility, Liquid cooled intercooler (if you run one of those), the final thing I can think of is a intake (intake gasket) leak since some engines run coolant through the intake.

From what Robert said, it sounds like the 600 has a head gasket issue..its pushing the coolant out the exhaust. When the coolant level drops too low, the temp sensor has nothing to read so the gauge wont work. Even tho its not pressurizing the crankcase and the coolant isnt ending up in the pan, If theres anymore work to be done with the 600 before its pulled apart, use water only. Thats one of the few things Ive learned in 40+ years working on race cars ;) Fingers crossed its a "simple" and inexpensive fix for yall!!

Had to smile at the rocket in the field. My boys have “lost” plenty of those rockets when the wind carries them away.

We are in a major drought on the Southern high plains I have a section on the south end that has had only several 1/2" after July 2021. What a bummer...good prices and no sub-moisture!

That bad. At least we have cool weather

@@RobertWelkerFarmerBob Yes, we have cool weather this week with 62 for today's high. Our cotton is not growing as it needs a humid 90 degrees. We get 18" average but our dew point is windy dry being so close to the Chihuahua desert. We are 700 miles from the Gulf but you are 800 more than us.
