A little trick you can do to help hold the tap straight is, once you‘ve drilled your hole, chuck up a center punch in your drill press. Most taps have a small dimple in the top. So you can use the center punch point to engage the dimple and hold the tap straight while you hold down tension on the drill press handle. Begin to turn the tap in. Once you get it in a few turns you don’t need it anymore and can just tap the hole as you normally would. You’ll have to use an adjustable wrench or something since you won’t be able to use the ratchet at least at first a anyways.

"Deck lid" is appropriate English term for a rear-engine engine hood. Such a killer project. Amazing all that fit in there. With drive by wire, you have options for so much traction control goodness too. Throw a gyro in there! heh ok ok. Tony is the gyro. He's proven this over the years. Submarine for testing, but you NEED some kinda legitimate airflow, both for cooling (more important!) and engine intake. Some side fins or even a BAJA style air scoop for air inlets would be totally appropriate, and look better than leaving the deck lid off.
