Definitely true if they are planning on doing SE 2. It wouldn't be impossible to put VRAGE 3 into SE1, but the engine is the foundation, so you have to tweak or even re-do everything else in the game if you want to change the engine; at that point you might as well make a new game. From a business view you have to give players a reason to buy the new game, from a developer it makes sense to prioritize and be efficient with finite resources.

Im pretty sure they are going to announce se2. They added most of their most wanted features like pve and exploration and endgame content in the most recent update, so i feel like the future for se1 is mostly closed like how he mentioned in the stream. Plus we are seeing more and more vrage 3 content that isn’t just engine tests, stuff like the asteroids could be handwaved away as just a test of voxel technology (like the crash tests with voxel deformation) but the new unified grid and the way they talked about the blueprinting makes me think these are real features not just engine tests. I am lead to believe that se2 is a real possibility for and upcoming announcement, likely to release a fair bit out and perhaps with very few of the new features on launch (like water), and so there will still be time for more se1 content but ramping down to maybe just a most wanted 2 update.

I would genuinely be surprised if they didn't come out with SE2 at some point down the line. All of the showcases they have done for VRage3 have used the space engineers style and they are clearly making many space related assets. Lotta work if there's no end goal behind it... They're not oblivious enough to not realise that SE2 on VRage 3 would be a smash hit. Even if they release something else in VRage3 in the meantime to stress test the engine, SE2 is for sure on the roadmap.
@SmooreMC85Ай бұрын
100% agree. And I think it's time to turn the page on SE1. Now I'm curious if they'll be doing early access again. Maybe that is what they announce later in the year...
@kahwigulumАй бұрын
hard disagree i dont think there will ever be a SE2 I think they will continue to push SE forward given that they showed old SE and the progression from then to now I think the tease is that they are pushing VRAGE3 into regular SE, not releasing a new game that they'd then have to support on top of the old SE.
@pr0hoboАй бұрын
@@kahwigulum personally i think this would be really cool to see, but there are two reasons i think it wouldn’t happen that way. Number one is the programing dificulty, its way harder to push a new engine on an old game (and fix the countless bugs and massive troubles with humongous file sizes being changed by the update) than to push an old game on a new engine and just upgrade a few things for a rerelease/2nd game. The second reason is money, se 1 has run a long way on dlc money and the hopes and dreams of making new sales, but at this point most people who would buy the game have appart from a few stragglers. They had to increase the price of dlcs a while back because it wasn’t enough, like they said its a big studio, and even if they made a vrage 3 update as a dlc they would get way more sales if they instead release it as a new game plus they can release it sooner in early access rather than wait longer to back port it on the old game for less sales. Id love to be proven wrong tho so i could save some money and maybe even my blueprints

used to play Medieval Engineers too, kinda a shame they stopped development on it, though some third party work is being done to maintain at least.... what i would like to see is a bit more of a combining between ME and SE.. in short it would mean a revamp of the planets portion that follows closer to ME, all still allowing the SE part to work as one could go from planet to planet... i think the biggest part would be a system of structural integrity added to SE, mostly for planets of course, but an SI system could affect some ship builds too...

Scalable blocks was a huge item on my wishlist. Building on that, it would be great if this future hypothetical SE 2/whatever game could streamline the block selection for curves somehow. I for one dread the thought of having to manually pick sloped blocks across that 25 cm grid. It would be really handy to have a construction tool that can mark curves, like a spline tool, then the game auto-assigns blocks that best fit the curve. Bit of a moon shot, but I wonder/hope some clever person will figure out if it's possible to convert SE blueprints into the future SE 2 / VRAGE3 / whatever game. By default I assume not, but maybe someone will come up with a "block replacer" script (like the conveyor and armor mods/scripts that Whiplash and Klime have created for SE) that swaps out every SE block for an equivalent SE 2 block. There are 300,000+ BPs on the workshop, representing a decade of creations and hundreds of thousands of hours of work by the community. It'd be nice to be able to bring them forward with us into SE 2, though with the community's size and creativity now, I'm sure we have yet to see many more really amazing designs.

building spaceships completely free form like one uses voxelhands to make asteroids would be fantastic, but we need at least smaller than 25 cm blocks for proper detail, 25 cm is too large
@dakaodoАй бұрын
@@jh5kl 25 cm is already higher-precision than SE currently. At this stage, VRAGE3 is still block-based, not freeform sculpting. So we have to work with what we have. Just think of it like any other low-fidelity pixel art or ASCII art. Instead of picking colors of pixels or ASCII characters, a construction aid tool could best-fit 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 slopes, corners, etc. Draw a circle, or an ellipse with major and minor axis, and the tool fits available blocks to the curve. I've mentioned in other comments that some kind of dynamic block-sizing would be more streamlined than using the current cumbersome block selection of slopes, corners, transitions, mirrored, inverted, etc. Heck, just like current SE small grid light armor blocks, each block could be functionally identical, but visually they'd smooth out an infinite range of slopes according to their nearest neighbor blocks or player-marked spline nodes. But that's well beyond the construction paradigm KSH is basing SE on.

Absolutely, I was going to comment this also. Starship EVO has a unified grid system as well and that's one of the game's strongest selling points. Combine that with the other things we love about Space Engineers and we might see an explosion of game value in SE2. The only thing I'm apprehensive about is if SE2 leaves behind a lot of the content that SE developed over the years - especially all that block variety.

I would absolutely love to have the unified grid system in SE. Being able to build smaller bases on voxels instead of using massive 2.5 cubit metre blocks; have realistically thinner walls. @@johnfink9020 You don't think they already send it off early? They aren't stupid, everyone who has worked with or actually follows console development knows how terrible the certification process is and how long it can take. You can get denied last second, be denied for something irrelevant, be approved when there are glaring issues, wait weeks/months for a response, the whole process sucks. Ignoring that, they have to commit to a date, if Microsoft or Sony decide to pull out at a bad time, tough, it's hard to push back an update you are already in the process of rolling out. It's not as simple as pressing pause, servers take time to update, distribution takes a while, who knows what their development process looks like but that could be heavily affected too. They do not owe you a refund, Microsoft might IF the Microsoft store page was advertising the update, but Keen don't owe you anything as they aren't the seller, Microsoft is. Even if they were advertising it, you would have had to purchase the game after the store page was updated, not before, otherwise they are under no obligation to refund you for that. I'm not sure exactly how the Microsoft store works, but I find it hard to believe you could buy something that isn't out unless it was specifically stated to be a preorder, so the DLC is also out of the question. Yes it sucks, but point your frustration at the system, not at people which you have no understanding of what their job entails or what exactly they have done. It seems likely that they're going for a 'Space Engineers 2', though perhaps not by that title. Maybe more along the lines of 'Solar Engineers', 'Galactic Engineers', or 'Cosmic/Cosmos Engineers'. The features in VRAGE3 that they've shown off have been planets, liquid water, the classic grid system improved, asteroids, really cool rendering, and loads of SE assets which, though they could be placeholder, help say 'Yeah, this is going to be the successor to Space Engineers'. I don't know if they're ready to announce anything yet, but what they've got so far is actually somewhat comparable to the first demos of Space Engineers, if not a bit more: Building, destruction, physics, vehicles, asteroids... and that's about it for what was in the original Space Engineers. Except they've also got _vastly_ improved rendering, planets, and fluid simulations. The same thing happened with Medieval Engineers, where they released an early-access 'proof-of-concept' creative-only sandbox to play around with while they made the game proper, so it's nowhere near a stretch to think they'll do it again.

I would like it if I could have some small grid cockpits on large grid. Like the fighter get one. Also having it so I can build on angled blocks would be a good thing. Being hindered in designing ships by this is a pain. Longer distance of both the small grid and large grid ore detectors is needed. Their distance is to short. Small could be moved to 100m and large grid could be moved to 200-1000m. Having a device that better detects and displays the ore would be interesting. Like a hologram. Once you find the ore you use that device and it maps out the ore and what it is. While the ore detector only lets you know ore is nearby.

I just really hope they implement a feature where SE1 blueprints can be brought into SE2 without making you rebuild them

Space engineer's 2 is not a separate game It's the same game, they will simply put vrage 3 on space engineers 1 and do a lot of changes.
@OwlThunder_GamingАй бұрын
@@zack_the_proot that seems hard to believe, as at that point, it would cost keen more to change an aging engine for a new one, than to just release it as a new game. Besides, it wouldn’t be worth it in the long run to take a 10+ year old game and change it into a modern engine
@zack_the_prootАй бұрын
@@OwlThunder_Gaming it's what they said.

unified grid is a massive improvement but 25 cm is too big, we need better detail and 25cm is just too large. smaller blocks and building with voxelhands would be perfect

Medieval Engineers 2 confirmed.
@jennifercormier2318Ай бұрын
How can you say this isn't a big update? Unified grids makes for infinite build options. It's quite possibly the biggest and most needed update for this engine.

It's not for Space Engineers...

Please tell me we don't have to weld EVERY individual block in the new 25cm grid system...

For now let's enjoy the game in its current state, which I consider to be better than ever. Let's stop preparing so much for a future in which we probably won't be.

has it been said that vrage3 could be ported into SE1? or is that a no go? im curious
@guru187Ай бұрын
Keen haven’t confirmed nor denied anything on it being a port however they said a while ago when they mentioned the new building system they said it would not work with any blueprints currently in the game. So IMO I think they will make a sequel because imagine the uproar if they announced “we’re upgrading the engine but say bye to all your guys bp’s”. If they made a sequel technically no bp’s would transfer but they would still exist in SE1.

if vrage3 happens in se1 im gonna be really happy. if it happens in se2 im also gonna be really happy

It's nice that the developers are trying, but still, they are far away from the capabilities of mod builds of the game. I'm waiting for VR support to get back into the game. :)

I stopped playing Keen games when they dropped Medieval Engineers like a hot potato. I may play this again some day, after VRage3 is implemented.

biggest thing missing in SE for me are NPC's who man their ships/station/outposts and animals/wildlife on planets.

ME still works, play it on and off. (With the lack of content for it, it gets boring fast)

Medieval Engineers was fantastic for its time but it desperately needs an update and better graphics.

i'm guessing keen will cease development of SE after a few more updates to work on SE2
@patrickheney9201Ай бұрын
SE has a proper game loop now? I disagree. SE is still "build shovel -> get resources -> build better shovel." The prototech element does nothing to change that. You're still gathering resources to build better shovels. It's no different than when a game like Diablo has an update that raises to maximum level from 60 to 70. Yes, there is now a combat driver, but then end result is the same, to get resources to build better shovels. I do think it's a good update. The blocks are very nice. The prototech loop IS pretty cool. But I wouldn't go so far as to say SE has "a proper game loop now," as it's still a trivial linear game loop with no reason to do anything other than build shovels.

it looks like there going the same way stardock did ware the old game engin is at its breaking point so hopefully this means that space engi 2 is on the horizon
