Man, the nostalgia feels so good. The dances, the crowd reaction , the authenticity and innocence of young hip hop.

This is a great share. Thank you so much! I don't know why it is only now that I thought to do a KZbin search for BDK @ The Apollo. On the "Wrath of Kane (Live @ The Apollo)" cut that was originally included on his 2nd studio album waaaaay back in the day, 1989's "It's A Big Daddy Kane", you could hear the crowd go ABSOLUTELY NUTS when he was introduced. I was hoping to find that footage on here, but perhaps it doesn't exist. But this 1990 coverage is the next best thing. It's hard to communicate it to people now, because a lot of things are different, Hip Hop being much more mainstream with a ton of more money behind it, but, at least within Hip Hop's core audience, there has never been anybody who was *more* the "Golden Boy" of Hip Hop than Big Daddy Kane was during his first 2-3 years out of the box (1988-1990). He might not look all smooth and baby-fied here like a lot of people might now, and the standards for muscularity were not then what they were now, but in terms of actual lyrical talent and the ability to deliver, BDK was as good for his time as any Hip Hop artist ever has been. And it may sound disparaging to refer to him as a "Golden Boy", but it is a term meant to describe good-looking young male talent at its most shining, and really, does one have to be a blonde-haired white guy for that label to be applied to him? Honestly? All of the qualities, other than skin color, that the term embodies, Kane had. And he may have looked quite mature here (he did look very good and very mature at a very early age), but he was only 21 or 22 here, so the term "Golden Boy" could still apply to him. Anyway, thank you *Tetertan*, for sharing this.

I enjoyed seeing Big Daddy Kane perform live in 1988. I am glad that two years later Scoob and Scrap were still creating moving architecture just as strong, if not better, in this video. Modern day Nicholas Brothers.

dressing nice, being smooth, ability to rap, capture an audience, funky ass beats, respecting other rappers are long gone. man i remember watching this when i was stationed at ft.ord. ca. in 1990. today you'll see a stage full of no rapping goons, shitty beats, skinny jeans, dreadlocks, baseball caps,no shirts, and dumb ass nigga's making it rain. man it's not that we're old (44) it's just we're used to quality music, performers, and music that has true substance & creativity. a classic legend!

Reginald Andrews I think it was/is still sorta in a coma but it was heading towards the light and the sparks/voice of the real MCz that are still scribbling in notebooks are leading it back to this side and now it's time for us to work together and bring it back; Equally as awesome as it was @ it's most awesome but with our spin and our heart. Who's with me? ✊

*The Director SUCKSSSSS!!!* I never have understood how filming a show like BDK with Scoop and Scrap, anyone would think required a bunch of tight shots, cuts and constant angle changes! It makes it where they did all that practicing and choreography almost for no reason! With that said, BDK was still a serious show-steeler!
