Why does the title say "CD collection?" This is a story about vinyl record albums. Great film!

must be them hard to get over sized cds back then

@Autumn Daniel Exactly. I can only imagine the uploader doesn't know what a CD is, which is crazy in itself.

I've done the maths... as of this video, given 43 minutes and 17 seconds for the average album duration, and 4 minutes for the average single. One would need to listen to every record sequentially without sleeping for 93.5 years to hear every record in its entirety.

Collections- and collectors- like this is a rare thing! Some of us still appreciate albums in their purest form. I just hope our kids will wake up from the digital "slumber" most of them are in at the moment..Archives like Paul´s are priceless, and they need to be looked after for posterity.
@flybeep16616 жыл бұрын
"digital "slumber" is that what you call it? Sorry to break it for you but that will never happen. Most people aren't collectors and they just care about listening to music. Where music comes from doesn't matter as long as it is easily accessible and convenient and digital checks all the boxes. There really is no good reason to buy physical media for the average joe. It won't go away completely but it will still diminish until it's a small niche business much like vinyl records are today. Add to that most of the new generation of young people and those coming after are or will be totally unfamilliar with physical media and having no reason to switch to physical media this thing you call "slumber" really isn't a slumber at all. There really is nothing to wake up to.

WOW, very touching. man it`s so true what he says about people ears being shut, The largest and most complete music collection I`ve seen Is owned by a friends father and It sits in the attic of the house, racks and racks of the worlds finest and most rare albums... My friend only likes Rap and stupid reggeton ...so sad.

The title says these are CDs, but they're vinyls. What gives?
@skeletons66611 жыл бұрын
If the vinyl avarage running time is 30 minutes, and there is 3 million vinyls in collection, it would take over 171 years to listen to them all, only once and without sleeping.
Record-Rama was truly a destination. I went there many times but this place got my cd collection started as I switched out my cassettes. Prices were not cheap but they had many, many hard to find titles. I miss Record-Rama.

Chopping off the highs and lows is required to keep a stylus in the grooves without vilolent jumps. Records require it as a physical medium.

SACD is the best format for music. Vinyl, if you have a really expensive stereo system, is up there too.
@motaboat51875 жыл бұрын
Nevermind vinyl records, people these days don't even give a damn about cds. People just listen to whatever they want at home or in the car on their phone. Nobody goes and listens to a full album of an artist anymore.

Its spelled Vinyls and I wish I could make this guy's day by buying this collection for twice as much as its worth. I pray to the good man upstairs that he finds the collector who will cherish these beautiful records and that he gets a ton of money in return for the effort that he put into it!

I'm a collector myself and it saddens me to see the state of things today; music stores are closing, younger people limit their music to sound files on a computer, and there is little appreciation for the physical format anymore. Despite that, I will continue to buy CDs and records and my collection will continue to grow. If only I could pony up the $3 million...I would so take that collection and preserve it in the same manner as he did. :)

Did this man sell his collection as of early 2012? I used to get a lot of my vinyl from a man named Jim Danas in Queens, NY. Another great collector, he was.

I totally understand his plight, and hope and pray that this becomes a museum of some sort. Wish I had $50 mil to pay him, merely for the trouble he has gone to. Wow.

@DanielBMS11 жыл бұрын
Well yes, but the point is that people have certain biases towards certain formats.
@JayAre55513 жыл бұрын
The government should buy it and make a museum/ archive of it. It doesn't seem so important now but in a couple of years it will be a treasure of unimaginable value. Otherwise all that recorded music will just be gone and that's just not acceptable.

I agree with him on most things, except the one about quality. Sure, 128kbps MP3 is very compressed and some songs can sound mushy and the instruments sound somewhat different, not to mention that some of the sounds altogether are lost, but that's what FLAC, ALAC and AAC were made to counter for. A 256kbps AAC file will give you almost the same quality as a CD, but the file is more than 10x smaller. FLAC files are exactly the same quality but manage to compress it to 60% of the original.

Hell, I'll buy it all. I would do anything just to see it, much less own something like this. This man gave his life to music, and look what happened he has to live the rest of his life in worry, and despair because no one wants it or is interested in it. If this guy isn't dead, I would like to go to his shop and fill the fucking cart full.

What a shame that he obviously has no adult children who'd take over the collection & love it as much as he does. If it was me, just for the love of the music, I would donate the entire collection for cataloguing in a major museum - as long as the collection remained intact.

Also, I hope that I win big on the lottery so I can find this man and give him $5 million for his outstanding collection.

This does belong in a museum. My brother-in-law has a collection of well over 1000 vinyl albums, and a good friend of his has a vinyl collection of around 10,000 albums. Many experts, including these guys, believe that vinyl sounds better than CDs, and I am not unconvinced. And forget MP3 and computer downloads, they are mostly junk if you have any ear for music. For myself I did switch to CDs about 25 years ago for space economy reasons. Plus the availability of classical music (which is my first love in music) on CDs was becoming amazing. Gave my collection of mostly classical vinyl records to my brother-in-law, who I knew would treat them right. Now I hear some of those albums when I go to visit.

Everyone has its own eccentricities. I am a collector too but only one artist and only cds. One collector has to know when it is too much or it is such a waste of 'life'. One has too include other people too. Not just objects. When its too much, its called greed. Because you can't bring them with you to heaven.

I bet maybe 1O of his albums are worth something, everything else would sell for .50 to 1.00 each at a garage sale. It is a shame vinyl and CDs are fading out quick with Spotify and digital downloads. To find a store other than Walmart that sells new and current CDs is almost impossible!!!
