He's hit excluding 2020 40+ HR every year until this year (36) and 100+ RBI until this year (88) and played EVERY DAY! As always he plays an average to ever so slightly above average defence just go back and watch the countless errors he has saved all the infielders with his scoops and stretches at 1st he's been at his locker every day good or bad to answer the media he is proven in NY and in the post season he wants to be here the organization wants him here and 90% of the Met fans want him back i mean come on the man rolled his truck and still came to the park ready to play! If the Mets were to miss out on anymore players such as Sasaki, Bregman, Alonso, Flaherty, Scott, etc then they failed Soto in the sense of what they sold him to come to Queens. The Mets don't need to overpay for anyone but they need to at least make a serious fair push. If Pete doesn't sign Bregman is a must so they can then move Vientos to first and then go after Vlad later which would make Vientos the DH down the road. The pitching search cannot be considered done at this point with a rotation of question marks.

@ Because he could very well be the greatest, most prolific homegrown home run hitter in the history of the franchise and his defense has improved markedly as well. Also, he’s a fan favorite and he likes playing here, he’s done a lot for the Mets community and he enjoys being a NY Met as well. With him the lineup is one of the most dangerous in all of baseball, without him the lineup has holes in it even with Soto. Homegrown power hitters like him don’t grow on trees, I absolutely do believe he is a difference maker and indeed we do need him in that lineup.

Bregman plus a 600 AB Vientos at 1B makes us a better team overall. Next year would be Pete’s last year at 1B because we would be after Vladdy, Naylor, or moving up Clifford. Pete would be DH for the last years of his deal.

I understand that Stearns did very well in Milwaukee with a methodical dynamic when it comes to running the team. BUT you can't tell me that you are going to be this stubborn after signing off on SOTO, by doing absolutely NOTHING with the pitching. Maybe Mets can get Zac, if necessary, in a trade deadline or prior to trade deadline deal? Zac is from Southern NJ, so he could be a target for the Phillies. The only reason why Soto signed here with us is because Uncle Stevie Cohen got solely involved in the "process" Now that Uncle Stevie got what he wanted, he'll butt out and let Sterns go about his business of us always being in the conversation of signing these big name FA's but never signing them!!!(Soto aside because i gave my reasoning for how that signing happened).

Sterns has all the resources to make the Mets a power house for years to come but he is so hung up on saving his bosses money that he does very little.
