I made 410whp on that turbo on E85.. it’s a good turbo, but if you ghetto rig everything and can’t afford new studs for your turbo then don’t make upgrades until you can afford the supporting mods it’s simple as that. Saying subarus are subarus is stupid and don’t blame it on human error

If you don’t have arp2000 minimum head studs on a Subaru you will lift the head for sure. Doesn’t matter the turbo. 17psi and lift. I stretched mine .022” but enough to push coolant

Quick tip on heat wrapping soak in water for30 to 45 mins then put it on. Itll shrink the wrap and stop it from releasing those little fibers in the air

If you guys had gotten a new oil drain tube, it woukdve been much easier to get the new turbo in. New oil drain hoses are soft and after dropping it onto the up pipe flange, you can just reach in from behind and attach it by hand.

When removing studs the double nut method works really good no heat just double nut the stud and off she comes just like a bolt fast and easy.

Dude why the hell wouldnt u just keep the 20g and keep it at lower boosts. Turbo lag won't be that much worse. And u have a turbo that can support more hp if later down u want to up the car. I had an 02 wrx and from 10k miles I was pushing 16psi on 93 all the way till I sold the car at 223k miles.

Staggered Horizons yea it was ok. Was pushing like 272awhp. But I beat the hell out of it and nothing ever blew. Went through 5 clutches cuz I never dropped it racing just rev released it. It was an 02 so trans where known to be weaker. But with thatncar you can push 400hp and not have to do internals. I would deffinatly keep the 20g. That's a nice setup. I'm looking for an 05 sti right now and will probably get the same exact turbo. I'm looking for 400awhp and wanna do lotta suspension stuff . Yea if ya get a chance u guys should do some pull and launch vids.

Only reason I'm favoring the sti is I have had a new 02 wrx and It was modded some and I beat the hell out of it and it still ran when I sold it at 223k miles. And I already know some about that platform. I know evos are a great platform as well and I heard they are pretty bulletproof. It's not out of the question ether I guess it will all depend on what the better deal will be

I have a 2011 sti stock turbo pushing 350 whp on 20lbs of boost with a conservative tune from my tuner. I have aem fuel pump, 1000 cc injectors, Invidia catted turbo back n1 exhaust system, Cobb cold air intake, turbo smart external waste gate and a iag air oil separator. I can upgrade to a bigger turbo but won’t even chance it without some internal work. I do most of the work myself but the precise work and part selection I use my tuners experience to help me. Better safe then sorry when dealing with a delicate expensive car. Best of luck

keep the turbo, add bigger fuel pump, injectors, FMIC + E85 fuel with a professional tune (not that Cobb access port garbage) and that car will safely run 400awhp. You won't have to build your block if you're pushing less then 23 lbs

I put a 20g in a 2003 wrx and a front mount at the same time. Best advice is your internals can't handle a 20g without preparation and it is one of the hardest bolt on swaps ever. Coolant and oil leak and all the rubber hoses need to be replaced

Totally common spot to crack. Totally ok. R35 turbos crack there all the time. Will not effect the turbo at all.

You don't need 7gs? He already has an aftermarket downpipe.. Upgrade the intercooler, 3" intake, and a tune... That turbo would be just fine. Helps working with a pro tuner and not using those garbage Cobb tunes, also. Swapped the oem ko4 in my speed with a bnrs4 by myself last week. New fuel injectors, walnut blasted the intake valves, 3 port ebcs, 3.5 bar map sensor, and a base map from Purple Drank. Car is running like a fucking top. The turbo is good for 500whp, yet my stock fueling is only good for ~380 whp. Turbo still works perfectly with a proper tune!

i did kind of the same shit with a different car : i end up to burn the bigger turbo (never goes as it should)and after riactivated the original td04 hl 20t burn that too. at end i bought a new original stock 20 t and the car never run so good like that.

Exhaust wrap is actually to keep the headers/exhaust system hot. All exhaust systems produce the most power when their hot. And unless your racing the car and need power all the time they are not necessary, just nice to have.

What does wrapping the up pipe do?

Keeping the heat within the exhaust. We just had extra exhaust wrap laying around so we decided to wrap some pieces. Unless you're racing your car and need the exhaust hot all the time, it's really not necessary. You can use exhaust wrap for different things, I took care of a temporary exhaust rattle before by wrapping a part. Thanks for Watching!

Did you prime the turbo or just fire it up? Anything smaller than a 20G on an EJ25 is too small. You can get a Walbro 255lph and some ID's for less than $1000. Get a used Intercooler and a quality tune from a reputable tuner. Another $2000 and you're there. If you half-ass it or skip a step be ready for a shortblock.

Why are we putting such a large turbo on a car with no other mods? Like forget the tune this motor wont like the rpm range that turbo wants to see. The only content on youtube is factory. Or those silly iag blocks.

So you poorly installed a turbo that flows roughly 30-35% more air at Identical psi levels than that stock VF, didn't perform any due diligence during or after install, it goes pop like any larger turbo swap from a factory turbo no matter the manufacturer and say "Subarus gonna be Subarus" This is why Subaru's EJ has become such a meme, the only mistake is people buying them, bolting on a laundry list of aftermarket parts, immediately "sends it" ...blows up "fucking Subarus"

seangeeb the ej is notoriously weak and as you probably know has problems with stock internals around the 400hp mark. If i could find a nice stockish EVO 9 to build (used to have an evo 8) i would. But I'm trying out my first ej here in a few weeks. My supra pushes over 400 easy with most stock internals, but i upgraded them anyways to be safe. Subaru needs to get a better block than the 20 year old EJ they seem attached to.
