Nano just seems to have everything of the NYC, and maybe a bit more sustain and brighter. Impressed with it so far, and room for two more pedals on the board.

A big muff pedal does not have to be in a large box. All the components used to be larger in the old days. In modern times, components are now available in much smaller sizes.

This video was what i needed. I think the nano is more like the original than the little big muff, which is not in the video. Nice to know its quieter, but the tone knob was 12 oclock vs 2 oclock at one point and never got corrected. This comparison works only if you precisely match the settings. No unnecessary stuff like a wah or chorus pedals is great. I hate when people show a pedal while using extra effects because its not clear what pedal does what. Just use the clean signal. Good job.

The nano sounds brighter but could just be something as simple at pot tolerances or even where the knobs were put on. I find it helps to match the tone irrespective of the knob positions for a better demo.

I had Big Muff USA v.9, had the BM Wicker, now I have the Nano BM. For the looks I would go with the Big Muff Classic USA, but, as sound matters the most, the Nano is hard to beat. I just wish the Nano could have the knobs not so close to the footswitch.

Thanks JJ. Nice comparison. Listening through a laptop I think they both sound very similar too. Is the center pole positive or negative in the all steel 1/8" 9v.DC receptacle? If you know please share.

I found a bit of info on the big muff page. Looks like the plug tip is positive or reverse polarity. Pretty sure most guitar pedals are center pole negative.

The sound is the same to me. The Nano sounds brighter because it is "clearer", which probably has to do with it being true-bypass. I'm not certain if the NYC is or not. Also, around the 3:00 mark he accidentally turns the tone knob on the Nano making it brighter. Other than that, they are the exact same.
@arcanics19717 жыл бұрын
As far as I know they're both true bypass. But I agree they sound pretty damned similar.

2013 this version used same transistors and diodes than the NYC reissue (I don't know anything about the current NYC version) but different vallues from other components especially most resistors. In natural the reissue and the nano have the same amount of gain but sound different. The nano is more angry and clearer.

NYC wins! More bottom, more highs = more lively. But... the right way to do a shootout is with a good A/B box or a true bypass looper. Even your little cord between the two muffs may have had a slight impacton the whole thing. You do deserve a thumbs up, though. Keep rocking!
@bloodySunday778 жыл бұрын
This is completely false. As far as I know, both pedals are true bypass, and beyond that the cable between them in terms of impedance is so small that has no potential whatsoever to make a difference tone-wise, even if it is the worst cable known to man.
@dramius6 жыл бұрын
Not completely false. True bypass doesnt mean zero affect on tone. Every added connection, wire, switch, etc, can have an affect on tone. Sometimes negligible, but Ive heard it be pretty noticeable..
