Great video! I’ve had it since February and also ordered the AltMill to arrive in October. Love the company, bought all their products and enjoyed the fact that you build it from scratch so easy to make repairs and upgrades. That being said, the new anti-backlash nuts are a game changer and their support and groups are top notch. I’m a constant contributor on helping others on the FB site and have seen you on there. Enjoy and maybe I’ll install the Vortex before you (although I doubt). Keep up the great work and enjoy the MK2. It’s already paid for itself and the Altmill.

having mine for a bit over a year now I totally concur. I upgraded from the get-go with a 2.2k water-cooled spindle. and this thing has been a beast.

I certainly think I'll be dropping at least a 1.5 on this soon.

I have the Longmill MK2 48x30 as well, but I did a few upgrades. It's now considered a MK2.5. I've added the Super Long Board and the new anti-backlash nuts. In addition, I got an 80mm water-cooled spindle from PWNcnc. I use Vectric vCarve Pro V12 and gSender for software. You are correct about customer service. It is the best. I am more than happy with my system and would recommend it to anyone. There will be an AltMill in my future.

I also have the Longmill MK2 48x30. It was the best option available for building cabinets at the time. I designed all the cabinets in my house in Fusion360 (free and i already use it for modelling 3d prints) It has built in CAM which works very well. Its amazing that its free software actually. I use a Makita clone off of amazon, I'm already on my second but its only $90 CAD on amazon. Haven't bothered with new anti-backlash nuts or the super long board, how do they improve the Longmill?

Good video James, I've been following your channel for quite some time. It's been a great help. I started out with a 3018PROver, which you helped me with in the past, and I've moved up to the Sienci 48x30 Longmill. The knowledge you gave me, transitioned easily to the bigger cnc. I'm in Newfoundland, Canada, so your videos are far reaching. Thank-you. Much respect.

I bought the 1500x1500mm (59"x59") Ultimate Bee for $1,970 delivered to my house. It can do 4'x4' sheet goods without a problem. I only have to cut a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood in half then stick on the machine and let it do its thing. It has a 2.2kW water cooled spindle, ball screws, all linear rails (no terrible V-Wheels) and is as rock solid as the LongMill. Kicks the pants off the LongMill feature/spec wise at a better overall value. Got it from Bulk-Man3D and their customer service is second to none. The largest, yet much smaller and feature poor LongMill seems like an absolutely terrible value to me in comparison. I do love that Adirondack style chair you made though!!!

You have some of the best setup tutorials out there, thank you for doing those, I’ve learned a lot. I have an odd problem and wondering if you’ve seen this before: I can jog 10mm, 100mm just fine on every axis. But I can’t jog just 1mm at a time. If I set to 1mm, I hear a little bump in the motor but it doesn’t turn at all, not even a little. If I hit jog 3 or 4 times in quick succession then I get movement. Using GRBL 1.1h, arduino uno R3, NEMA23 CLOSED LOOP from stepper online. All axis using the same motor/driver and all doing the same thing (won’t move 1mm at a time).

I chose Onefinity Elite because I could. I considered the Scienci Altmill and Shapeoko, but the 1f features won over Shapeoko and I couldn't deal with the production time of the Altmill. Passed on the Longmill because of the v-wheel motion components.

"Passed on the Longmill because of the v-wheel motion components." l chose the Longmill because of the v-wheel motion components. I'm in the Emirates. We have ever-present, ever-penetrating dust. And local dust is mostly finely ground desert sand. No sleeve bearing will survive for long and those wheels will run and run with minimum maintenance. And they dirt cheap and easy to replace too.

You can do it different ways but for this machine I drilled holes and screwed it down. Sunk the screws in quite deep. I made a video on it if it helps kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2e2aGZ_qpKta9E

Hi James I am English living in Oklahoma, the wife and I purchased the MK2 48X30 2 years ago, we only used it for a month, due to the wife working long hours and my ill health and got put in storage. Today now having more stability and time in our lives I dug the Longmill out of the shed today but soon found out I have forgotten 99% of what I learnt about CNC back then lol. Great to find another Englishman with the same machine that I can learn from. We originally purchased it for a side hustle, my question to you is, - Do you think this machine is still viable to make a few extra quid each week or do you think its strictly hobby only?

@tkpdp Hi 😁 100% you can make money from these machines. Just figuring out what works for you or what you want to make and sell. Some people do quite well by making things like whisky smokers, things for pets like feeding bowl stands, snack trays etc. Whole range of options. If you're selling at stalls, then it's easier, if selling via post then focus on smaller things or stuff that can flat pack. Good to hear you're getting back into it 👍

@@JamesDeanDesigns Thanks James for the confidence booster. Ok then the sleeves are going back up. Think I will start by taking it all apart and rebuilding it according to your vid just to refresh my memory, had some probs before with the copper locking collars on lead screws, I'm sure I will figure it out, love your channel, your attention to detail is refreshing, if your ever in Oklahoma you have a place to crash at our Homestead.

I looked at these for my 'step up' machine, and the price is fair for what you get. However, I was also looking to just source my own parts with linear rails and extrusions, motors, etc and a 2.2kw with VFD spindle. I haven't committed just yet as I'm still shopping around, but there's definitely something to say about difficulty and it not being for everyone, which is where Sienci comes to market. I did grab gSender immediately and Love that software package.

Hi James. GSender is my sender of choice; it is one of the few systems that has ongoing product development. Where did you get the files Z dust boot?
@JamesDeanDesigns
@JamesDeanDesigns 3 ай бұрын
I usually use UGS for a few reasons which is also continually developed bit Gsender was good. Only thing is it seems to take ages to open. The dust boot is their own design. Available to buy but not sure they sell the STL file separately

Hi James, just a quick question given the main advantage of this machine is its size. how does it cope with a laser? same logic bigger bed would result in a bigger work area for a laser. cheers Phil,
@JamesDeanDesigns
@JamesDeanDesigns Ай бұрын
@philipgreenwood166 it handles a laser just fine. Many people use a laser with theirs. Lead screws machines can't accelerate as fast as belt driven machines so that is the main downside.

Maybe this will sound a little weird, but are all the componente metric standard? I'm reasearching for buying/making a cnc, and i don't want to deal with imperial components. I want everything standardized to metric.

Re. 110V power supply. Stuff those transformers. And their power supply too :o} I simply bought a 500W 24V PSU {220V}. It's running a 20A load quite happily right now while I'm waiting for the machine to arrive.
