I would have killed something for 5.6 mpg when I was hauling equipment. 4 or 4.5 was the best I could do, but that was 30 yrs ago. Some people just don't get how much of a parachute cattle pots really are. Joe did an awesome job with that Detroit. When I started out I met up with a mechanic that used to tune my 8V71 & she used to sing for me. He did it all by ear & a set of feelers gauges. Keep on Truckin Jax

Awesome video, I replaced my new Pete with a x15 with a old 98 w900 with an n14 in it to avoid the evil elog. Just my fuel savings alone between the old vs new engines can really make the difference in being profitable or not in this industry. I went from 4.7 to 6.4 mpg by going from a new truck to a 25 year old truck. And I don’t need to pay for Def anymore either

Can’t wait for the review on the tuner. I have the same truck and have a custom tune but haven’t been happy, I haul two loads per day 98k loaded in one direction and empty back, 570 miles a day. I haven’t done better than 4.8mpg. Just passed the million mile mark. 260k on a complete engine.
@realwildwildwest
@realwildwildwest Ай бұрын
Dang… you should definitely be seeing better numbers than that. Not sure the details of your tune, but I know certain combinations are more power based than mileage based. One of my biggest helps when it comes to the Detroit is keeping my rpms between 1500&1650 when I’m loaded . Any below that it suffers, and above that uses more fuel than necessary in my experience.

The point of view video of that long descent was cool to watch. Too many drivers underestimate braking distance, especially all wheel drive and 4x4s in snow or low traction situations. As a motorcyclist I frequently witness vehicles in curves and often off camber curves that are on the very edge of control. Congratulations on the truck. Your break in method is interesting. I like the care that you take to ensure that your truck is in top operating condition.

The Jake Brake has a comforting subliminal effect reminiscent of being in your mothers womb and listening to your mothers heartbeat, bodily sounds and voice. Imagine a tiny baby kitten in the mother cats womb and the mother cat is purring and relaxing while the kitten is inside developing and growing while hearing the sound of purring. It makes an everlasting impression on the mind. It is actually said that the purring and corresponding vibration has a healing and rejuvinating effect in cats. In addition, the Jake Brake creates a motion effect and some G forces, much like the engine but the opposite, which the humans are clearly enthralled with. I was thinking about your fuel mileage goals and wondered if you could put an electric assist motor in the drivline and stack 5 Tesla battery packs on the back of the sleeper. About 6 years ago I was looking at electric motors for a chevy 5.3l that bolt to the bell housing of the transmission, have a set of pullies for the accessories. This was of on an island however and range was not an issue. Cost was too much for the old chevy though.

Just for reference, the company I’m leased to, one of the other 4 drivers here has a 2014 Coronado glider with the Detroit that he bought brand new. His IFTA average every quarter is in the mid to high 7’s pulling an average of 3k miles per week, 40k lb average, through the PA mountains. Point is, for being a classic looking almost hood truck, they’re surprisingly efficient.

came across your channel just yesterday, and I dig it. You guys seem to be very decent gents. You mentioned here that you were heavy for the first "5-6 hours until the cattle lose weight."
