Do you think your brother could repair a Rockford Fosgate 200iX? An ex girlfriend stuck a screwdriver into the vents and jammed it around. Rockford Fosgate refused to provide any help so it's just been a paperweight ever since. I sent it to one shop for repair and it came back with 1 non functioning channel and the other with a horrible static crackle that is substantially louder than the music played. I've never opened it to examine the depth of her destruction, so I don't know how severe it is apart from an electrolytic capacitor bouncing around after the destruction (thank goodness for her as well as myself it was not plugged into anything when she did so - it would have likely killed her and caused further damage to the amplifier). I'd love to have it back to life!

When we tested the Fosgate Power 650 it didn't make it's power rating. In my buddies vehicle we placed 1st or 2nd in Amateur Enhanced SPL in 1993 at the IASCA world finals in Tulsa. I don't really remember because that was not my focus. Amateur 0-100 watts was it. Martin Mohr had the 1992 world record at 131 db with two Punch 45s and I reset it at 146.7 db using two HiFonics Ulysses in 1993. Remember we had to play commercially available music and the mic wasn't able to be jammed into the loudest spot in the vehicle. If I could go back in time I would have wedged a 4X4 between the floor and roof of the van and picked up a couple of more db. The roof flexed like a mofo. The other van was in the HiFonics demo booth. We hit 153db with it, from the drivers seat. Everybody was there. Fukuda, PJs Autosound, Harry Kimura, you name it. Later on I would live a dream where when I saw Orion make a raft with a stereo on it an float down the salt river in Mesa. Decades later I went to Tempe to Orion HQ and I did go for a float down the salt river. I've done it multiple times and I will do it again. It's a trip worth making from Canada.

When one channel (or pair of channels) exhibits that lower power, it means the VI limiter is engaging prematurely. You can see the amp jogging back and forth on the current draw. It might be a leaky protection transistor or a bad cap in one of the protection circuits. Worth looking into as it will cause the amp to clip prematurely on certain loads.

I had one of these in my brand new 91 mustang GT. Another guy I knew had the MOSFET 300 and ran pro series woofers with it. I ran standard series 10s in what was called a voodoo box where two 10's shared a single air space opposed at either end of the ported box. My system destroyed his and my hatchback mustang. I should have been running pro series woofers with that amp. I ran two channels bridged at 325 w and the other two channels for my mid-base stereo. The standard series woofers would eventually damage themselves and start making noise. So I would just replace them periodically. But I got way more sound than the pro series. It took a lot more power to get the same decibels from the pro series speakers at that time.

Finally a dyno for the 650! Would you have another 650 that is still fully stock to do another dyno run without any of the upgrades done to it like the one in the video? You're most likely already aware, but the ratings up to around 1998 were rated power at 12v weren't they? With unregulated power supply, running 14+v would explain why these amps put out higher numbers. I see that T1000-4 arrived safely. I don't get why most people seem to think that a couple layers of thin bubble wrap alone will protect a 15-20 lbs amp, especially the point corners. There have been too many times I've received damaged, dented, ding'd up, broken amps that I had to send back. Every time that happens there is one less beauty in the world sadly. Sorry just ranting after I saw that nice T1000-4 at the end there

I would expect an amp factory rated at 0.5% and 0.1% THD respectively to produce more power when tested up to 1%THD or up to clipping. What would be interesting would be to test a modern amp ( Brazil or Korean ) factory rated at 1% THD to see what it would produce at the oldschool standards of 0.5% or 0.1% (some oldschool amps were even rated at lower %'s). Anyway's thanks as always for the great content!

Badass oldschool Rockford. Never knew that they were so underrated, but the efficiency at 4 ohm 😬🔌💥(my emoji selection doesnt have the big lightning bolt 😣 or the middle firnger either! 😡👎LG keyboard.) 2 ohm wasnt that much higher than thr 4 ohm compared to the increase in power, which suprised me. MORE OLDSCHOOL! For sure. Im a Kicker man personally, current set up is 4 CVR's, 2x 6.5's,2x 6x9's, '01 Alpine 7873 headunit and 2x Power Acoustik RZR 2500's which my be the weakest link but their efficient! I havnt made a recent vid because i been hooking the stuff up. I pretry much just doubled my system. Only thing left is a cheap ass 200 amp alternator off ebay that i just ordered and wiring up my second battery. Everythings been strickly budget based. Subs are used silver gen models, 2x were free and 2x cheap local off of marketplace. Alpine- $25, anothet marketplace steal. Amps- 50 for the first one and just got the second one for 60. Practically new too. Guy only had it a month and used it for a whole week before upgrading. The electrical is costing me though. Cant find used high-out alts or have i ever came across someone selling 25ft of used 1\0 power cable (most expensive single purchase of the whole system except for the Alt i just ordered is freaking $80 for POWER WIRE!). Oh shit i been rambling on. Hell i would have done a rough draft if id known i was gonna spend 20min writing a damn book. Should have just said " 👍 Keep up the good work" but then again who the hell is gonna still be reading this long ass comment anyway. 😝 and for those who do, here is thr funnist emoji combos i can think of...🐑RA🐓+🍭!..... 👉👌👉👌👉👌👉👌❗🙉🙉🙉💩💩💩✌

depends on where the amp is mounted. it never bothered me much in a hatchback. i couldnt hear it at all if any music was going.

You mentioned the Terminator Hearse, which reminded me...do you remember David "Fishman" Rivera? Was known for putting fish tanks in his installs. I remember he did a Hearse, with a full size 19in old school tube tv center dash, and I think he used Phoenix Gold Cyclone rotating subs. Those were the good days.

The punch 150 was the one to have in mid 90s right before it changed design

The power supplies on these did not use MOSFETs believe it or not. They were NPN devices. It was an old design, non PWM, non-regulated self-resonant type converter. Only the output devices were FETs.

Wish I had kept it but gave it away years ago when I swapped to precision power art series amps. The power 650 & Kenwood 1021 are 2 I never should have gave away

@@wal That'd be awesome. Had mine on 2 old xtant (still have them) 10s, at 4 ohms, it was very clean sound. My friend (shop owner), did some surgery and added RCA inputs, failed after a year, took it back and it was gone. There was a HUGE Adcom amp he had on white, supposedly modified, and still has it I'm sure. Thanks for the big WISdom and content bro. ✌
