Very nice. Always liked the Luther Perkins to anyone else.

What is your amp settings for Luther version
@cashfriends9 ай бұрын
I used my Esquire with flatwound strings for Luthers part and plugged it into a Boss FRV-1 pedal. On that I had the mix and dwell on 11 o'clock, tone on 2 o'clock. From there I went straight into my Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb. I think I had my volume at about 4, treble on 7, bass around 1.2 and the amp reverb off. I hope that helps. :)

Very cool. My only nitpick is, on the 90's version, Wootton would bend the F#/2nd fret E string.

Yeah, you're right about that!

Loved Bob Wootton playing the Perkins parts behind Cash. "Man In Black" the best ever (try doing a lesson on that?) Was in the front row right under Wootton at one of his Tennessee Three concerts. He did not play the same, more like Perkins, I ask him after the show why he did not sound quite the same as when he backed Cash, he told me well maybe a little less because He was doing the singing and was trying to remember the words.

my favourite cover of big river is either the san quentin version or the one where cash adds in the 3rd verse that was cut out because it was too long when they recorded it

Luther had a habit of palm muting his strings, as his guitar had no working volume knob (according to Marshall's memoir).

What Amp are you using and what are the settings on the Amp for the 90s version?
@cashfriends11 ай бұрын
I'm using a Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb with a Radial Big Shot PB1 Booster Pedal. To me, that's the key to that slightly distorted sound. On the amp I had my volume at about 4.5, treble at 7, bass at 3 and reverb at 3.5 if I remeber correctly. But I heard Dave Roe (Johnnys bass player in the 90s) say, Bob Wootton played a Fender Twin with all knobs on 10 during that time with no pedals. I never tried that because I didn't want to cause an earthquake... 😅

You should include Reggie Young from the Highwaymen
@msherer26010 ай бұрын
Worst part of seeing the Highwaymen, Reggie Young playing the guitar for Cash, he added too much and did not have the Wootton bounce at all.
