Bought the compact star 400 in .177 after watching your review. As usual you where bang on with the trigger. Mine I had to slightly slacken off the barrel pivot as it was difficult to brake the barrel. Oiled up the pivot's and give it a go. Well impressed with the performance & accuracy. Chronograph it, is doing about 11.4 spot on & not pellet fussy. Keep up you honest reviews, shooter's love the information you share.

Another decent review Dan, I have several HW springers but these shoot just as well, OK the Record trigger does beat the USC but after a bit of tweaking the Cometa trigger shoots just as good

Hey Baz! They're such an underrated little rifle aren't they? The Rekord trigger is still the best in the market in my opinion but as you've said you can tweak this little unit until it gets really close. When I reviewed the Fusion with the trigger still in standard configuration off memory I think we got a 5p group at 40 yards. You'd need a damn good HW to match that! Lovely gun , but can I just say I like the tractor . My first Springer airgun ( from way back in time was the cometa 300) it was a great introduction into spring guns ,I then had a hw k 77 under lever , great gun , the trigger reach was awkward ,so I then went for a BSA lightening XL ,fantastic ,and finally I brought an air arms tx 200 HC and that's was me sold on air arms under levers to this day , I now own a 177 tx 200 hc with walnut stock , that's the only Springer I have , I own a few pcps ,but I'm holding off on buying anything new until I find out if BSA are going to bring out a side lever update to the r 10 this year , but I've got my eye on those reximex rifles after watching your reviews .

Again a GREAT review Dan! It struck me that on cocking, the sear engagement is very silent. Is it still positive? I could not see whether the breech has a wedge or ball bearing lock up? Also, it would be nice to know the effective barrel length (or moderator "overhang") and OAL length. Looking at Cometa's catalogue, this version is only for the UK which is an absolute shame! Would like a 177 version for the continent as well. Maybe this is an UK importer special....Keep well and have a definite recovery.

Hi Hendrick! I'm glad you enjoyed the review. The Cometa's all use a ball bearing lock up. When I get a spare moment I'll get the measurements for you. It's a shame if it is a UK only model as they're a lovely little gun to shoot. Perhaps not as smooth as the Fusion but considering how light and short these rifles are it's still a brilliantly sweet little shooter.

Hi Stephen! The USC is a fantastic gun, the Cometa's in general are superb. The Milbro pellets are budget affairs but I will say they're usually pretty food especially the Selects! It's well worth buying a tin and trying them out.

Having never had any luck with the accuracy of any pointed pellet, I tried some old and corroded Superpoint pellets out of my beautiful old 124D the other day, and lo and behold they shot every bit as good as the JSB 8.44 that I have been using. Are these little rifles available for sale anywhere in the U.S.?

Dan firstly thanks for all your work me and my son love your videos! (videos showing my age here!!lol)is there a reason every online gun shop apart from yourself doesn't seem to have the fusion in stock? I'm going to buy one somehow ! Was in between the sabre and the fenic but that kinda accuracy cant be ignored can't believe how underated these rifles are! Will needs to take a look at the trigger then I recon sky is the limit for cometa!

Hahaha oh yes mate tell me about it. When I do a few PCP videos in a row and then go back to springers they kick my arse for an hour or two until I can get back into the swing of things. I absolutely love them but I really hate them sometimes too haha. The 95 is a great rifle mate once you get the hang of it you'll be stacking pellets.

95's a great rifle in .177,I do wish I'd detuned mine took forever to settle but I could take the heads off matches at 30 yards! I did buy a Cometa 300s carbine which made me trade the 95 for a Bsa Ultra .22,when the RFA tested the 95 it was doing 12.4 ft-lb. I cut my teeth tuning on the 300s ,trigger Sears included, incredible rifle and handling! Years later bought a hw80 in .177 an detuned to 10.3 ft-lb Lazer accurate which made me want another 95 as it's better handling than the 80. Summary:- detune it,you won't pick up the PCP for a long while!

Dan, can a scope be mounted with the mount right on top of the "inspection" hole in the action tube where the sear / safety is visible ? Or does it interfere with a mount in some way ? AND, How does that open space fare with grit etc. coming down into it?

I’ve just bought one of these but the when I opened the box there was nothing other than the gun - no Allen key for stock adjustment or owner’s manual so Hendricks question remains - what are the tiny holes on top of the breech for - I too assumed they were for an arrestor pin that locates into one of the holes from a rear scope mount but that would seem to interfere with the operation of the safety catch which you can see sliding beneath the hole as the safety catch is moved to “on/off”. I’m really impressed with the build quality and I really didn’t want another HW springer - I’ve been shooting those since they took over from my beloved Airsporters + Webley Mk 3 in the 1960’s. So! what is the purpose of those 4 little holes in the top of the breech?

Have been watching quite a few of your videos and your approach to a review is brilliant 👌 . I am currently considering buying a new air rifle after many years out of the sport . Was considering starting with an hw99s to start but after seeing this rifle it has changed my mind. What woukd you go for , the hw99s or this cometa fenix?.. regards from an old air gunner returning to the sport👍

Hi Capricorn! For starters welcome back. It's a tricky one as both are excellent rifles. I personally prefer the USC as I always root for the underdog but the HW99s does have a better trigger (although barely if the Cometa is set up correctly) and you may find it easier to cock due to the longer barrel. That said the Cometa is lighter and despite this has comparable recoil. It also doesn't twang like the HW99 will and it can come with a multitude of stock options and even with a walnut adjustable stock it will still be cheaper than a 99s in standard beech. As an alternative I very highly recommend the Cometa Fusion, it's incredibly easy to shoot and cock with the longer barrel and once again can be had at the same price as the 99s but come with an adjustable walnut or beech stock. Is the moderator removable if you want to replace it with something else ? Literally picked one up just a few hours ago and yet to clean the barrel before sorting out which pellet it prefers (.177). I had set out to buy a 99s ( I’ve had them before ) but was genuinely intrigued by this little rifle as soon as I picked it up - it feels a bit special / different but definitely quality - well, I’ll soon know if I’m right about that but the reviews I’ve read have all rated it highly. I’m new to your channel but that was a good review and I’ll be watching again. Great stuff.

I'm thinking about picking up a .22 for knocking about the yard. Bit put off by the plastic trigger what's your experience of it? I've had a walther rm8 uc and that had a plastic trigger on it but felt solid.

Hi David! I'm my opinion no plastic is good plastic but this plastic ain't bad! It's more refined than the blade on the RM8 and to me feels better finished. With the amount of adjustability on offer with the Cometa trigger you can also set the trigger to be basically however you want it to be. That said if we can get our metal triggers done in time I'll let you know if we can retrofit a metal unit for you. Thanks David and all the best.

Does the suppressor on the USC version make much difference compared to the long barrel unsuppressed version as far as noise? Usually suppressors do not do much for sound reduction with springers so I am curious as I am getting ready to buy an FAC 400 and trying to decide on which version. Thanks!! Love your videos.

Big Dan, I really enjoy your videos but please allow me to make a suggestion.. Would you consider backing-up your targets with something other than a stick when its windy. I realize you want your audience to see how windy it is but, a small piece of wool, ribbon or whatever would better show conditions while allowing a stable target for you to shoot and the subscriber to watch. Hi Peter! The UK rifles are limited to 12ft-lbs and I believe have a slightly tighter transfer port compared to the full fat models and of course a stronger spring.

I had a look at these at the Great British Shooting Show. And aesthetically they were the equal of Weihrauch's and far better than the tat Gamo / BSA puts out. We need to see an underlever or even betterer a sidelever from them. EDIT: In terms of springers. :)

@@clangerbasher They do indeed but I'm torn between the beech and the walnut.. normally I'd take walnut every day but the dot style checkering is superb on the Fusion. A new sidelever would be excellent as sadly there aren't many on the market these days. I think if Webley made a new sidelever it'd sell like hot cakes simply due to nostalgia.

The triggers were absolutely abysmal and utterly unusable - an issue known to exist for very many years but never truly resolved. Do your research before you buy one or you too may well suffer the consequences of believing the hype just as I did. There are way better airguns out there …..

Hi Otto! The USC has an automatic safety system that will stop the barrel from flying up but no anti bear trap system other than that.

Hi Rosie. I'm sorry to hear this but when you say utterly abysmal and unusable in which way do you mean this? I mentioned in the video that they can be gritty out of the box but as you can see after a few minutes adjusting them they're transformed. They're not on the same level as a Rekord but they're not far behind at all. Thanks Rosie and I hope this helps.
