That is a very jazzy, snazzy performance of "Mumbles" with Russell Malone, Arethra Franklin, Clark Terry, along with Roy Haynes and Herbie Hancock, along with James Carter and Ron Carter. The scat style of singing was very much present. Many of the performers are gone, but their musical legacy is secure. The "Divas Live" television specials were annual specials on the VH1 (Video Hits1) cable network from 1998 through the early 2000s. This edition is from 2001. The VH1 cable network began as a more "mature" music video network in 1985 to sister network MTV, which began in 1981 and had been youth-oriented and played mostly videos during the 1980s, veering more into reality shows such as "The Real World" beginning in 1992 and, for awhile in the early 1990s, talk shows as well. VH1 is one of the cable networks that repackaged "Solid Gold" television episodes and aired them during the 1990s.
