It's like your friends making jokes about one specific thing about you. Yeah, it's a joke at first and everyone's having a nice giggle, but it eventually dies down or they realize that it embarrasses and annoys you so they stop. Except instead of a few friends it's most of the world and it never ends. I really can't imagine anything worse than being recognized everywhere you go as the person who did the dumb thing years ago and no one letting go of that. It's like the kid who played Anakin Skywalker in the The Phantom Menace. No one ever let that go and everywhere he went he was tied to the awful movie and was ridiculed for it.

I was a (quite small) meme at one point. I was the person who made the “Guy turns into Sans” meme. This blew up on iFunny and Instagram and eventually seeped its way into my real life. I had kids in my school telling me that they saw my meme, I had people like iDubbbz and Toby Fox viewing it, and I had people personally harassing me for the video, the worst part is that people didn’t realize the video was fake. The worst part is always the people who don’t get the joke. At one point I had hundreds of DM’s on instagram and most of them were insults like “fat autist” and it really puts into perspective the type of shit these people go through, and this is coming from someone who was a relatively niche meme, can’t imagine what these people really go through.

If you had to choose to save a human toddler or an adult gorilla, which would you pick? Especially with a screaming crowd and TERRIFIED parents. It was a miracle he managed to survive after both the fall and being dragged around like that with minimal injury. In a tense situation where a human child's life is in danger, taking down an animal is far more sensible than prolonging the danger of the child, no matter how fine he was after that. How would they know that the child was uninjured? And tranquilizers don't just drop animal asleep in a heartbeat, they can potentially lash out, endangering the child even more. Ironically here in the internet, in some cases the life of an animal is valued more than the lives of human children. Yes, it has more faults than redeeming qualities, but it is just a game, if people have fun so be it. And yes, it got more popularity than it should have, but it's because it released at the right time when game hate culture was at its weakest, and kids were appealed from the colourful graphics and dumb animations of the game (and shooting people). Still, it really sucks he met this fate. Poor guy...

Memes are people expressing a desire to laugh and have fun. If people start laughing at you, and you do something that makes fun of yourself, you'll be a god damn hero. If you try to defend yourself, you're ruining people's fun, so they will have that fun at your expense. The sanity of one doesn't outweigh the entertainment of millions, so don't lose your sanity over it. If you become a meme, this is important to know.
