I am 56 years old and have run sporadically since the beginning of the 80s. In December 2022, I started training harder, listen to what the body says. Don't know if I'm doing it right. But at the end of April I ran 5Km in 21.43. So I'm doing something right, for 3 minutes faster time. I earned it😅But half and full marathons are prio. BMW Helsinki Marathon coming up in August

I did a 5k last night in 33 minutes, but it was difficult. Are there any tips for a beginner runner ? I'm doing 5k 2x a week and 10k 2x at week at a slower pace

Also I'm 78kg if I drop down to 70 - 72kg is this enough to benefit long distance running ?

@@keiranbygate3752 like the video says be consistent and patient and you will get there. Takes time to achieve impressive results. Be in it for the long haul and don't expect any quick fix.

@CL-tv7pz Sorry didn't watch the video yet at work so I saved it. I will take into account what you say though, consistency is key!

@@keiranbygate3752It's just a matter of consistency. When I just started a year ago, I could barely run 500m without getting out of breath and my first actual 5k attempt was a 28:40. Now a year later my normal running pace is a 23 minute 5k. Main advice I can give from my little experience is to not focus on running too fast, too often or too far. And really work on strengthening your core, calves, knees etc through other exercises. I didn't and ended up with some injuries early on.

For an older runner (55+) running is like dancing on a vulcano. Pushing my pace is easily aggravating my hamstrings or knees. I did most of the last years running at a low heart rate (around 122) which enabled me to run my marathon at a lower heart rate (10bpm) but it came at a cost of running slower in my 20 miler before the race. Well, there is always another race coming.

I want to thank you Stephen for your inspirational and educational videos. On Sunday I finished my first Comrades marathon at 40 years old. I am extremely slow and had to put in a lot of hard work to be able to run 88kms. I've had to change gears this year to get my mind in the game and it's people like you who've helped me stay focused even on those icy cold mornings when I didn't feel like getting out of bed to run for 4 hours. Thank you.

I think I read a similar quote from a Jack Daniel's book to put in the least amount of work to get the training effect. It is hard on the ego I think, but keeps one from overtraining..

My hardest task when training is building back up from where I use to be. It is hard to go from 40 plus miles a week to under 20 miles. Slowly, but surely I'll get back.

Love this video. Criminally under-followed advice here. I'm a member of some of those very large running-related FB groups, and it is unreal how often people - some of whom are selling online coaching services - preach the mentality of giving it your all, day in and day out, in order to reach your best potential. The "church of Goggins" is strong among a lot of the running community, unfortunately 🙄

Hi Stephen, I just bought your course and am planning on starting my training block the next couple of weeks. One question I'm having a hard time answering is how to set a goal time for a Marathon. I've ran my first one in exactly 4 hours but with only a short 8 week training block before and have been consistently running since so I'm having difficulty predicting what I could achieve with a full 20-16 week block of training? Thank you for your videos, they are incredibly helpful!

Hi stephen, i went out for a 9 mile run yesterday and i found that the bones on the sides of my knees got sore, would you have any idea on why? Plus my quads always burn out come about 4 miles. My aerobic fitness is there, but my quads always let me down. Any tips to help that? Thanks
@aaronbr2001
@aaronbr2001 Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t sound like you are using your glutes. Your glutes should get tired before your quads unless it’s downhill and if you aren’t using them to stabilise then your IT bands can get sore. Try work on your technique- pelvis in neutral position, not bent at waist, not overstriding

@@aaronbr2001 x2, my quads never get tired. It's usually calves or glutes and my hip flexors getting worn out.

Stephen, you don't need to add these memes in between. Its for those who have no real content to share, so they have to make it interesting with those memes. I know its a trend these days, but imo not really needed for such informative content as yours. Ofcourse, its just my opinion.
