I remember that Nikola released an article, where they talked about how their truck has got a supercomputer inside which powers it. The only problem is, that they said, that it ran on HTML (they claimed, that HTML was the global standard for all programmers). For anyone who doesn't know what that means, HTML is used to make websites. It cannot do anything to do with logic, all it can do is make the visual part of a website. It's like an ostrich, its technically a bird, but it cannot fly or do things that other birds can do. HTML is technically a programming language, but at the same time it can't do any logic or stuff like that, which an actual programming language has.

I decided to look this company up to see what they're up to these days. I was surprised to learn that not only are they still in business, but they're apparently now manufacturing and selling actual electric semi trucks that work and are in active use. Mind you, these are NOT hydrogen-powered (they use conventional batteries, probably lithium-ion) and they promised to deliver "300 to 500" of them this year but have only managed to produce 125 and deliver 111 as of September, but still, I suppose that's a major improvement over rolling non-functional prototypes down a hill. At least they now have a product that exists, is for sale, and works as advertised. Never fear, though, their website says they'll deliver a hydrogen-powered model next year! Only about 7 years after they first presented the technology as basically ready to go! And coincidentally, it will be the same year Tesla plans to release their own (battery powered) electric semi truck! I sense great potential for a sequel to this video.

I hate him for being a swindler, but I also frankly put the vast majority of blame on investors for falling for such stupidity. When investors just want to make sure they aren't the last ones holding a worthless company's stock, rather than actually investing in a company they have properly vetted that has good business fundamentals, then I can only blame the investors in the long run. Companies without a proven track record should not be given valuations in the billions of dollars, and they definitely shouldn't be going public before they have actually managed to create something of value. @KenLinx If investors are incapable of getting proof of legitimacy of a company, they shouldn't invest in that company. For most successful large-scale companies, such proof is easy to find and research. If you can't find "confirmation of legitimacy," maybe don't prop a company up to a $30 billion+ valuation.

Saddest part is, hydrogen cars have a serious potential to help solve global warming, yet they used this a trope to boost their business and stock value, rather than actually making environmental-friendly transport vehicles.
@nadrewod9993 жыл бұрын
Do you understand how VOLATILE and EXPLOSIVE pure hydrogen is? The reason why they have to perform electrolysis on water to separate hydrogen is because H2O is the STABLE FORM OF HYDROGEN: expose enough pure hydrogen to enough oxygen, and you will get a MASSIVE EXPLOSION OF ENERGY, with the main byproducts being water and a few other hydrogen-oxygen mixes. And you want them to put fuel tanks of pure hydrogen not only in a bunch of fuel stations across the country (stations which will almost certainly be located in/around major population centers and/or major traffic routes), but also in lots of BIG SEMI TRUCKS housing BIG FUEL TANKS driving along all of the major streets and highways of America. I don't want a "potential solution to global warming" if it BLOWS UP HALF THE GODDAMN COUNTRY JUST FROM MINOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS!!1!
@candycorn62683 жыл бұрын
Some of them may die, sure. But that's a sacrifice I'm willing to take
@serious_as_cereal3993 жыл бұрын
@@nadrewod999 Hydrogen Would be fantastic for semi trucks, or really lots haul/heavy lifting vehicles, because i dont know if you have heard but batterys are pretty heavy, and very bad for power to weight ratio, thats why i dont think you will be seeing battery powered planes for quite a while(commercially viable plane like a alterenative to a passenger jet.).
@Destroyahx23 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, it has applications in large scale transportation such as trains, or industrial vehicles. This is because the amount of weight you save with hydrogen outweighs the inefficiency of producing it. However we do not have the technology to efficiently convert water into hydrogen then turn that into electricity around 3x more power loss compared to batteries using the power grid. Which mean batteries are more viable to be use in large scale operations like cars, and is better for the environment. Plus, the amount of infrastructure needed to make the consumer car viable similar to gas will take a long time to build up. It is also a lot more volatile than gas as seen by the chemical plant blowing up in CA, then a hydrogen refueling station going up in flames.
@cjk_022213 жыл бұрын
Maybe in specific applications but due to the physics of it being significantly inefficient compared to any electric alternatives. There is simply no way hydrogen will exist where batteries can touch it.

Update according to the wikipedia page for this company: by 2023 they began selling actual (electric) trucks but had to recall them indefinitely due to a string of battery fire incidents. They also began producing hydrogen trucks, but have only sold a little over 100 in the first half of 2024, with only about a dozen refueling stations available at most.

In the modern stock market, hype wins over actual business fundamentals pretty much every time. People invest in whatever seems like it will make them a quick buck, rather than ever ensuring that business fundamentals are solid. People invest in the "future" without really understanding anything about the businesses they invest in, and as a result you see companies valued in the billions which are realistically only worth a fraction of that. Of course, the problem is that this "win" is only for the people who start the companies and early investors that profit from everyone buying in. In the long run these companies often end up not being profitable even remotely to the point that justifies their share value, and the companies either fold - or they become irrelevant. In the process, billions of dollars are siphoned from ignorant "everyday investors" towards the privileged groups that can invest in companies before they go public or who have insider knowledge letting them get out before everything is destroyed. Personally, I think we need to have very strict criminal penalties for people who lie to the point that they raise billions of dollars based on their lies. If they are caught in their lies and actively mislead people to the point many might even be bankrupted, for starters their wealth from that company should be confiscated, and prison time should also be involved. Maybe if there was a risk of actual consequences for such lies, companies would be more careful about them.
