The “carp” at 10:07 is a quill back carp. We stalk them like bone fish on sand flats, Lower Wisconsin River. They form a chain along the banks during the spawn. 2-10 fish thick shoulder to shoulder for 100’s of yards. Cool fish.

I would have reconsidered floating the blown-out water... My understanding is that high muddy water pushes fish to the banks where they don't have to work as hard to hold in feeding positions... In that case, you know exactly where they'll be...

I have a question for you, I'm in Michigan, similar water, what are some of your favorite Flies And colors for Smallies? I have difficulty getting them on my Fly rod....but really do well on my spinning gear. If anyone has some suggestions I would appreciate it. I only get them on Wooly buggers here, I would think my bigger streamers would work, but they haven't been.

I use anything that represents a crawfish or sculpin...I've caught them on Whitlock's near nuff sculpin and near nuff crawfish but really any fly that will imitate those.

That "carp" you caught about 1/2 way into your video, I think, may have been a North American black buffalo fish, or perhaps another type of buffalo fish. I caught one once in the Hennepin canal in Illinois. It took a surface Rapala plug with a popper mouth. They look like carp, but unlike carp they are indigenous to North America. They lack the ubiquitous barbells around the mouth of carp. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_buffalo
