Tyler, great take on how the Dodgers are impacting baseball. Once more, we have high market teams dominating free agency and nothing has changed. I would argue that Cohen treats the Mets like a 'charity organization' and does not want to seek profit from them. I agree though, their is a line to be drawn somewhere in the sand and I believe what makes MLB so great is how one year can venture so differently than the previous one. Great spending and signings limit roster space which can hurt the development of younger players. Teams like the Mets, Braves, Red Sox, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Indians and Astros all have excellent flow of youth and experience that enable them to have longevity. The Dodgers are now putting themselves into a box and they are only doing it to themselves....irresponsible spending will ultimately come at a high price and it may not be worth it in the end. The Dodgers could have won championships without signing billions of dollars and mortgaging their future, but they chose the LA lifestyle and that is just fine....The Mets will be fine and will be a model franchise. Mark my words, what may seem unfair right now might become the biggest blessing in the future. As a Mets fan, I try to pay attention to the Mets and not the sound of crickets coming from Major League Baseball's executive offices..

The Dodgers are not putting themselves on a box. The TV deal itself gives them 334 million a year that alone covers the salary. Plus all deferred money is put into accounts which gains interest thus at the end pays itself. Although I don’t agree with everything the Dodgers are doing they found a loop hole in no way are they cheating, it took a special player for them to do this and that player is Ohtani. Chances are we will never see this type of deferred money ever because not all players bring endorsement money like he does. Soto could’ve possibly structured a contract to provide flexibility he chose not to and that’s fair also he chose his money.

A lot of people forget to realize that Profar has 1B experience. He has only 1 error in nearly 500 innings of playing 1st. I’m not saying he’ll be the starting 1st baseman, but he’s an upgrade over Marte, especially with Starling getting up there in age.

Don't forget that the Dodgers ownership has been building this for 13 years. Management, farm, becoming a destination. Cohen has only been at this for 5 years, with Stearns for two off-seasons. Lindor, Soto, Edwin, Manaea have started to turn the Mets into a destination. The farm is deeper, management is in place, and they're becoming the Eastern destination. The pitching lab made a big difference. If Montes has a Severino bounce back and Holms become a good starter, more pitchers will come to the Mets. It's just getting started.

This guy Stearns is a bum. The Dodgers have gotten more all star pitching and hitting than any other team. When you get Soto and you say on tv that you wanna go for titles (plural), then I hope you mean it. And if you do that means at least one strong bat after Soto in lineup but right now there is none. Santander and Bregman have been on the market, let alone Alonso. Also, we have about the same pitching rotation as last year. Which was good but not great. The only difference between them and the blue jays is that they got Soto. Most expected the mets to get 2 more bats and so far they havent gotten any. If they want to rely on younger players thats fine but those players better work out. The Mets dont have an Ace. They have good pitchers but not great. Last year the Yankees had a chance to sign Blake Snell. They made it to the world series with one of the worst pitching staffs of all time. Blake snell would have made that pitching staff better. Now the Dodgers have Snell. The Mets are doing the same thing the yankees did. Not signing guys and allowing them to go to the competition. By the mets not signing alonso it allows the Blue Jays to get him and by getting him they may compete this year and not want to trade guerrero. The Mets wont win this year. Maybe not even next year. The Dodgers are just more aggressive. The mets had a chance but have blown it. Its over for them. 3 weeks ago we were talking about them getting Alonso, Bregman, Sasaki and a few other guys. So even if they were trying to do it like this (they are not and I explain why in a previous post) It would just make the value of the team lower when they go to sell it. 19:30 ugh the ignorance. You are not allowed to just pay deferments down the road. You have to put money in an investment fund and then the investment fund pays it down the road. For example the Dodgers pay 44 million a year into an investment fund. And then the investment fund will give Ohtani 68 mill 10 years later. By the time these contracts are up the Dodgers ownership will not owe a penny to any of these players. The investment funds that the Dodgers invested in will owe the money. The only reason why the Mets are forced to pay Bobby Bonilla every year is because the investment fund that they invested in collapsed (Madoff). By doing this the Dodgers save 60 million a year in luxury tax payments, that is their incentive. It’s not to kick a payment down the road to a new owner. A new owner that would have no obligation to pay any of the deferments.

They expect their profits to come when they go to sell the club. For example look at the Warriors, the Warriors are the model the Dodgers organization follows. If you go back before the curry era the Warriors were considered an average value NBA team. They are now the highest valued NBA team and top three in the world for any sport. That’s because of the winning and how that winning brought in funds and lifelong fans globally. They are now is $7 billion franchise. That 549 mill revenue is from the 2023 season. They made an additional 150 million counting the money from Ohtani and winning the World Series in 2024. If you are going to call out Dodger fans at least do it with correct information

Soto was a good signing in that Cohen wanted to make a point to the rest of the league. Soto was a bad signing in that he was waaaaay overpaid. I’m a Dodgers fan, but I’m most curious about how the Mets will do this season.

I think Profar is more likely to play 3B and move Vientos to 1B. The homerism prevents Mets fans from seeing how truly terrible of a thirdbaseman Vientos is. -7 OAA, only 3 guys were worse at the position, and they had a two month head start on Mark. He's a hell of a hitter, but he's not a thirdbaseman. He's a 1B/DH only guy on a WINNER.

Mets have to go after Vlady this offseason more aggressively to keep in competition against Dodgers. pretty sure this is exactly why Mets and other teams are so passive on Alonso. I know he said he won’t start negotiation during season but having him next to Soto for 1 year would greatly helpful to keep him.

I would rather platoon Marte & Winker @ DH and let Profar play 1B. Not a huge fan of trading Marte since we didn’t resign Pete and need as many professional/experienced hitters as possible.

Dodgers have been aggressive and smart over the last few years. Always in contention and always involved with big names. Meanwhile someone please tell Stearns he’s not with the brewers anymore. The starting rotation is at best mid, there is no on there that is imposing, Senga had a chance in the playoffs and got rocked. Half of NBA teams lose money. More than half the teams in the premier league lost money. The only league in the world where every team makes a profit is the NFL. The Bills made the least profit in the nfl last year at $65 million. The mlb only having 6 teams to lose money is actually pretty good. Owning a team isnt a money maker until you sell the team. Its like owning a home. You upgrade the home and over time it builds value. You buy the team for $1 billion and sell it in 10 years for $2 billion so you just mad $100 million per year. Thats how you make money in sports teams. So this little article is just crap. The Mets being cheap is just that. They are being cheap. The Mets will sell for 10x what they paid for it in 15 years. They will always make a profit.

Want a real fin POV: the Dodgers deferments will not be an issue: they will take the principle and invest it in a fund/annuity to accrue interests against the principle. The main reason we lost against the dodgers was a lack of true ace. They are fully counting on Senga as ace n who knows if he will be healthy again n I don’t see him as a shut down ace. Not sure why Stern is a dumpster GM. They had opportunity with Crochet, Fried, Burns plus….didnt go fully with Tanner knowing Diaz is shaky n not fully reliable. They shopped n got a Lamborghini but then they parked that car n got 3 cars from junk yard n one from an auction wtf. To me Braves, Phillies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks are way ahead. The Mets are 5th among this group. No true ace, no big bat to protect Soto….lets hope we get lucky. We have 2 pitchers as projects to become a starter smh

At this time the Mets are not contenders for any world series. The only thing that stands out is Soto's signature. The other signatures are offensive players and exploited pitchers. nothing outstanding, the only thing you always report are the intentions of signing something good. Nothing ever comes to fruition. You don't win World Series with intentions. If you are going to sign two additional good hitters, don't think about it, do it.

Profar is not good defensively? I'm sorry I might not know alot about what's on paper but they're not going to post videos up where it's all just about great defensive gems made by a player if that player can't only catch the ball but make huge super all star catches. In my view this man can cover tons of ground and catch that ball. I'm kind of wondering what will happen if they do get him. I know, he is someone who was on my wishlist before and he could be entering into his star years. To beat that Dodgers team, the Mets need a lineup that puts the bat on that darn ball. A lineup with really good contact can give trouble to any pitcher. A lineup with alot of power that strikes out alot is NOT beating that pitching staff the Dodgers have. It must be a lineup that is more than capable of doing all the little things with big things mixed in spontaneously. A switch hitter is always attractive to me and this switch hitter who happens to have good pop with some flare, makes contact. It has to be a deep lineup with guys that know how to grind out atbats and wear pitchers out.
