Great review Dan - you've convinced me that this rifle should be my first forray into PCP rifle ownership, so just taken the plunge. After much trawling through various videos of Krals, other Reximexs', JTS etc this seems like the pick of the bunch for a classically styled hunting type rifle at the price point. In the end it was a close run between this and the JTS Airacuda Max, which does look very nice, but I thought the slightly less elegant beech stock on it, and the well-documented moderator issues it has, put the Pretensis in first place. Keep the great content coming.

Thanks bud! You can't go wrong with the Pretensis they're brilliantly accurate and well made rifles. I do like the look of the Airacuda though it's a shame to hear they may have a few hiccups. That said a silencer clipping issue isn't the end of the world.. do you know if anyone has tried one with an aftermarket silencer?

@@bigdansairguns83 as far as I can establish from what I've read, it's to do with the UNF thread on the end of the barrel: the problem being that it's incorrectly cut (potentially a difference between imperial and metric measurement mixup?) - whatever the root cause, the incorrectly cut threads result in a moderator not fitting correctly and making the thing into a shotgun, apparently.

Not really interested in a PCP so that is why I am late to this review but your enthusiasm for this gun will probably have me looking at more reviews of this especially in .22 with the tactical stock...not that the walnut stock doesn't look great!

Spend 20 minutes working on the trigger mechanism and the trigger becomes very crisp and no creep. I love this rifle and now I have sorted the trigger it's second to nothing.

hi dan ive just been and bought one not set ir up yet ive not had a gun for five years watching your video put me in mind of when i first joined our local air gun club i only had an airarms 400 the lads used to say get yourself a dedicated ft rifle as i did a few times much to wifes moans the point is i went round the ft course with that 400 and shot 29 out of thirty that too was an unregulated rifle

Nice rifle, it has a look of the airarms s510, have you ever though of using any of the lead free ammo I have been getting incredible accuracy from my hw rifles using them out to 30 yards which is as far as my eyes let me these days I can shoot further at the range but I keep it to 30yards hunting, you maybe surprised at how good they are the don't suit all barrels but the hw rifles seem to love them.

Hi Robert! I have indeed I've used the JSB lead free .177's and they're better than the lead version in my tuned M22, it's genuinely pellet on pellet at 30 and sub 5p at 50 yards but you need an absolutely wind free day. Another customer of mine had a .25 Scorpion and only fed it lead free JSB, brilliantly accurate but .25's don't dig into wood but bounce back haha.

Reximex certainly appear to be serious about the PCP market in the UK , I'm definitley keeping my eye on them, And as I've mentioned before , that is a lovely tractor .

Reximex are really showing what budget rifles can truly be capable of which is why they're quickly becoming my favourite PCP brand. There's barely any weakness with the Pretensis that I can point out and nitpick on camera..which slightly annoys me if I'm honest haha. That Ford sounds absolutely beautiful, it can shift too as it has the 40k gearbox.

Hi Micheal! I've heard nothing but positive feedback about the Pretensis in all calibres to be fair with not a single complaint thus far. The only issue I've seen was a mag that didn't cycle correctly which we noticed during our testing before the customer picked up the rifle. Needless to say it's an absolutely fantastic air rifle.

Hey Chris. It's a tricky one for me to answer as I can only speak of my experiences but I've never had an underpowered Pretensis. The only issue the Pretensis has had in the past is the barrel choke being too tight but this was sorted batches ago. If you're looking at a used rifle see if you can use a pull through kit and see if it snags on the choke. If it's excessive it's too tight. Thanks Chris and I'm sorry I can't be of any more help.

Those spitfires are good pellets , SMK seems to of choose a different manufacturer to produce the spitfire pellets now , They are not the same pellets they where 5 years ago , I get very good results with them out of my BSA scorpion and kral NPO2. For the price a tin of SMK spitfire costs they are fantastic for a bit of plinking and informal target shooting. As long as SMK keep them at the same price they are SMK are on to a winner with the redesigned spitfire pellets. Makes you think 🤔 if a manufacturer can make a rifle like this and charge under £500 and let's face its not just this rifle over the last couple of years the market has been flooded with sub £500 rifles like kral ect which are pretty decent guns how do other manufacturer justify charging £1500 plus for there rifles. I really like your channel as you review guns that are affordable , gets a little boring when people keep reviewing guns that cost £1500 plus I just wouldn't spend that on a air rifle. I get why people do as I would spend that on a firearm I wanted , but not on a sub 12ft pd Air rifle I can't see in the sub 12ft pd category that a £1500 would be that much better than say a £600 BSA Scorpion , I image in the world of FAC air rifles there is more of a performance difference in the power , range and accuracy between a £600 rifle and a £1500 rifle however in the 12ft pd category you are limited to want you really can get out of a rifle when you get to certain point of range and accuracy.

Hey mate. Great comment and I do agree. Considering the accuracy that budget rifles can provide these days there's almost zero reason in my opinion to spend stupid money on a rifle. The original Achilles heel of budget PCP's was the trigger and then the stocks. Lately however Artemis, Kral and Reximex however have released rifles with stonking triggers and have also retrofitted original models with their new match type trigger unit. The last untold frontier for budget PCP's was adjustability but with the new Reximex Ixia even that is being utilized with "budget" rifles. Our Reximex Pretensis that we had on test would outshoot most £1000+ rifles and I have no doubts about that.

Very nice rifle I am curious you say the cocking is smooth Dan, I have a Kral Jumbo and the cocking arm flops around like a fish out of water when the biathlon cocking arm is fully drawn back. It absolutely drives me nuts, I am interested in this one now but I wouldn't want another one like that.

Hi Jim! Do you mean there's a ton of play in the cocking arm? You can fix that by fitting a washer to the cocking arm making it rock solid. Off memory I don't remember the Pretensis having any play. That said if you had one from us and it had any wobble out of the box I'd sort it for you. It's nothing game breaking but I know what you mean it can get annoying.

Other than that it will shoot with much more expensive rifles.

The gun reminds me of the LOGUN EAGLE. It had a safety button just the same through the stock. I still have a Logun pro mk1 and two Logun solos in .22 .177.

Mine in .177 also likes the Spitfires but is low on ft/lb using them, tried the JSB test pellets not so good accuracy wise as the spitfires and still only getting 10.54 ft/lb on the JSB Exact Heavies 10.34 gr. Power level was turned to max! are there any ways to adjust the hammer spring to get up into the mid 11 ft/lb range on these rifles?

Hi Neil! It should definitely be hotter than that.. if it's doing only 10.54ft-lbs using Heavies then its probably only doing 9ft-lbs with other pellets. If you bought the rifle new contact your RFD.

We used a piece of wood to shake things up a bit as to be honest we got bored of punching paper. As for the accuracy the Pretensis will match/beat anything out there. The grouping at 40+ yards was the size of my little fingernail and that's outside. Let's see how many premium brands can do that out of the box. 😉

I hope you get your hands on the Air Venturi/Nova Vista/Avenger Bullpup. I would suggest.22 over .25 since most likely your going to be subjected to sub12 FPE guns🤢🤢🤢🤮😞🤷‍♂️ but to each their own. So sorry but not a huge fan of .177 in sub 12 or even FAC due to weight and how badly it gets pushed around in the win so I stay mostly with .22-.25 calibers. Please…no disrespect at all but FAC is what I’m allowed…what would you chose to be fair? I am very lucky and privileged to be allowed to use FAC here in Pennsylvania USA. Thank goodness for that. My .22 AVA Bullpup FAC with 22 grain FX Hybrids @945 FPS snatches groundhogs at 70 yards like nothing with head shots and totally switched off. Looking forward to your review even if it is not FAC. Shoots just like the Liberty/Alpha. Same barrel to be honest. Great/best value for the money imho. I now own 5 from .177-25 and love them more than some guns I paid 3-4Xs as much for🤷‍♂️💯.
