A thumbs up is not enough for what you do. A thank you is not enough. I have a you Tube channel. It's just my music on it. But if you ever need help with gathering materials please go there and send me a message. I can't quilt but my Mama sewed beautifully and made many. In her honor I'd love to help. She kept the faith when Daddy was in WWII, when my brothers went, one to Korea the other to Vietnam. She sent care packages to them and their platoons every month. If they weren't still where she sent them then the other soldiers got them. She always included Jam Cake and a wide variety of cookies, lots of fruit, and tons of already stamped envelopes so anyone who needed them could write home. Miss her so much. 🙏 Thank you for what you are doing. God bless you. 🙏

There is a documentary that goes with this song where they all went to Vietnam together to take his boots back and leave them there where his brothers fell. Super emotional but worth a watch. Thanks for doing this song. 😊

Kris Kristofferson is a great singer/songwriter in his own right. One of his greatest songs is "Why Me, Lord?" He lived a rather wild life until he was brought to faith, and he ends every show with that song. A great one by Charlie Daniels Band about Vietnam is "Still in Saigon"--it might bring on the allergies, though, because it's an accurate picture of PTSD.

I've known many who served in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. War is hell! The things they told me were the stuff of nightmares. 😳✌❤🇺🇲
@Teresia12
@Teresia12 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. My Fsther-in-law was a fighter pilot in WWII. He had to have a lot of therapy. His nightmares were of the innocents the bombs he dropped killed. My husband went to Vietnam twice. His nightmares included trying to somehow save the very young children they would send to the American's camp with bombs strapped to them. He stayed in 20 years. He has passed away. He was one month from retiring from the Sheriff's Office. I learned to dodge in the middle of the night. And how to talk him through it. PTSD isn't a new thing that just started happening in Afghanistan. It's been around as far back as the Revolutionary War.

My mom's cousin lived in one of the villages and helped to train the south Vietnamese...they had to eat what the local people ate and he said it was considered a great day if a dog wandered into the Village....and you never knew if the man you were f fighting at night was someone you had trained that day...it was crazy.

I served eight years in the Marines and combat Desert Storm veteran.someone who has never been in combat can never truly understand what we went through.seeing your friends killed or servilely wounded never leaves you.you come back home and nothing makes sense and everything seems to be a threat .on top of that you deal with survivor remorse because you made it and your friends didn’t.

Alot of those soldiers that survived were NOT welcomed home. Alot of Americans protested the war. Most of the sodiers were booed, hit or spit on.. Nobody appreciated what they sacrificed. If you ever see a Vietnam veteran thank them for their service, it will mean the world to them, even all these years later.

I'm a vet and can tell you a lot of my friends lost their lives in Nam. It was a crazy war. So many lost their lives for a war they couldn't win because of politics. Just incredibly sad situation. The sad thing is in that war it was hard to tell most the time whom was enemy and who was friendly.

My family has a long military history. My mother, father, uncle, grandfather's and now my daughter is proudly serving. My uncle was never the same when he came back from Nam. He got hooked on drugs, became an alcoholic and disappeared. For over 25yrs we never knew if he was alive or dead. He was found living under a bridge somewhere in Texas. He was brought home and was able to see his dad before his dad passed away. I wish I could say all was well, but my uncle's demons were still chasing him hard and he never gave up drinking and he has once again disappeared. The struggle and sacrifice is real. Sometimes even when they come home, not ALL of them come home. So, when you pass a homeless veteran on the street or what not, please be kind. That's someone's brother, uncle, son, dad, daughter, sister, aunt, or mother. You never no what demons or monsters they are fighting. Much hugs and respect to all ❤️.

My brother served in Iraq 2003, was severely injured; between developed complications of diabetes and melanoma, he passed in 2014.. His name was also Niles. He never showed any sadness about his situation, even when he was told chemo wouldn't help anymore. But he couldn't talk about two of his battle buddies that were killed in action without a breakdown. This song still makes me break down..

Most, if not all, of the Vietnam veterans I know are very proud of the service they did over in that confusing, and ugly war. Two of my uncles served there, and I considered them my heroes. Almost 60,000 men gave their lives in that war, and we still don't quite know why. Now we have Afghanistan to add to the confusion, and another group of veterans who are left to wonder if their work was worth the horrible cost. Our country's leaders don't seem to understand that our military men and women are more than willing to serve and fight for this country (God knows I was, and still am). But we have to be assured that we will be used for the purpose we were trained; to kill the enemy, and wreck his things. We are not nation builders, and social workers. Thank you for your compliment at the end; it means so much to me, and other veterans, to know that we are appreciated. God bless you.

It's tough, but it's good. our generation probably was not taught this in school, because they had "other priorities" to teach, so it's important that we know what happened. for an example, a few years back i was walking in one of the towns near where i live, and i saw an old black man walking and he had a leather pilots flight jacket, and i found out he was an original Tuskegee Airman. i went up to him and asked to shake his hand and thank him for what he did for OUR country. i felt like i was amongst royalty, here i am a white guy and here was this elderly black man, who had to go thru separate training than his fellow white serviceman, etc, just to ensure our country remained free. i could've talked with him for hours, but he was in the area to speak at a school. i will never forget it.

Somewhere out there is another video. Where the guys that sing this song. Go back to the site of the actual battle in Vietnam with their friend who survived it. Its not a song but it is very cool and touching. Especially when they meet a old man who was there and forced by the vietcong to be a informant for them against the American military. He was apologizing for doing it to big and rich's friend who had been there. You should check it out even if you don't do a reaction video to it I don't think that you would regret seeing it. Their friend who survived buried the boots he was wearing during the battle in a shell hole from the battle and they drank a toast to the people who didn't survive.

My Dad fought in Korea at the battles of Twin Tunnels and Chipyong-ni. Before they left for Korea they got a pass. One guy was trying to borrow money to go see his girl. Dad gave it to him. Figured he'd never see it again. The guy paid every bit of it back. They were in a foxhole at Chipyong-ni and Dad turned to him, he had been shot in the head. Dad is 89. He still wonders to this day what ever happened to the guy's girl. The soldier was from South Dakota also.
