For Sheldon, knowing about American Football has nothing to do with being Texan, his father was the coach of the high school team. He also had Sheldon sit with him and watch the game after school. @@marckempe2143 At 0:49 when asked a direct question, "How do you know this stuff?" Sheldon's response is that he grew up in Texas. He goes on to describe the ubiquity of Football in the state. Yes he never had interest in it himself, constant exposure to it and people familiar with the terminology and rules meant he absorbed the information. What state you are from is definitely relevant to the interests and culture of the people around you and that you are exposed to. And again, nowhere in this scene is it mentioned that his father was a football coach, just that he taught Sheldon about it and tried to create in Sheldon an interest in the game; presumably so they might have a common interest as a means of deepening their relationship.

In an alternate universe, Sheldon grows up to follow in his father's football footsteps, parlaying his love of physics into teaching offensive line as the main position coach and eventual offensive coordinator for the Dallas cowboys

I love how there was a pause for laughter for Howard's joke. But all it comes off as, in story, is that Leonard is actively ignoring him.

Years ago, I was teaching at a high school that had a bunch of kids sign up for football. So many kids that I was voluntold that I had to help coach to ensure we had proper teacher/coach to student ratio. I had zero experience with football, so one of the kids bought me the same book.

Ironic that Sheldon attributes his football knowledge to being from Texas but absolutely no mention of his father being a high school football head coach for the local town where he grew up! Interesting! Edit: that "raccoon craps itself" comment at the end is a hoot & a half! 😂😂😂😂😂👍

To be fair, if Sheldon's father took the angle of how physics, math, clock management, roster composition, salary cap, drafting, and all that factored into the game, he would have loved it!! Football can be as nerdy as you want it to be Also here's my headcanon on who he would root for: considering he's from Galveston, the Houston Oilers were the closest team during his childhood, so his father was probably an Oilers fan, now the Tennesse Titans, so if Sheldon did like football, I think he probably would have rooted for the Titans
