Very nice to see that some of these old school brands have stayed true to their roots and are still building amps that live up to their spec sheets. I was huge into car audio in the 90s as a teen and I remember Rockford being one of the biggest names back then. It’s nice to see that they still make solid products today even though car audio is nowhere near as hot as it was back in the 90s.

I've been very happy with this amp. Small size, big power, not many bucks. I don't stress it out very much and the bass knob is conveniently mounted right next to my seat in the center console storage bin.

I personally run this exact amp with 2 10" Rockford punch p1s with a custom ported box for my single cab silverado and it sounds so clean and hits hard. 4 years and 0 problems. I have a son that just turned 16 and was going to purchase the same amp but couldnt find it. Bought him a Skar 500 mono instead.Had his stereo installed today! Ill do the rest myself. My 18yr old runs the 500 mono Alpine and 2 12 rockford punches and sound amazing and waitn til xmas to hear the Skar with a 12 Rockford punch so im so Damn excited and cant wait!! Im as excited as Ian and am so glad my boys are Bass heads like the rest of us!!

People sleep on these 500w amps. They don't realize just how loud they really can get. Not only that, the low current draw these have over the surfboards add savings over the long term because they are easier on the car's electrical system. Alpine, RF, Kicker, JL. All of em will do a fantastic job on a pair of 12s and wont break the bank doing it.

I ran two of these on a completely stock electrical at 2 ohms a piece and barely got any headlight dim! And I ran them pretty much full tilt for three years with absolutely no problems. And the protection network is amazing! Great amp for a noob!

I have 2 1200.1 primes, one in my car and the other for a portable stereo for the boat and camping. Both work great. I actually messed up one day and crossed the positive and ground, killed the amp. Called RockFord told them what I did and they covered it under warranty. GOOD LOOKING OUT FOR A BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART. Rockford rocks!!!

Mine is rated at 643 watts and I have 2 4ohm alpine dvc type R and a Rockford 4 ohm p1 15, total of 800 watts running at 2 ohms and this amp makes them pound. Even at current price it's still a great buy. Thanks for making this vid 👍👍

I have a JL jx500.1. Not the 500.1d. I bought in 2012 and it was already discontinued at that point. I'm still bumping this bad boy today. Keep in mind I wasn't using it this whole time, but I used it a LOT...it still works just fine and goes in and out of protect mode when It needs to. Yes it is more expensive(obviously) but when it lasts this long with this kind of quality...its worth every penny!

I had my Prime R500x1D since 15', been on 1 ohm for many years. It finally died quietly powering a home theater sub at 4 ohms. My conclusion, one of the mosfets finally gave up. It's had a good run and they are great amps! Birth sheet claimed 640 watts rms at 2 ohm.

I bought this exact amp 2 years ago.... It melted 61, yes 61, 12 inch speakers. I was only using two 12 inch speakers at a time. Speakers only lasted 15 minutes up to 2 weeks at a time. Kicker Comp R 12 inch speakers SOLVED the problem. During the 61 fails, ALL brands of speakers were used and failed miserably. Because of this, i only use Kicker speakers with my Rockford Fosgate Amp. Speakers are STILL hitt'n hard and no failures.

This has to be the most ridiculous post I've ever seen. bro there are plenty of entry level subwoofers that are not to kicker that won't burn up off a 500 watt amp. You need to get an ocilloscope or SMD distortion detector and check your gains because I have a feeling you're clipping your subwoofers to death if you burnt 61 of them.

Purple Haze FFC I’ve never been disappointed with Rockford. I think the two amps were a bit more expensive than some of the other amps I was considering but I can remember switching between them in the showroom and I just thought they sounded better.

I had the old rockford prime 500d when they first came out. Paid $250 for it. Would run 2ohm all day no problems. Would run 1ohm on cooler days but got hot AF. It was also a much larger amp case wise.

I have this amp in my truck. It's powering a Pioneer shallow mount 10 in a small wedge shape box. It's a great little amp. My only complaint is the blue LED on the remote knob is stupid bright. A small piece of electrical tape fixed that.

I think it's solid little amp and I honestly like it better than the Alpine. It seem to be more dynamic in it lower bass notes. Both sound great on the JL audio daul 12 prefab sub system that my customer perchased from Best Buy. The Alpine was a left for me to sale by another customer whom had a 82 C10 project that never happened fue to him selling the truck before the install😏 Thanks for the test...both are nice small amps.

I want to connect this to a factory audio system and use high level outputs from one of the speakers in the back of the vehicle. Since I don't have an aftermarket head unit, there's no way to use an amp remote turn on. Will this amp turn on by itself when it detects a high level speaker input or does it require the remote turn on lead to have power?

There’s a couple really nice line output converters on the market with signal sensing that can provide a remote turn on voltage to your amp. Like the Audio Control LC2i 2.

Finally!!!! I waited over a year for this review! I bought one of these for 130 bucks brand new. Birth sheet said 629 watts for mine. It flexes the hell out of my mtx subs lol. That LED light on the bass/level knob is hella bright. Mount it where it isn’t gonna shine at you. Looks can be a bit on the plain side but these are hidden most of the time anyway

I bought this amp to replace my jl audio 600/1v3 and drive my single jl audio 12w6v3. This 500 paperwork said it put out 643 peak but never really worked as well as I expected due to some distortion at higher loads, that I couldn't adjust out without turning down the power all together, which was UNACCEPTABLE. So, I bought the next higher power RF amp, the Prime 750, and it solved the problem. The 750 has an additional adjustment that the 500 doesn't, and that made all the difference, along with the extra power. The 750 is a little more money, but works well for the money, and sounds good with the 12w6v3.
