Howdy Rob .. not sure if you were replying to my comment but if you were you're exactly right and I totally agree with you. The racers were revered around Squaw even if the movie guys were a little more visible and partied more at the end of the day. Mike Hattrup did some crazy stuff for the cameras back in the day but Deb Armstrong is one of the all time greats of American skiing and she knows I'm kidding her about her 180's .. :-) .. Go back and watch her Gold Medal run on her big old Dynastar GS skis .. it's awesome. And if you weren't commenting back to me .. my bad!!

I think Mike summed it up well. "Skiing isn't a lifestyle, it's life". The spring, and eventual summer, brings a small death that waits for a rebirth in the next winter.

Great video. Sring 1988 drove from Dayton to Breckenridge. Christmas 1988 got Blizzard of Ahhs. Summer 1989 loaded up my car to skip my senior year of HS to go hang with Zudnik in Telluride. Got half-way through IL before I turned around.

Years ago, on the now defunct Epicski website, one of the skibum’s had the motto “It’s not that you can’t ski moguls, it’s that you can’t ski...and moguls prove it. Well you two CAN ski, and the moguls proved it! That was so much fun to watch. I liked the alternation of leads. Showed the professional respect you each have. And Deb - Mike was right - that medal is forever and always...

I'm sorry but I haven't followed ski racing much so didn't know you or your story until watching one and, since then, many of your videos. I just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you how much I have been enjoying and learning from them. I very much appreciate your ability to explain and then model what you are talking about. And, then to just watch a person who skis like you is truly a beautiful thing to behold! You also come across as a very approachable person which I appreciate too. Many thanks!

Literally grew up at Snoqualmie Pass as a child of the Washington Alpine Club (Guye Cabin), at the foot of the Source Lake basin and Denny Ridge, skiing my first blacks at Alpental in the early 70's. Was lucky enough to attend a couple clinics at White Pass and chase Steve Mahre down Roller Coaster, but never fulfilled the dream of carving the hill with our own local legend... a gal named Deb. Had lunch with Hattrup a few years later, while out at K2 HQ on Vashon during a visit with REI buyer Dave Chantler. Never did end up skiing with him either. So, this episode was the unexpected fulfillment of TWO youthful dreams at the same time. Many thanks Deb. You were an inspiration to many a PNW skier back when, and are still doing inspirational work today. A tip of the cap to you.

That was a beautiful video. As a lifelong Killington pass holder where bumping is a way of life I was very envious no jealous of those beautiful soft bumps. I am used to rock hard most days. I must admit I have avoided going to Sun Valley as their snow numbers always looked low but that mountain looked beautiful. I need to get out there while my body can still do it. You two looked great skiing together. Its always a pleasure watching real skiers ski, thanks

Mike Hattrup, a true skiroe! You chairlift chat reminds me of the scene in Blizzard where Mike’s riding the chair and telling the story of when he first met a certain Mr Plake. ". . . . I looked back at the tails, 'cause that's where the length was marked on this particular ski, and it said 223, and this was the day before a mogul cotest, and Plake was up there shredding the course on DH boards and turning as fast as anybody else!"

Absolutely a great video. It was fun and educational to watch both of you free ski. Back in the 80’s I had all the Greg Stump ski movies that Mike, Scott Schmidt and Glen Plake skied in. Yes, Hattrup has always been cool! As a 17 year old HUGE fan of the Greg Stump movies he was in, and a wannabe pro bump/extreme skier from New Jersey of all places, I left a crazy message for him when he was working at K2 in Vashon Island. He sent me a couple VIP invites to the world premiere of License To Thrill up in Portland, Maine. Met him and the Stumps and Plake (but not Scot Schmidt, who didn't make the trip.) A year later at the U of Utah, Hatt sent me pro forms to get discounted brand new K2 Extremes (which actually had a great sidecut and flexibility for competition mogul skiing) and 200 TNC's for big mountain, extreme backcountry stuff. I've not seen those great ski movies in like 20 years but I'll order new ones soon and enjoy them all over again! Great video here!!! I hope I get to ski with him one day!

Nice to see two diverse and cool legends ripping turns. And very similar turns I'd say which even with their different backgrounds, the base fundamentals of old style and new school race turns mesh well. But one is left to wonder who is tuning Deb's skis now since Pat Morrissey retired from tuning way back when.

There were so many more and I apologize my old brain doesn't remember all the names. I still think you need to do a throwback video and put the old 205's back on.
