I really feel bad for the employees who were abused by these 2 brothers. Seeing people grouping them with these 2 scammers and branding them as scam artists hurts. There's another side story to these employees. Like this video said, they were fresh new-graduates employed from areas with next to no jobs. They had no choice but to try and make the best of what was given. This was their first job. And these 2 brothers knew exactly that. They were underpaid (some had to work for credit, which is BS in my book), forced to work overtime. Not to mention the brothers enforce monetary fines should they do something wrong. Please do not belittle these poor people who were being abused and exploited. The 2 brothers at the top, travelling, living like kings, spending 300k a week are the real bastards here. They lied to their customer's face and forced their underpaid employees to make those lies a reality, which was obviously impossible. Then they went into hiding and make the rest handle the raging mob on release day. The brothers are cowards, like all cruel men.

I think that another reason that zombie games are so prevalent is that they don't need a very sophisticated ai. Or, more accurately, it's easier to program an enemy that has few directives (wander, chase, attack) than an enemy that should be doing much, much more, e.g. analyze battlefield, seize the initiative or employ non-trivial moves. The difference is even wider if you have the survival aspect, where zombies can just stand in one place and wait for a player to discover, but more human-like npcs need to show some semblance of actually living in the game world

A game actually outsold The Day Before on its release day, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, and I find the parallels between them interesting. Owlcat games was founded in 2017, and Fntastic was founded in 2016, however, the main difference between the studios and the games is that Rogue Trader had a clear vision and a consistent schedule for releasing info about the game. We knew exactly what it was, and it was perfectly in line with what Owlcat Games had made before (Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, the latter of which might be my favorite RPG of all time). Rogue Trader had a fantastic launch and is still getting new updates, changes, and even a DLC. It really shows the difference between people who know what they're doing and people who don't.
@ericlamb45013 ай бұрын
You forgot the biggest part though, The Day Before was a scam since it was announced. My theory is that they never planned on actually making a game, just take the money and run, but they failed to do an actual rug pull and stuck around while the inevitable crash and burn happened. Though at least they got cold feet and refunded everyone, they still managed to launder enough money on the side to be set for a while.
@theotv55223 ай бұрын
@@ericlamb4501 they didn’t refund shit. The money was in Valve’s hands and it’s Valve that automatically refunded everyone. Had Valve didn’t step in I wouldn’t be surprised they will take the money and run. In case you didn’t know, any game purchases you make go to Valve first for a period of time, to make sure nothing shady happens, then Valve gets their cut and the remains then be sent to the devs.
