I became familiar with the fruit in 1968, a neighbor gave it to my mom who was told to add Condensed milk and cool it before eating. Some years later, I peeled off the outer skin, diced the flesh and stewed🍲 it with Natural Seasoning and Saltfish (Codfish). It was surprisingly very tasty 👌

I grew up in Golden Springs, St. Andrew, Jamaica in the 70’s and had several Granadilla vines in our back yard. My Grandmother used to make ice cream with it during season on Sunday’s. It was a regular Sunday tradition for us at our home. It made a nice juice as well. To be honest with you though, I have not seen it much in Jamaica over the recent years. My Grandmother was from Above Rocks, St. Andrew, and knew of the fruit from there, so it probably goes back 60-100 years. These regions of Jamaica have a nice cooler temperature, with rolling hills, like the Castleton area.

Interesting fruit. Thanks for the video. We all need to save & label some seeds - so many persons say they used to have/see it, but not for years since. Also, if the birds eat the fruit, it's usually good for us too. That helped me decide to try the noni fruit (duppy soursop) before its use became popular in Jamaica.

This is so amazing because I never know that this unique , exotic fruit was still in existence , so it brought back memories , because as a kid growing up in the fifties there was this plant running on this vine making a bed on the cocoa and the coffee trees with these succulent fruit smelling so good . , My mother use to mix the pulp with milk and people always come and pick them on Sundays maybe to make drink but since the plant died I never seen it anywhere else, not even in the markets.

I'm from Port Antonio, Portland. I had a plant of the gradidilla in the 1980s. It was destroyed by someone who did not know the plant. I have not been able to secure another plant since. It makes a great punch when blended with the seeetened milk of your choice.
