Thanks again for taking us long on your journey. Part 2 was something. It still won’t deter me from going to temagami.

Really enjoying this series Matt! Your reaction to the squirrel near the end 😂 Funny how this route is so similar to what I've thought about doing in this area, including the hike up the ridge...but I guess the peak has that appeal for a lot of folks! PS Dude get your &*^%ing oral hygiene kit off the shitter! 🤢😆😆

Thanks Jon! Jessica said I was very Kevin Callan in that moment 🤣 Do the route we did in the other direction. It won’t disappoint. For my tooth brushing stuff, I’ve since started putting everything in my pocket 😂

Hi guys your video is so great especially for us since we are doing the exact trip this July. Thanks so much for posting! Can you say how long the drive was down the access road for the first day and how did u keep your meat good (the presidents choice sausage)? Thanks Dave
@MattHaughn Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! The drive down the access road was about 2hrs for us with a low clearance car. If you’re driving an SUV or truck it may be quicker, but it also depends on what shape the road is in (we would say it was in moderate shape for us). As for the sausages, we usually freeze any fresh meat (double ziplocks for leak prevention) we are bringing beforehand and keep it in a cooler for the drive to the access. Once there we wrap it up in some newspaper and try to keep it in the middle of the food bag to stay insulated the best we can. We usually only eat fresh meat on days 1-2, but pushed it to day 3 on this trip. Obviously the longer you push it the more risk you have, but we felt ok with it since the sausages were pre-cooked and we boiled them with the rest of the jambalaya to try and kill anything that might have been growing in that time. Hope this helps and have an amazing trip! 😄🛶🌲

Did you guys keep your feet dry? Temagami is full of bogs and wet portages. Wet feet is a reality there. Also a big step up in terms of challenges and difficulties compared to Algonquin. You guys are doing great. Enjoying the series.
@MattHaughn4 жыл бұрын
Our socks never got dry! Lots of mud and wading. The hardest portages in Algonquin are normal for Temagami!

@@MattHaughn That would be great! I usually take out steak on my first night but then the rest of the nights are store bought dehydrated meals which I don't love.
@MattHaughn4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, store bought dehydrated meals can be hit and miss. Home made is best!
@Hopebay744 жыл бұрын
Matt Haughn yes, and they were hard to find this summer. Unfortunately, I don’t go out enough to invest in a dehydrator.

Matthew and Jessica you are true troopers. Me, I like cottages. LOL. Beautiful scenery but looks like such hard work. LOL. I really enjoy seeing the places you trek to. Stay safe. (Judy) Great job Matthew.

Cottages are great places! They have fridges and a place away from the bugs. But the views are worth the pain. It’s why we do it!

Love those rocky portages in that area. Great video! Surprised you kept the meat that many days. Is it on ice or how are you keeping it from spoiling?
@MattHaughn4 жыл бұрын
The rocks make it so scenic! Great question! We transport the meet in a cooler after freezing the meat and ice packs to -18. When we pack at the access, it’s the last thing to be put in the food back and packed. We wrap it in layers of news paper using two ziplock bags for leakage and put it in with all the other meat (burgers and pre cooked sausages) and that keeps it frozen until the second day. We always cook our meat all the way through to kill the bacteria that would harm us. Most food is still somewhat frozen when taking it out depending on the days temperatures.

Matt Haughn wow impressive. I’ve tried it a few times and can get away with it in spring or fall but not July or August. Thanks for the info. Cheers !
