One thing I wish I would have known before my first playthrough of New Vegas is that the route north of goodsprings is completely safe, and the game is just telling you it isn't, because people would get to New Vegas too quickly via Camp McCarran. The wildlife in that area is completely harmless.

The room in Novac is the best place for storage, multiple containers and a literal safe. Also there is a bed in there and the place is in the central part of the map so you can easily be well rested at all times for +10% increase in XP

i know the novac one is technically better but i really like making wolfhorn ranch my "home" in nv. the fast travel puts you very close to the door, it has pretty much the same amount of storage containers, and the containers inside of the house are a lot closer to each other making sorting easier and faster for me. it also just feels more cozy imo. not having well rested does kinda suck though.

For me on the last tip. I agree on not fighing the Powder Gangers. But for different reasons. Youre locked out of potential early game quests when youre hated by them. So most new players who helps the town never gets the experince of interacting with the Powder faction.

My trick for avoiding being an enemy of the Powder Gangers is not killing them at the end of Ghost Town Gunfight. If you pass all skillchecks the townsfolk are so OP that they kill all bandits without your help. And you can even damage them but as long as you don't personally kill them you gain no infamy with them. You will gain some infamy for completing the quest but this only gets you to shunned. They don't like you but they aren't immediately hostile. You can still go to NCRCF and do quests for them.

The one thing I remember about my first playthrough of New Vegas: On a whim I tried sniping one of the giant radscorpions from the safety of the cemetery. This proved to be a mistake, and in the process of fleeing from it I seemingly gave it the slip and continued as normal...until one point later in the game when I fast-traveled back to Goodsprings and a pissed-off giant radscorpion was right there in the middle of town.

By the end of the game I have stuff in Novac, Old World Blues home base, Dead Money bunker, and dumpster in Goodsprings. What a mess but you end up with more than the vendors can buy and the Dead Money gold bars means selling other stuff is just to clear out inventory.

Number 11.5: Be sure to install the '4gb memory usage' mod. FO:NV is a 32bit program. Thus it can only use 2gb of RAM/VRAM in total at a time. And with the all the cell buffering going on, and very few places that it purges the cell buffers itself; Makes the game very crash happy. Allowing it to use 4gb of RAM/VRAM with the mod, make the game a lot more stable.

If you complete Ghost Town Gun Fight but you hang back and allow the Goodsprings settlers to do all of the fighting, you'll lose affinity with the Powder Gangers but not the same amount you'd lose if you partake in the fight yourself. You'll reach "shunned" status with them but not "vilified", meaning they won't open fire on you on sight. You can then go up to the correctional facility, do some quests for them and raise your reputation with them to a more neutral status.

I just finished my first play through and I actually used that dumpster you mention from the start. I didn't even realize some of the containers reset. The thing that makes that such a great location for a homebase is that you have the crafting benches, Chet to barter with, and Doc can fix you up for 50 caps. Doctors Bag cost more than 50 caps ( Maybe not with high Bartering skill?) and you probably can't make them yet ( again maybe with high Medicine skill?). It takes a while just to where you have all the right ingredients for doctors bags even if you have a high enough skill. Also, you can pick the Intense Training perk more than once. You can even pick the same stat more than once if you're so inclined. Edit: There's also a Mojave Express directly beside the dumpster. You can literally ship stuff directly to your storage area without needing to travel yourself. Allowing you to continue what you were doing without getting bogged down in the inventory management mini game. Encumbered? Not anymore. Deal with it later.

The best thing to do is to discover the Mojave Express box outside Chet's store, then run down the road to Primm to (a) get the fast travel point so you can bypass all the Powder Gangers once you've pissed them off and (b) discover the Mojave Express box inside the Mojave Express office. After that, you can just mail your excess loot from one town to the other for free then pick it up at will, take whatever you need, and mail the rest to the other town. This is also one of the reasons why I choose the motel room in Novac as my permanent base (I can just ship all my loot there once I've discovered the box in the motel office and only have to be overencumbered between there and my room, which is much shorter than the walk from the Strip box to the Lucky 38, the Tops, or Sarah's hotel, or from the Freeside box to the Atomic Wrangler).

It's one of those things, like setting hotkeys, that the manual just doesn't explain (assuming Bethesda even provided you with the manual, which they don't if you buy it from GOG).

Another thing to add about postponing Ghost Town Gunfight. If you go to the prison, you can get a series of small quests from the Powder Ganger leader Eddie called I Fought The Law. If you complete that quest, which gives you access to a few NPCs that you otherwise will never encounter, giving opportunities for dialogue checks and combat for more xp, by betraying Eddie to the NCR, you can then go back to Goodsprings for Ghost Town Gunfight with no penalty. You can further maximize xp gain by silently killing all the Powder Gangers in the prison before the NCR takes the prison back so you don’t end up competing with them for kills at the end of I Fought The Law.

There are several (3-4) boxes between the prospector's saloon and the general store at Goodsprings, right after the two benches against a wall of the general store. Their contains never reset and it will allow you to separate your stuff like weapons, armor, miscellaneous items or whatever you want to separate, for quicker look up. Especially if you have tons of stuff. On the other hand you can use filters.

Location triggers that don't work will suddenly work if you sit on something. Like the one in Camp McCarran. You enter the door of the monorail building and then sit on one of the seats if it doesn't trigger.

1. Jury rigging COULD be necessary unless you’re NCR neutral/allied and are smart with money in order to save a perk slot. 2. Sell what you can’t carry, no wonder you can’t afford repairs 3. When you put on faction outfits for the first time, a giant dialog box explains how all of it works. 4. Yeah you can mess these up pretty bad especially with arcade gannon, however I believe that you can’t soft lock the game, there should always be enough gannon triggers left to be able to look it up online. 5. When attempting to equip power armor a dialog box will explain that you lack the necessary training to equip. The training is naturally received in the bunker full of people wearing the same armor. 6. I think that I would rather know things like when it says agility affects “speed” it means reload and not walking. Or that perception affects neither accuracy nor compass range despite it saying so on the machine. 7. I can say I wish I knew this before I played the game. Well played, Big Dan.

So, regarding Jury Rigging: Sure, it's great. I'm a habitual Jury Rigger myself. It's not the only option, though. Honestly, it's QoL if you want all your perks to really matter, 'cause a trash goblin has plenty of Repair Kits and Caps, and a Hustler gets by. All you have to know, is which Vendors that do full repairs. I'm not usually up for the grind, though, so like I said; I go for the Jury Rigging as well.

Im on my 3rd playthrough of this game and i always have used the abandoned shack next to the yangtzee memorial as a loot storage building. Theres an ammo box in there, i have put things in it and never had it reset on me but idk it possibly may. Theres also a first aid box, a reloading bench and even a bed you can sleep in. Ive always dumped off thousands of lbs in loot in this shack and it never disappears

Here’s a tip. The repair-man sittning by the desk of the Mojave Outpost has 100 repair skill. You can repair items to full health instantly for a hefty cost, but you can also steal the money used for those repairs. Meaning, combined with Jury Rigging this is a great method for making gold. Save cheap guns to use as repair-material, repair all the cheap material and steal back the gold, then use the full health cheap guns as repair-material for more expensive weapons. You’ll make tons and tons of gold if you’ve collected weapons for a while. Another tip to remain within the good graces of the Power Gangers: Do the Goodsprings-quest, and quicksave before the fight. Try to get each of the gangers down to around 10% hp, then let the towns-folk finish them off. You'll remain Shunned, and will be neutral with the gangers. Another idea which will help you even if you have reached Hated or Villified is that you can do the Nipton-quest and enter the Nipton General Store. Inside of the building sits Boxcars, a paralyzed Powder-Ganger who you can give MedX to for positive karma and reputation with the gangers. He will also tell you that some of the other gangers had been taken as hostages and are being held prisoner, and so starts the quest to save them. They are being held at a Legion-camp, and you can stealth-kill all of the captors to avoid reputation-damage with the Legion. What I usually do is this: I do the quest to find the captives, at a time where I am neutral with the Legion. They will not attack me, and I can easily stealth-kill all of them and remain neutral. At this point I usually have Boone with me, but if I bring him along the legionnaires will attack on sight. So: I make Boone stay a good distance away, end all the legionnaires, run and get Boone, and run back to the captives. When you let the Powder Gangers out of their chains and Boone is there with you, you will get 2 trust-points with Boone for his companion-quest.

I suddenly had a robot companion with weapons and Raul. It's quite amazing believing post apocalyse and now the music soundtrack is a nurological program.

I have always used the speech check glitch from the run good springs run quest. Kill ringo for cob then agree to get supplies then kill the powder gangers. Infinite speech check at the merchant in the general store. I did 10 levels right at the start

I always visit Primm first to start the quest for the town to get a new sheriff, before I start my assault on the Powder Gangers. That way, I can safely enter the prison to recruit the human sheriff dude. (I've never been a Primm Slim kinda guy lol.) Then, I go back and help the town lay waste to Cobb and the rest. Again, not that the dynamite-chuckers are necessarily difficult to defeat, but it makes it a lot easier. Just my own approach.

4:45 Dan you forgot to mention that the implants do not work for Perk requirements. For example, if you have 7 STR and increase to 8 through the implants, you wont be able to take a perk that demands 8 STR, only intense training will work that way. I discovered this when I took an implant to increase my AGL to 6 for the Sniper perk, but it didnt work with the Implant, then I took Intense training and it did. The implants will work for Speech Checks, Weapon Requirements and Enviroment Interactions, but not for Perk Requirements.

You are plain wrong, implants act as a permanent upgrade, not temporary. So they affect the perk choice. You either had some mod installed that affected the balance of the game, encountered a bug or just did not notice that you had a temporary point (from armor etc.) so implant did not affect the perk choice.

You can double check it, implants work as permanent buffs as opposed to perk increase, they don't count towards the base perk amount for perk requirements, they work for speech checks, weapon requirements, etc. if you have 5 PER and increase it to 6 to get Sniper Perk through implants, it won't count.

If you do not consider (multiple) wikies a valid source, please post a video of unmodded run where the implant did not unlock the choice for you. At first comment you mentioned you increased agility and it didnt work. However, at the second comment you mention perception. Which one is it for you then? Perhaps you picked "Four Eyes" trait which gives you a PERMANENT -1 to perception, which actually affects the perk choices?

The crashing is what made my playthrough a bit rough and sometimes very unenjoyable.. The most crashes ive found myself in are definitely in the casino where Benny is located, my first playtrough was a bit chaotic, so i killed Benny right away and everytime from that moment i engaged combat in the building, the game just crashed. Ever since i ''spared'' Benny and killed him in the arena where Ceasar is located, the game would never crash since then, pretty weird if you ask me

So far I've been pretty meticulous about my faction armors bit actually the glitch happened where is didn't register taking off the armor so like major of npcs were instantly hostile on site. The fix I read that worked for me was take off said faction armor on and off without swapping armors. Just took a bit cause I just didn't know which armor it was glitches on.

Jury Rigging is nice but not necessary, 50 repair is the minimum for crafting weapon repair kits and they can carry you through high drain ammo and weapons. Of course without mods there are no Armor Repair Kits, which is where jury Rigging will be very helpful. Especially if you want to use power armor since they're expensive and rare Edit: also forgot you can buy infinite weapon repair kits from the sierra Madre machine after Dead Money

Jury rigging is not strictly necessary as long as you keep scavenging scrap metal, scrap electronics, duct tape, wonderglue and wrenches to craft weapon repair kits. Granted, the scavenging playstyle can feel a little tedious for some, so Jury Rigging is there for convenience.

When assassians come after you if you equip a set of legion armor then an ncr ranger troop spawns and attacks you even with amazing standing with ncr. I was caught off guard and didnt have time to travel so i equip the legion armor to try to blend in. All of a sudden ncr rangers came after a bounty on my head.

so im a little confused on something, ive got hundereds of hours in new vegas and i have never once experienced a container respawning its contents? even if its an area i havent gone to in weeks in game. I wish I knew how to play the hacking mini game in my first playthrough. What you do is remove all the duds first instead of guessing words and exiting out then going back in the computer

You get four 'lives' to find the correct password. Try three attempts THEN remove the duds as you sometimes get an 'attempts replenished' which resets your lives back to four.

About the last tip, can't you just put on a Powder Ganger armor that will reset the reputation with them? P.S. I tested things out because I felt my question was a good one and I can report that you can be Vilified with the PG, put on one of their armor and the guys patrolling the roads won't bother you. If you try to enter the NCR prison, though, the guy outside will become hostile and aggro the other guards against you, too. Even if you sneak inside in some way, the generic Powder Gangers won't bother you but the named ones (except Meyers) will become hostile as soon as they see you.

Few things to note charisma is pointless just level up barter and speech, intelligence and perception are the bigger stats you want to focus on. If you play on console be careful it’s very buggy and only really worth it for the dlc. Play on PC if you can, this game really benefits from mods. The dlc should only be played at certain levels. Also fyi the game at times tends to be a left stick simulator.

Perception is only useful for perks. So getting to 6 or 7 Perception is all you need. Perception only increases the distance at which enemies are marked on your compass (literally ED-E's perk is better). The universally useful stats are: Strength: for carry weight Endurance: health and resistances Intelligence: skill points Luck: critical chance Agility increases reload speed and action points, so it's kinda useful. Perception is useless but has good perks attached to it. Charisma is useless and has bad perks attached to it.

If you don't mind kind of cheating as it is a glitch in the game you can use the skilled perk with the character reset using the pip boy glitch to get a massive bonus in skill points Usually do it 6 times for a total bonus of 455 skill points so you won't have to bother with the educated or comprehension perk or even the skill books unless you want to because if you do that and build a character with an intelligence of 6 over 49 levels you will get a total of 637 points for your skills but after doing that glitch you will only need a further 577 points to max out all as skills and if you build the character right at the start your lowest skill will have at least 50 points in it and the highest ones nearly 70 points

Dont follow tip 2. If you know what you're doing, by level 6, you'll have the penthouse at the lucky 38 and will have found the gun runners merchant. Their inventory resets on Wednesday's and Sunday's, use the wait button and skip to either day, and then sell your stuff.
