There was an oncoming drone at OAK on 11/27 (JSX flight 178) that caused us to do a go around once we were stabilized for landing. Passengers could all see it fly about 100 feet underneath us off the right side of the plane. Pilot said that "tower didn't see the traffic so we had to go around" when asked. We flew right over the runway and circled before landing safely after. Crazy.

At least the drone had anti-collision lights on.

It sure can be. Helicopters will likely survive but calling for costly rotor repair. Jet engines, not different I guess.

Great to see the remote ID rules have helped to identify these devices that appear to be flying illegally.

We’re going to need some public prosecutions on this matter. This is getting out of hand. If you’re operating a drone in the path of passenger jets on final, at one of the busiest airports in the world, you should never operate a drone again. Heavy fines are due to

I have had a similar issue in Texas. around 2500 to 3500 feet a drone was orbiting around the plane then left. There was a drotam a few miles south of where I was but the altitude restriction for the drones was sfc to 1500 ft. They were a 5 miles off course and 1000-2000 ft above where they should have been.

Must have been a pretty big drone to be spotted from the plane.

Those small drones a surprisingly visible at night. Flew a Mavic 3 pro in pitch black and saw it at a distance clearly greater then in daylight.

This incident must have been in daylight for them to recognize it was a quadcopter.

@@swooshdave Not necessarily. Most quad copters have lights in all 4 arms.

How do you make these?
@HoldTheLine1990Ай бұрын
So much for all the talk about how these drones can be tracked by the FAA. The UAS certification process made it clear what can happen if you have a pilot certification and miss use your UAS certificate. So what happens to the UAS operator who doesn’t have a pilot certificate? Not much. If ya shoot down a drone we know ya go to jail. This was certainly a commercially used device. When did this occur? I cannot find any info in the video description on the date.
@Witzer0616Ай бұрын
Am I off base or do consumer drones actually go to 2100?
@stephen3164Ай бұрын
The one I have only goes to about 400’. It’s also gps locked to not fly near airports or any other areas that drones aren’t permitted (without FAA clearance). Half my town is a no-fly zone, but luckily over my house is fine. I think the bigger drones that require certification and registration can go a lot higher than 400’, but might be gps locked to not allow it. Guessing anyone flying a drone that high and near a very busy airport doesn’t care much about following the rules.
