BIG Paint Fail and Starting Work on the Electrics - DIY Italian Farmhouse Renovation & Restoration

In today's episode we encounter a BIG paint dilemma at our italian farmhouse renovation when the paint we order turns out to be completely wrong. After spending a lot of time and money getting the paint, we have to come up with a DIY solution to solve the problem. We also begin tackling a lot of the tasks that have been pushed to one side for too long. This includes starting work on the electrics in this case installing lights.

Our Story:
We sold our apartment in Stockholm, packed up the car and headed for Piemonte. After a couple of months searching for the right house we came across Our Italian Dream House and immediately made an offer. Four weeks later (just three days before Christmas 2021) we signed the contract and had the keys.
It's now early 2024 and we have been renovating this epic house for two years now. We are mortgage free and have a very limited budget so we take on as much of the renovation ourselves as possible - follow us on our journey as we turn an abandoned Italian farmhouse into our dream home.

Hi Wayne, thanks for commenting. The green wasn't a terrible colour, it just wasn't what we were expecting and didn't match our vision.

FYI not sure if it really matters to you at this point (but we’ve experienced it first hand…) - Jotun (silently) changed a ton of their standard colors/color codes around 2021/22. As such, the color we picked at some point was not the same at all, buying it at a later point. We found out after a renovation where we wanted to keep the same color… Nonetheless, they have a conversion system that finally solved our mystery. Again, possibly not relevant for you at this point, but something to keep in mind for the future if you’re using jotun colors or references!

It was a good decision to repaint. The color fits well and its really important to do things that YOU like to 100%. It drives me crazy when ppl say "leave it like it is, no one will ever know"... cause the ppl dont understands that its not the problem that someone else could know that it isnt the way I wanted a color, cause the problem is that I would know it! So I totally feel you :)

I don’t think the color translates accurately through our video screens all the time. The first paint color looked almost lime green, even after it dried. On the other hand, the custom mixed green looked like sage green when you were putting it on the wall, but after it was dried, it looks more like powdered green. Still very pretty, but nothing like what you said you were after, lol. I have to figure it’s a combination of lighting and video screens. 🤷‍♀️😄 Nice work!

We have never painted anything either grey or black so Im not sure what you’re referring to? And about the shoes, it’s an entrance so the shoes will be on the shoe rack 😊✌️

I have very thin knowledge of electricks, but stil I remember one point: if the swich has connected wrong, like swithing the neutral, then you get the light out with that, but still you can get shocked when installing the lamp, as live wire still is alive. That green suits, I'd sure just paint with that end-green over the first green.

I would have painted a sample of your dark mix, over your original mistake green to seen how it would have turned out treating your original green as a dark base. You may have saved having to paint a white base. It may have come out more to your likeing.
