I thinks the return of the grey warden from origins was heavily implied in inquisition with a letter and morrigan's dialogues. And the mission at weisshaupt should have been the culmination of everything, where all your characters would have met. The warden, Hawke, (possibly) the inquisitor and your DA4's protagonist. Saddly, we'll never see this... 😅

If there's ever a next DA game, I wish it starts with a book being closed. We see our Inquisitor, looking at the writer and saying: "Wow, you weren't lying when you said you're not good at writing." The writer is revealed - it's Cassandra, sighing. In the background is Varric, chuckling and saying: "It's a start. But now, let's go and see how we actually stop Solas." Let a girl dream, ok?! 😭

Origins is superior in every way, it has better story, characters, roleplay, replayability, choices and consequences, and lore. Corypheus seeking nothing but power is 1 dimensional, but makes sense for a magister abandoned by the god he deformed himself to try and please (in the promise of godly powers). The elven gods should probably have some stronger feelings about the situation the elves are in, but I guess they just don’t really care that much. At least Corypheus talked about restoring Tevinter and doing some god stuff.

Also, in relation to the secret ending if that's what you're referring to here, it was confirmed by people who have worked on the game that the executors or whatever they're called didn't directly influence anyone they just whispered in their ears and made suggestions but the choices that those people made were still ultimately their choices. That dialogue line stuck out to me too. I'm pretty sure he said he didn't see it as any different than any other form of magic. It was just a means to and end. Even solas's dialogue was really tamped down and simplified even though he's supposed to speak in iambic pentamiter. TBH he has some of the most memorable Dialogue in the series for me personally.

You forgot to mention the two huge plot points that essentially retcon every prior DA game by making them and everything we did in them completely irrelevant and pointless. The evil "illuminati" esque group that were actually controlling everything and every villain since Origins, and the fact that Ferelden, Kirkwall, and Orlais are all completely destroyed by the blight by the end of the game, and they don't even have the decency to show us. Instead just a shitty codex entry. Duncan died for nothing. 0/10 for me

I despise that because it takes away character's agencies by reducing them all to puppets. Loghain was a great antagonist in Origins because, unlike every villain after him and Meredith, he didn't just want power for power's sake. Meredith herself was stern and inflexible but ultimately it was the red lyrium that amplified all the worst aspects of her personality.

Someone made a reddit post where they outline the very lack of lore consistency, especially in the religious/gods aspect. There are no crisis of faith that the gods they worshipped are back. The conclusion was very apparent. The writers don't know the lore, it's like they only asked about it from someone who played the games some time ago.

Seriously you have a whole conversation with one of your companions about this Inquisition. How the Chantry is different how the religion is different how the opinions on blood magic are different. Why does everyone expect things to be the same as the previous games even though this takes place in a completely different location? We're not in the Country Bumpkin South anymore. We're in the advanced north. And yes that is how they worded it in Inquisition. Well I think they actually use the term Backwater for the South but still. For the elves it's a big deal because it's their gods but in the north they had a completely different belief of who and what andraste was than they do in the south

Sorry as a Dragon Age fan i dont share your Opinion about the Ending. Spoilers: I saw the Secret Ending that basically retconned every mayor Villain agenda in the previous Games and it is just bad writing in my opinion. For Example: Loghain: anti Orlesian, brilliant strategist and leader was influenced by a faction, that we think are the Executors, which is why he betrayed Cailan and tried to sieze the throne of Ferelden (or at least it was hinted that this was the reason) And here a quick run down of all the other shit that was shown in the 30sec post credit: Tewinter Mages who entered the Golden City and became the first darkspawn? manipulated Varrics Brother: manipulated War between templars and mages: manipulated War between Solas and the elven gods : unclear if manipulated or if it just a favorable outcome for the faction For me this post-credit scene destroys everything positive about Veilguards ending. This just invalidates every villain and their motivation just to set up a future sequel of the franchise. Edit: added a Spoiler warning, dont want to ruin the fun of others, even if i dislike this game.

I got called all kinds of stuff for saying this game was going to be a pathetic game, it's a certain Reddit crowd that says anything that pushes their message is aa 10 regardless if the game is good, or crap. BG3, and GOW Rag, are probably the only games with the message I consider good, and 2024 keeps trying to shove this Reddit message down our throats lol. Maybe if Bioware just made a deep, mature toned game, not for Reddit children babies. This game would be doing good. From what I can tell, this game flopped bad. 80k on steam is about 6 mil, Steam takes a cut of that. The game was 250 mil, plus marketing usually doubles to about 500 mill. This game lost probably pretty bad, I know EA says otherwise, but the proof is the real thing, not a company that needs to trick you into buying a boring game. Starfield, DA V, Saints Reboot, SW Outlaws. It's AAA minus in gaming now. I own every Mass Effect game, and I have no interest in what this company comes up with. Resident Evil is my home for now, since they don't push barely anything, and their games are fun. GTA 6 said it will push this Reddit Crybaby message, and so will the new Witcher they said it too. Sad for gaming.

And even leaving that aside, nothing convinces Solas that he's wrong. Not Rook, not the Inquisitor (as promised in Trespasser), not any romance, but rather Morrigan swooping down upon him and using Mythal to release him from her service and take away his guilt. And what does he do? Binds himself to the veil and then willingly goes to Fade prison. I'm wondering why Solas chooses to go back to that prison at all rather than just live life in the real world, or go live at the Lighthouse. Like, what the heck? BioWare turned Solas stupid just for this ending. And there's still no option to kill Solas. And don't even get me started on that moronic Executor ending that drags BioWare's taint across the entire series by making each major event some kind of scheme of these mysterious figures from across the sea. And of course our protagonists are turned into idiots in the process. The Inquisitor takes a break from failing to protect the South to tell Rook that the Hero and Champion are also failing to protect the South. Forget this game. It's non-canon. Stick to the Dragon Age trilogy.

I'm surprised to not hear any comment about the "secret" ending *MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD* It really feels like a massive fuck you to the fanbase to suddenly go "All of the major villains and events of the past 3 games were preordained by The Executor's, who were the real villains in the shadows all along." There's no build-up to it, just a little stuff from Inquisition, and it undoes so much fantastic character writing. Loghain didn't need some massive organization to influence him in order to make him do what he did at the Battle of Ostagar. The implication that The Executors influenced the Magisters to try and breach the golden city, and knew everything that would happen following to enough of a point that they even predicted our Inquisition character would end up bearing the Anchor is ridiculous and a slap in the face to long time fans. It, at least for me, discredits whatever good existed within that ending to me. It stands alongside other symptoms of what seems to be an attempt to "reboot" this franchise, such as the dead ends to long plotlines due to a lack of save transfers (we'll never know if the Hero of Fereldan found a cure for the blight), or how they've destroyed almost the entirety of Fereldan and Orlais so that our decisions there cannot and will not ever matter again. It feels like the story being told before doesn't matter anymore to them at all. The only solace I have in this is that I can ignore the existence of this game, I can continue to enjoy the first three as a trilogy and headcanon whatever lies ahead in the future or just accept them as a beautiful self-contained story that never got to see a worthy ending.

For all the hate andromeda gets, the answer is yes. The gameplay, story, tone, and lore of andromeda more closely resembles me1, me2, and me3 than Veilguard resembles origins, da2, and inquisition. And at least andromeda was genuine in its status as a reboot by setting it in an entire different galaxy and time with 0 cameos from previous installments. Veilguard claims it is a direct sequel and not a reboot when it clearly is the latter. I’d go so far as to say Veilguard is more faithful to the mass effect series than it is to any dragon age.

Even if DAV wasn't for me, I think it would fine for what it is. But the fact that they were so determined to erase the first three games (and the south of the continent) makes it incompatible with anyone who values the existing lore and story. I mean that post credit scene was ludicrous. And no, Morrigan becoming Mythal's vessel even if she has a family, didn't drink from the well and specifically said she didn't want that, was definitively not worth saving Solas. IMO the "bad" ending was the best one. But I did quite like the baby griffons.

And now she just is? I had her drink from the well but I can only imagine how pissed she was to learn of being under Flemeths control because of it. Ugh I hated that they killed of Flemeth. Supposedly 10 years non-stop work and planning to stop Solas from destroying the world. When it finally is about to happen only Varic, Harding, and two others are even available (with no actual plan) to stop a god from destroying their world. Why weren't these new companions already helping? Where were all the old heroes/companions? Why did the Inquisitor and Hawke abandon Varic to be the only one to face Solas? Why did the Inquistor send Varic to die? It doesn't make sense with the ending of Trespasser.

I don’t see how BioWare couldn’t make this game with more than one protagonist, being HoF, Hawke and the Inquisitor Imagine this: The main event would be the Inquisitor went to Tevinter to stop Solas. The event could be the same as VG where he/she interrupted Solas’ ritual and ended up releasing evil gods/blight. The HoF could be helping to stop the Blight around Thedas while continuing the quest to find a cure. Hawke could be at Weisshaupt helping other Grey Wardens or defending Kirkwall. Players take turn playing each other similar to GTA V. All/Most of the previous companions also return to the game. Hell, we can even mixed this up (SWTOR did sth similar). HoF could team up with Carver or Bethany and Morrigan, and the Inquisitor could team up with Isabella, Fenris or even Anders.

The particular point you tried to make about necromancy doesn't work. In Dragon Age lore, necromancy works by animating dead bodies with spirits from the fade, it has nothing to do with souls of once living beings; it's gross and some cultures see it as taboo, but it does not have the same dark baggage that necromancy usually does in other games. Dragon Age Inquisition had a necromancer as well, Dorian, who could even teach the Inquisitor how to be a necromancer if they were a mage. The serial killer you mention in Dragon Age 2 used blood magic, not necromancy. That said, yeah, they smoothed out a lot of complex issues and nuance that Dragon Age had been known for in the past...

It's a chore to play tbh. I'm pushing myself to play through it, and that's a bad thing. There are flashes of brilliance, but they are almost immediately snuffed out by ill-timed quips, wooden interactions, and brutal condescending dialogue. Combat is hit or miss, depending on what your preference is for action. Companions are also occasionally interesting, but the combination of preachy dialogue and seeming impossibility to be rude or at odds with anyone in your camp/party makes for few genuine feeling interactions. There are also some storytelling conflicts that make no sense and some plotholes between the game's story and what is considered canon. Veilguard is a low 6 for me. The Andromeda of the DA games. Enjoyable for what it is, but for a DA title, it misses the mark big time imo

I feel like BioWare/EA laid off(fired) everyone who actually cared about the game, so when it came time to actually get the game put together no one left actually cared. Tevinter and Antiva both heavily involve slavery, blood magic, and class systems that could’ve given the game such a dark undertone. Going into the game, the Antivan Crows were the faction I was MOST excited for simply because I’m a Zevran girl through and through yet the faction felt like some kind of “goody two shoes we keep Antiva safe” group rather than the assassins guild they are. They’re a faction that literally buys children and forces them to become perfect assassins or be nerfed, but NO let’s make them all so “SAVE ANTIVA Squad”. Such a let down, they could’ve done so much with the faction 😢 Gods, the one thing I liked a lot about the game was the scenery and character models yet even then those were flawed. The characters were all so smooth, too clean with no grit or personality like inquisition had, and the maps feel cluttered. So many puzzles, caves, challenges, etc all crammed into small maps. I despise going to Arlathan because of how cluttered it is. This game had so much wasted potential it’s sad. The Andromeda or the Dragon Age Franchise.

I refunded the game two hours in. The plan was to pick it up when its on sale for $40, but now it's looking like a $30 purchase for me. I've played action games with more intriguing story lines or better game mechanics. And I got most of those on sale! It's cool that they added so many nobs to customize difficulty but was that a band-aid fix because they couldnt balance their game correctly?

Made it 35 hours in before I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm a HUGE DA fan so obviously I know the lore like the back of my hand so watching them pretty much boil everything down to MUHAHAHA evil or really good people who can do no wrong was driving me insane. There is so much wrong that I couldn't possibly put it all in a single comment nor do I think that I can even get my thoughts in order enough to properly explain all of it right now but I'm just really sad and disappointed.

I get that you probably liked Veilguard and don't like the fact that it's getting alot of hate (alot of it IS unwarrented) but it really just doesn't have the same depth the first 3 did. I WANTED to love Veilguard and I thought that I would since I love all the other Dragon Age games but I kept looking for the thing I loved about the previous entries and it just wasn't there. As for Origins just having black and white characters thats just not true at all Loghain is probably the most obvious example but if you meant that there are just basic evil characters AT ALL then yes of course there is the arls son from the city elf origin story who is even cartoonishly evil. I'm not one of the people who hate the game just because it isn't an Origins copy or think that Origins was perfect haha I replay it every year I KNOW it has issues XD. What I said was just a small part of my issues and an extremely simplified and slightly exaggerated version at that. There are so many people who hate Veilguard for a myriad of reasons just enjoy the game and ignore everyone else who didn't every Dragon Age game has been divisive after all.

24:00 So uh, it gets worse. You only get Dorian's interesting archon quest if you side with Neve over Lucanis in that early choice you make. Otherwise he doesn't even appear until the end-game when he just shows up randomly with the Magister. I didn't even recognize him. I didn't connect that it was Dorian from Inquisition until after I beat the game...

This game baffles me. Not only is its own story not that great along with its diminshed olayer agency, it somehow also maanges to take a massive dump on the other games and the lore. Garbage retconing has been an issue since Bloatquisition but it's taken to the next level with Veilguard. You know the gimmick of world state transfer the studio is known for? Yeah it doesn't matter know because we're lazy morons. You know characters like Loghain who had complex motives? Yeah, he was merely manipulated by generic bigger bad guy group. You know the cool lore, alluded to by the Chantry, about the origin of the blight? Yeah, we somehow made it lame and the chantry version sound a lot more cooler. You know how Archdemons used to be old gods? Naaah, they're merely elven weapons lol. I could go on tbh. It looks like these writers despise the previous games or simply do not understand them. Imo they should completely de-canonise everything post Origins or DA2 and start from there.

The face animation in DA2 looks better than what i’ve seen in clips from DA-V. The acting/writing too seems way better.

Honestly true. I finished in just under 40 hours. Did all companion quests and got all factions to 3 stars. There were a few side quests left unfinished, but at most I think you could get 50 hours out of a playthrough.

I saw the first hour and a half of the game story but sorry it's just so stupid. Just a fact that the whole point of the ritual was to save the world but some people just not communicating it well enough. It's just silly. And then after everything fails saying " now it's your problem, you deal with it" it's just bad storytelling. And by the way, why does the story begin with? " And that's where you come in"? I mean what do you mean that's where I come in? Didn't you just say that you've been hunting this guy for whatever long and you're finally arrived at the place you can stop him. Where did I come from??

Adding a point to the combat. In origins the majority of the enemies you face can use the same skills and spells you do. If you face templars and you are a mage, they will be able to neutralize effects and any of your castings. And even enemies from the same faction would have different classes and specializations. Not only you could make a good party with some diversity and tactics, but every battle you will encounter enemies as diverse as they can be, being equally capable as the players. It was a rpg that needed strategy, but happening in real time, instead of turns

I cannot let myself to settle for "at times" no matter how much nostalgic i feel and been waiting for it. A sale is just a number for them and is taken as an approval that is ok, we still buy it. Not opening my wallet is the only tangible thing i can do to disapprove of what they did with the game from what i've seen on various sources, streams and reviews, and for the future of Mass Effect. Appreciate the takes in the review.

I've been a DA fan since 2011, I've played all the games and read some of the books. I refuse to buy Veilguard. I will admit that I am obtaining it a different way to see what everyone is talking about, but hearing about the access code controversy, the garbage writing and very linear choices... I will not give them my money.

When I finished Inquisition I was never more excited about a DA sequel. Yet here we are, I have 100% all the DA games multiple times. This game... never going to play it. I'll just play more BG3. That is the DA Origins sequel I have been waiting for all these years.

I am so glad you showed clips from previous games. As old as they are it still shows how much better the animating , dialoge and writing is. People who have never played the other games have no idea what they have missed.

It would have been a great choice if you could help Solas tear down the Viel. Then the world can return to the way it was supposed to be in the beginning. But I suppose that is too dark for Disney/Pixar/Bioware/whatever...

I gave up on half the community. People are seriously fighting with me in the comments, claiming how this game is supposedly a masterpiece and wraps up the lore beautifully. 🤨 In reality, this game is like two packs of hot garbage. How did anyone get "masterful lore-telling" from it? Anyone quoting Rook as something profound must be kidding themselves because Rook is hands-down the most basic character ever created! Prove me wrong!

They followed the lore that was established by writers from the last 3 or 4? books. Tbh I have the whole set and you can tell there is a significat difference in the writing of stolen throne, asunder, and the calling when David gaider was still writing dragon age. The last couple of books are not as complex as the ones written by david gaider and tonally the stories can varry in those books because they have multiple different writers each contributing to different chapters in the book. Like there is so much lore that isn't even adressed in this game. My personal question is why Fiona was cured of the blight when she concieved alistair and what ties Marics blood line has to it. Like wtf? Did we forget it was also brought up in Dragon age inquisition if you spoke to Fiona if you recruited the mages.

@@vns_moon Come on now, do you really think they did any research? These are the same people who claimed that Solas trapped the Blight. In fact, it was he who leaked it, according to a rook recounting of events, which is not supported in any way by the books and previous games unless it's necessary for their narrative. Surely, it was in the Golden City before the Magisters entered. Let's disregard "The Sha-Brytol." Titans might have been involved since there's a hint they were somehow Blighted, but what's unclear is whether that's due to The Old Ones or just Red Lyrium running rampant. The whole blood mage cop-out was nonsense because Merrill is living proof that blood magic isn't inherently more evil than other types of magic. Also, consider its major role in Tevinter Imperium, as it's known as the land of blood mages. I won't even delve into how Grey Wardens literally drink darkspawn blood 💀. Since they never addressed that issue, I doubt they'll address Fiona either.

I wanted to like this game, I really did despite all the buzz. The game on PC is honestly imo gorgeous, but I really really can't get past the dialogue. Sometimes its good, but sometimes its just fucking horrendous

Don't tell people to play inquisition first 😅 that game is boring af. It's basically an MMO. Origins only, and 2 has some great characters and ideas but obviously has some big flaws dragging it down. Inquisition and Veilguard ain't even worth glancing at unless you're can buy them for $5

They were probably given an outline of story points for the game and then artistic freedom to fill in the blanks. That’s why the ending could be good as the final plot point they were given, yet the rest of the story doesn’t fit well in the dragon age universe

I went in completely blind, because the teaser trailer broke me and I didn't want to be influenced by all the negativity. I played 67 hours, did all the quests, explored everything and as a long time fan, I can HAPPILY say that this game is horsesh*t. Bad char customization, too linear, too easy puzzles, choices have no real consequence (which means I won't bother playing again because what is the point when it all ends the same no matter what I do....) , dialogs are BAD, darkspawns look cartoonist, no gore, basically no blood, the romance scenes are SERIOUSLY lacking, there's no "what happens after the final battle", the trans stuff is forced down into your throat, you can't really be bad or do the wrong choices, and the majority of the choices you do, are related to which char dies in the final battle.... Yay... I'm sad to see my favourite all time game franchise was completely ruined.... 😞 The ONLY 2 thing I enjoyed was the fact that I could save Solas (I liked him) and I liked the spellblade class. And I agree. Solas was done well and every scene he was in, made me FEEL the dragon age that otherwise wasn't there.
