Wonderful, thanks so much for uploading it. I've always thought that Mike Mills was the secret weapon to R.E.M.'s success. But he just looks a little lost up there on stage with no bass!

Thank you for saving me Lord Jesus. Eph 2:8-9 " For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

This is fine, but it's not Big Star, it's guys doing Big Star.

Holy crap, it's the guys from the Posies who played with the reincarnated version of Big Star when Alex was alive, and even contributed songs to the last Big Star album. And it's the Big Star drummer Jody Stevens, who still plays great. Since Alex has passed, perhaps rather than dismissing it, appreciate that Mike Mills doesn't need to sing Big Star songs, especially from the 3rd album, but obviously did this show because of his love for Big Star. These are guys playing songs with and by their heroes. Probably doesn't hurt that Ken Stringfellow (playing the base here) did a number of tours with REM, so they all know each other, and have their own bands they could tour with, but do this type of thing out of their love for Big Star.

i saw Mike in his own big star cover band. somehow everything wonderful becomes what’s all around us. those two sentences fit for me, at least. it’s just like, my opinion or something.

@@gizmoitus I know who they are. But I don't think any of them, including Jody, would call this ensemble "Big Star." When it was Alex and Jody and the two Posies touring as Big Star, yes.

@@dejordyball I doubt seriously there are too many people who would go see a Big Star show, and don't know that Alex died. That's the way it works, when the primary singer/songwriter of the band passes away. Now that Jody is the only surviving member, he can book gigs as Big Star with whomever he wants. With that said, this is more of a legitimate lineup than you suggest, given that the Posies actually recorded and co-wrote all the songs that appeared on the last Big Star record with Alex. There is no replacing Alex, anymore than there was a way to replace Chris Bell. Boston would never be able to replace Brad Delp, but Tom Scholz still tours as Boston, and plays those songs to people who love them. People go see Toto, even though Bobby Kimball hasn't been a member in years, Jeff Porcaro died, and nobody from the original band is still a part of it other than Paich and Lukather. Steely Dan is touring, despite the fact that Walter Becker died in 2017. I guess none of these bands have the right to be touring under their original band names, because that wouldn't be legitimate.

@@gizmoitus Hey, if they called themselves Big Star when they performed this, that's up to Jody not me. I just was talking about the label on this video. I know when I saw Jody and company do their production of Third, they didn't call themselves Big Star.

It's Mike Mills with a backing band - not Big Star. Kristin Hersh's cover (1995) is better. It's on the "Holy Single" ep.

it's the same band that backed alex for the last 20 or so years big star was around. the same band that backed him on big star's last record. and jody's been there since the beginning.
