It have been around for sometimes with some caveat which is any changes happened in windows whether its due to windows update or hardware change /replacement will make the offline activation code expired

Hot take. PS2 was one of the first DVD/video game devices with the ability to surf the web and had an HDD slot that also boosted its performance with some of the best games ever. PS2 were not even close to have HDD first. CDTV From 1991 and CD32 console from 1993 had support for HDD. Also, CD32 console were on internet in 1995.

Balatro is great!!! It's like poker but not really....it's really a deck builder and the all the various modifiers (jokers, arcana, planet cards, tags, etc, etc) give it tons of replayability! Steam, Android, Xbox and 3 copies on switch for me (2 for Xmas gifts 😊)!!! If you love a game support the devs!!!

Same for the PS1 and PSP, they still shipped to retail several units after they published those numbers and for years people speculated what the real numbers truly were, especially for the PS2 since it was the best selling console of all time so naturally, there was curiousity to know. 1 in 20 commenters have no idea how sales figures are tracked. Sony has no idea you bought a used PS2 from your local Gamestop last year. They only know about the ones that they sold to stores and the ones that got returned. Once they stopped making them they stopped selling them; that's it. Even if you bought a 'brand new, unopened PS2 right now from anywhere, that is a console that was already sold, you do not add a +1 by buying that console. The last 11 years of 'sales' mean nothing.

As a long time veteran of console wars, I get no joy out of the endless bickering. This is the same energy as back when people were trying to claim whether the Atari 2600 outsold the Colecovision, or if the NES was better than the Sega Mastersystem. Logically, the PS2 sold in markets that weren't current with the end of life of the system in it's major markets, but that also holds true for any of the other consoles. Hell, the Genesis/MD could have sold another 2 or 3 million before it went off the market due to some tiny Eastern European countries to get it's final number, but we'll never know for sure because numbers in the millions stop making sense after a while. Who even knows if 155 million was accurate when it was written? Keep in mind, none of these companies are counting every system reaching a human being. All they're counting is how many the stores purchased from them. Sears could buy 250k systems and then loose them in a fire, that still goes in the "sold" column for the accountants. As always with Mobile I don't trust it as far as I can throw the Moon, but "one price, one purchase" for Balatro is the way to go. However, I will _never_ trust Mobile as a secure platform for monetary investment when everyone is pushing a "You don't really own that thing you paid money for" narrative, and phones are as disposable as an Olive Garden napkin.

I'm currently in the middle of playing Blood Omen for the first time (I played the rest of the series decades ago) and I really wanted to buy it, but I can't justify $7 for it. Don't really care about sales but you have remember the PS2 was also a higher end DVD player that came out compatibly cheap when DVD sales were taking off in the early 2000s. There was a whole generation that bought it without even using it as a game system.

At the same time it was very much a family system for the living room. My siblings played it with me at the time, requiring just one system. These days everyone has bought a second Nintendo Switch for travelling or for a family sibling, so it's not really an accurate representation of sales numbers either. I've known people to trade in perfectly repairable Switch consoles that simply need new batteries, for brand new Switches.

That's not how sales are tracked at all. They can't track resales; once they stop producing them and have sold however many they can, that's it. The counting is done. SO the figure is derived from units produced, minus units returned/destroyed. You can go buy 1 million PS2's right now, and Sony will never know or update the figure because they did not sell those units they were units already sold.

@ΓιάννηςΤσ You're kind of right. The Wii was more of a "GameCube Pro" refresh or revision. While the WiiU was actually the next-gen update. And the "WiiU Pro" refresh did come in the form of the NSwitch. So in the span of 3.5 generations (PS2, PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro) of consoles, all we got from Nintendo was 2.5 generations. It's even worse, since we have had another 1.5 generations (PS5, PS5 Pro) since then, and the rumoured Nintendo Super-Switch still has a year to come.... AND it will only bring in a full 1.0 generation uplift (PS4 Level). So from a developer viewpoint, it will be around 1.5 generations behind. Which sucks for consumers even more, as we won't be enjoying the majority of games, so say goodbye to GTA 6, or Witcher 4, or the next big blockbuster hit. Here is where I give props to Microsoft, at least with Xbox Cloud, there is a chance to enjoy some of those AAA Games portably. And even more praise goes to Valve for bringing this into the mainstream, the first SteamDeck is great and suffered about 3 Years of delays.... hopefully their second-gen will come and keep up in the technological race.

Devics like the PS2 are a bad comparison because they are Home Consoles. They are not designed to be pocketable, nor are they portable. For electronics, the form-factors range from: - keychain (microtronics) - pocket (phones, handhelds) - portable (tablets, laptops) - Desktop/TV (consoles, PC tower) - Large Server/Processing Farm (single room, buildings) To compare within each category we need to be careful. But we cannot compare outside, from two different form factors, as the discrepancy is too much.

Balatro is my game of the year, because it manages to be more fun then any other game released this year without trying to push selling points like graphics or a compelling story (not that having a good story in a game is bad but gameplay should always be top priority) Balatro is a video game in its purest form, nothing on top to try and distract you from what is at best a 7/10 game, just a fun and addicting game

I played Balatro right after release, around February (it was on closed beta since Q4 last year and I used to watch Northernlion play it, that's how I knew about it) It's a really good game, quite addictive I'd say. Everyone who knows the history of gaming, knows the contribution of this company that's still going today. That's why they don't lose value. As for the switch, it was a big bet , a compact device with removable controllers and haptic feedback (before ps5). When everyone (including sony) said this market was dead because of smartphones. Super excited about the steam controlle[r], but looking at the render I am concerned about accidental touchpad touches while using the joystick. Hope they will have good palm rejection. The RAM reading in Ass creed shadow if probably to push micro transaction. Buy in game money (for an offline game) with real money. There are only handful of people who want a fast track progression and even less who would pay real money . They think the whale population will increase if trainers don't work.

Balatro GOTY. It's the only game on the list that takes 5 minutes to play and you are guaranteed to come back. I dont know anyone who has more than 5 minutes to play games these days.

One thing that I find hilarious about the PS2 sales, it's the fact that is still selling after being discontinued, lol!. I mean I would like to know where are selling new factory sealed PS2?, because I would like to buy one since the mine one is broken and I would like to contribute more the sales. 😂

Those extra 5 million were from 2012 to early 2013. Sony never revealed them but we knew they were still manufactoring them after the 155m announcement in very early 2012. There was actual speculation as to how much it truly was, people thought it was between 157m to 161m and they were right.

Jim Ryan is known for being very divisive and feeding the console wars, the official Sony page states that they sold 155+ million PS2s and he suddenly said they sold 160 million, right when Switch is almost going to overtake PS2 sales For all I know, the official number is a bit vague and it could be Jimmy being an incendiary little crayon muncher trying to piss off Nintendo fans and feeding the console war again I say, don't take that to heart, no point in fighting over preferred sources of entertainment

In all fairness I know so many people that bought two or three Switches for themselves. Either to justify travelling to work ie Lite, for the OLED screen, or for some limited edition themed collectors. Faulty batteries and cracked screens were something more common than even the PS2's disc drive failures.
