An update on this incident here - metro.co.uk/2022/08/31/london-man-charged-with-attempted-murder-for-trying-to-pull-woman-onto-tube-tracks-17274075/ 'A man will appear at court this morning charged with attempted murder after he allegedly tried to pull a stranger onto train tracks at King’s Cross underground station. Arthur Hawrylewicz, 41, went onto the tracks and was hit by a train himself during the incident on August 29. Hawrylewicz, from Cardiff, was treated in hospital following this and arrested. He was then remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning.'

Surprised LFB didn’t attend. Or is it that they respond to fewer underground incidents now the police have their own “fire engines”?
@LondonEmergency999
@LondonEmergency999 2 жыл бұрын
They hold back on sending LFB resources now, mainly due to the closeness of the ERUs. As there is a base in Camden around the corner and one in Islington, they can rely on the ERU teams to arrive in a timely fashion. Also the man wasnt actually under the train, so did not need heavy extraction
@lightningpete

Thats not a Police fire engine. It just carriers specialist equipment required for underground incidents for responders. In addition BTP keeping it in house makes for more efficient turn arounds for network rail

They sent HART (Hazardous Area Responce Team) which are trained to work in extrem conditions. They can remove people safely to a certain extent without fire attending. Hart attend in the incident responce ambulances.
@dasy2k1
@dasy2k1 2 жыл бұрын
@@YelpBullhorn that's because they are built by the same manufacturer as most fire engines and use a lot of the same vehicle parts.... As I understand it they do carry a significant amount of the equipment you would find in a normal fire engine (other than the specific water squirty bits) such as the hydraulic cutters, spreaders etc often seen at motor vehicle crashes

Essentially the British Transport Police police the Railways and some other transport networks like the London Underground. They are a national Police Force and have all the same powers as other Police Forces. They do a lot of joint work with Network Rail (the infrastructure organisation that looks after the railway) and others like Transport for London. They also conduct join safer transport intiatives, patrolling some bus routes etc in select locations around the country. :)

BTP also have the use of railway bye laws and track safety certificates to allow them to walk on railway lines and the power to stop rail services when necessary 👍🏻

In the UK The British Transport Police are funded by Network Rail and finances also come from the franchised rail companies. They are actually a private police force but recognised alongside that of the 43 forces in England and Wales as an official police service They have powers regarding the railways including bylaws that regular officers in the UK dont have.

Could have been worse, much worse. Not for the one hit, but for the responders. A "One under", and I have attended 3, are simply the worst incident since it can be anything from "just" amputatioons, all the way to looking as if the body has gone through a mincing machine. NOT NICE.

They are used by the london undergrounds emergency response unit but are in joint livery and driven by a BTP officer on blue lights the ERU effectively responds to emergencies on the underground to assist the fire brigade, LAS and BTP and carry equipment that is more specialised as well as having more training on emergencies on the underground than the LFB

@@mickadile6275 I see, just like several other public transport companies (I was confused because it says police). It makes sense not to see the Fire department if the 'heavy rescue' or specialist teams are closer anyway. But it would be different if the Fire department was closer than them? Then fire is called out right away just as those specialist teams?
@howardstephens5003

No, these are transport specialists. They previously weren't recognised as emergency vehicles and had orange beacons. The police only drive the trucks with emergency powers and under blue light conditions. Personally, I don't see why these cannot be part of the Fire Brigade.

well ive been to over 10 people struck by trains and it always ends in about 8 BTP minimum (6 cops, 1 sgt and insp). depending on the status of the casualty will determine who else responds, unless the injuries are beyond compatible with life, you still have to have a paramedic pronounce them deceased. if its unknown then youll have advanced paramedics (HART) respond and they normally comes with 3 equipment/supply vehicles, each with 2 paramedics in it, then possible a trauma team of 3 doctors. by the end of it youll end up with like 14 personnel. before even counting fire service (although ive only ever had fire crews turn up to one and werent even needed)

Erm I see you have no idea what you are talking about. The BTP have a specialist team that is involved with rescue. They are trained as medics and are trained to work underneath trains and carry extraction equipment to deal with persons hit by train. A sudden death or in this instance a crime on the railway is a police incident not an LAS or LFB incident. The police are agents of the coroner and will take responsibility of a deceased person on scene. They will investigate I.e CCTV, witnesses, train driver. They will search the body, make sure all body parts are accounted for, recover property, establish ID, inform next of kin, escort the body to the mortuary, prepare a file for the coroner. They do a lot more at these incidents then you obviously think. This incident was a crime so who do you think is going to arrest the suspect?
